with all the talk of reduced blowback does any one just use a rubber band release. I get it with all the stuff you need to get the bait down and less is better to reduce blow back. Sure the set up has to be softer with a rubber band or your resetting for false releases, but I was just thinking about it, pretty cheap and no drag....thoughts
chicory & clover, mow it twice a year and it will last for many years, good all year plot to keep them around, low cost. However just like painting the prep work is the most important, get a PH test of your soil for sure
for browns and eyes I use a quality barrel swivel, 6' or so of floro leader then just a quality small snap. This way less drag to the lure = better action.
A friend of mine works at Cabela's in the archery dept. By far the ten pt is the best but also the most pricy. One thing he pointed out to me is a crank to bring the string back. He said it is possible with all hand pull bows to get the string not set in the same place every time with a hand pull to set it, whereas the crank pull back sets the sting in the exact place every time. Con adds weight, pro would allow you to get a second shot with out a lot of movement and much easier to set, only 5# needed to crank it back
I had a 23' fiberglass with a 15hp, worked great especially when the conditions weren't perfect and you need more thrust. My boat weighed 4K empty. I think the 8 would not deliver in a head wind
For what its worth, way back at the top of this post I mentioned 41 new calls came in on opening day of Xbow. I cleared 11 of the calls, not tracking just qualifying them to see if tracking may a doable option. Of the 11 calls 9 were with a cross bow.
In my opinion, and this I believe proofs it, a NYS class is needed on cross bows
From reading the above posts and recovering deer for poor placed shots, I believe the problem with crossbows is the lack of practice and knowing what the tool will or WILL NOT do. A bow of any kind is not designed to shoot at moving targets let alone running. After interviewing the hunters with the poor placed shots I am finding "lack of practice" and shooting at moving targets with a bow and arrow device as the biggest problems. Sure they are fast for a arrow but very very slow if its a running target.
Very disappointed with opening day of crossbow. We usually see a few calls weekdays and 8 or so on weekends, opening of crossbow we had 41 calls come it. It looks like crossbow hunters think they have a gun in their hands, very sad
