  3. My experience with either fiberglass or aluminum is the same, in order to avoid fouling you need to paint it, wax slows it down but does not prevent it.
  4. 9.9 is plenty of hp, you could go down as far as a 6hp comfortably.
  5. If you want to open the wallet, there is a 30 ft Pursuit, a 2000 as I recall on a trailer on Craigslist Detroit.
  6. Dunkirk was to be converted to natural gas-there is a lawsuit holding it up brought to court by another supplier. In the meantime the plant is being mothballed, and you know the longer it is off service the less likely it will ever get converted. Huge impact to the tax base.

  8. All of them are heading towards closing, Dunkirk, Tonawanda, and Oswego. Dunkirk Harbor was frozen this year for the first time in 70 years.
  9. Not that much ice anyway this winter, they have started the removal process today 3/8/16.
  10. That hull started being built in the late 1970s-don't know the last year it was made but I have a hard time believing that they weren't all wood stringer boats.

As a fellow WNY'er, if I were looking I would call the dealers around that deal in that type of boat, Anchor Marine, Brobeil, Bow and Stern, Olson Bros, Silver Lake, Navigation Company in PA and now the local Cabelas, especially with boat show season upon us. There was a good one at Silver Lake that is now gone. These are all other suggestions if the Alumacraft on here doesn't interest you.

  13. 20 will work fine, if you are buying new and it is available 25 is better-the extra 5 inches keeps it deeper in the water and avoids cavitation in rough water.

  15. The 15 inch would likely work fine, if you are making the investment on a kicker, spend the extra money and get the 20 inch. When it gets wave action, the lower unit is deeper into the water. I have had a couple Starcrafts and now a Sea Nymph so I have had experience.
  16. You pay the money and you take your chance. I have had a table at all of the LOTSA events. LOTSA can't control who has equipment for sale and wants to buy a table. Some of the regulars moved to the main room, some of the regulars who had tables in the past have retired from being captains and some chose not to come. The main room was full and this is a show that is geared to fishing. Was I disappointed this year? Yes I was but again, can't control vendors or customers. And I have been involved in setting up similar events in the past for clubs I belong to. Look forward to next year and will evaluate things then. This event was heavily advertised on Buffalo radio and part of those ads mentioned the LOTSA marketplace. Mark

  19. It is likely that you have a seal issue. In another couple days, the oil and water will further separate. These motors should have the props pulled to see if there is fishing line that damaged the outer seal. Also they need to be pressure tested to make sure that you don't have bad gaskets on the two screws and to define that there is a seal issue. Significant water would have gushed when the bottom screw was pulled, if the boat has been sitting for a while since it was last used.
  20. That is correct, water constantly is in the well in any type of wave- that was the area which upon investigation found there was a problem. You can always drill a small hole or two on the inside, enough to get the aluminum clear and see what you have. If it is bad it will be very brittle and look and feel like a waffle material.
  21. I have a 1986 Sea Nymph 19, I had the transom replaced three years ago because it needed it quite badly. The problem with the Sea Nymph is it is not easy to inspect the wood in the transom because there is no easy access to it. Knocking on it, particularly on the inner side of the transom was one way I determined there was a problem which was confirmed by taking off the old motor(I was switching motors at the time) and inspecting one of the bolt holes. My boat prior to my ownership also spent several years out in the weather. A boat stored inside most of the time is going to delay the weathering/aging process.   23. I believe that toward the end of the run(mid 90's) the GLS and other Sea Nymphs got the aluminum floor. The last years of the Sylvan which was the 2300, I don't know about(2003 was last year) The other years had wood floor. Crestliner was either 2003 or 2004. Islander was recent, thinking 2010 or 2011.
  24. Saw him last Saturday in Niagara Falls. He was ill in 2002 and his voice has never recovered, still he is a legend and he will be celebrating turning 77 next week. He was also up in Whitefish Falls, Wisconsin on Tuesday to meet with family members of the Fitzgerald crew.
