The unit was engineered to allow the reel to be held further up the cradle keeping more of the rod handle out of the boat. There is a security ring at the end of the cradle which can be quickly engaged/disengaged.   11. I'm looking to put together a copper rod for Lake Ontario. For the fall salmon run i like to go there around Labor Day weekend. Can any one help? With what would be a good set? #30 or #45 and 300' set or 600' or some were in between the two for that time of year. A rod and reel Thanks Bill

  13. setting up mast and otters. I am going to use lead core what releases for lead or do i have to set up other rods with 3 or 4and 6 color. any new techniques for the otters. trolling the shore line for rainbow and browns thanks Bill
