Finally connected with a buck yesterday morning. Although he isn't the biggest buck, there were several factors that lead to me deciding to take the shot. I took Monday and Tuesday off from work to hunt, and i told my oldest son (7 years old) that if i happened to kill a buck in the morning either of those days, i would pull him out of school to help track it. Between that, limited time to hunt the rest of bow season, and the fact that i had my new Tactacam Solo camera on my bow, i decided i was going to let an arrow fly. I was sitting along the edge of a corn field that was partially chopped the day before by my father-in-law. At about 7:30, he came wandering through along the edge of the corn field. I quickly turned my Tactacam on as i saw him approaching, and drew back as he crossed behind some pine branches. I stopped him broadside at 12 yards and made a good shot on him. He turned 90° and ran down through the corn field about 50 yards before staggering and falling over. After that i kept my promise and got my oldest son out of school and him and my 4 year old helped me "track" it. Their excitement and reaction after finding the buck just reaffirmed my decision to take him was the right one! As others have said on here, not my biggest bow buck, but one of the most memorable ones. The tactacam video turned out awesome, but the file is too large to load.

Looking for places within 30-45 minutes of Corning, NY that will winterize a boat (Tracker Targa V-18). We have a place to store it for the winter, but would like someone to winterize it and go over whatever the standard post-season checklist is. Thanks! Sean

Sat last night for a few hours to try to fill a few nuisance permit for my in-laws farm. I didn't get anything, but it was an exciting hunt anyways! I saw a flock of about 16 turkeys, had three fawns bed down in front of me at different times, and then had this piebald buck come strolling through with another small buck. I took a couple of great videos of him, and even have him sparring with the other buck for a few seconds, but i'm not sure how to upload videos, so this screenshot will have to do! It was a very cool experience, first time i've seen one from the stand, and he walked by at 20 yards.

I am looking to purchase a new crossbow, but there are so many options out there now that i'm not sure what to get. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good, quiet crossbow under $750? Thanks, Sean

Did a morning jigging trip out of Dean's yesterday with my dad and brother. Launched at 5:30am, and had the first laker in the boat by 5:45am. Thought it was going to be good bite, but it turned out to be a bit slow with some decent wind at times which made it tough to stay where we wanted to. We did manage 5 lakers and two bows in the 4 hours that we were there. Best fish of the day was my 32" laker, that was a fun fight!

I saw a report last week from a charter that an algae bloom was starting to happen on Cayuga. Just wondering if anyone has a recent report out of Dean's Cove that could say whether the algae bloom is still happening, or how good/bad it is? Thanks!! Sean

Sold / Closed 1oz Jigheads (Finger Lakes jiggers!)
Guppy35 replied to Copperliner's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
Hi Mike, Do you happen to have any more 1oz or 3/4oz jig heads for sale? I would love to buy some from you if you've got any more available! Thanks, Sean -
Try posting in the "Bass Fishing" thread....on the homepage under "Warm Water Fishery". Most of the posts in the "Finger Lakes" thread are trout/salmon related. I would guess with the hot temps we've been having lately that the bass have probably moved into slightly deeper water to avoid the sunlight and warmer water. Try throwing deep diving lures over 15-20 fow or jigs. If you are fishing in shallower, throw under docks, lily pads, or anything else that might provide shade for the fish.

Looking at your arrow and a slightly quartering away shot, i would say you hit just behind the shoulder with the entry, and hit the opposite shoulder blade (and as he took off he broke the arrow off with his shoulder on the entry side). Looks like you got lung, and even better the arrow was still in there doing damage. I agree that he's dead, but take your time!

Thanks for the replies. I guess my thinking was that you would feel a laker doing it's typical headshake, but i hadn't thought about the fact that it could have been foul hooked. We will never know, but that is one of the things i love about the finger lakes is that there is always that mystery! Can't wait to get back out there.
