  1. This may be stupid question, but i've never really done much stream fishing and never used egg sacs as bait. What i'm wondering is what is the best way to put the egg sac on your hook/line? Sean
  2. tbromund -- Thanks for the sketch that makes me feel much better! So as long as i let the line out slowly and make sure it doesn't tangle with the downrigger lines i should be fine.
  3. Yes i do have the charts that came with them and that was the setting i usually run them at, but even when i let the line out slowly and let it run for a few minutes it doesn't get out away from the boat very far. I had them 180 and 210 ft out yesterday.
  4. Which setting on the dipsys will get them out away from the sides of the boat farther? I've tried a few different settings and i can't seem to get them out away from the boat at all. I'm not sure if i'm doing something wrong or if they just don't go out away from the boat as far as i thought they would. I have 30 lb 7 strand wire on them too. Sean
  5. I've never used them, but i've heard some people say they like them and others say they'd rather use the twili-tips. I just put a few twili tips on my dipsys and will be trying them out this afternoon.
  6. I used to go trolling on Keuka and Seneca with my family when i was younger, and i remember a 5 fish day being a GREAT day! Even catching one fish was well worth going out. Then i found this forum and got so much advice from everyone and with a few equipment upgrades and some new knowledge and techniques (all thanks to this site) i have had several days with 10+ fish and a few in the 30+ range. Thank you all for the info that is posted here every day and the quick replies to specific questions It has made for some very enjoyable days on the lake in the last few years!!
  7. Lakebound88 -- Thank you for the advice, will give it a try next time i get out! My leaders are about the same length from flasher to fly, maybe 21-22 inches.
  8. Just wondering if any of you guys use flasher and flies on Keuka? I have fished both Keuka and Seneca using flasher/fly combos over the last couple of years and have never had much luck at all on Keuka with them. Come to think of it my success with them on Seneca isn't too great either. Any idea what i might be doing wrong? I usually use them on my dipsy rods which i used to wrong with mono line but just switched it over to 7 strand wire a few days ago (haven't had a chance to try them yet). Maybe running them on mono has something to do with my limited success? Thanks Sean
  9. Is there a preference whether you run the slider on the top rod or the bottom rod? So lets say you have a stacked downrigger with a slider on the top rod, if you get a release from the bottom rod and have a fish on should you have someone else release and reel up the top line to avoid tangling the two lines?
  10. Awesome, thanks for the link! Very helpful. Sean
  11. K GoneFishin -- Do you use the LOTSA knot to connect the wire line to a swivel? I tried looking it up but i couldn't find a description of it anywhere...just got my wire line in the mail yesterday so i'm trying to get it set up for this weekend.
  12. Thanks for all the info guys, will let you know how we do this weekend!
  13. My brother and i are thinking about making a trip to Seneca this weekend to do some trolling. The only problem is i haven't been on Seneca since early spring, and don't normally get out this time of the year. With that being said, i don't really know where to start this weekend so i'm looking for some advice. I will be running 2 downriggers with a stacker on each, and 2 wire dipsy's (first trip with wire). Can anybody give me some tips to get me started? Anything would be helpful; lures, speed, location....we will be coming from Corning and usually launch either in Watkins or at Severne. Please feel free to PM me if you'd rather. Thank you in advance for all the help!! Sean
  14. I fish Seneca and Keuka quite a bit and have also had a lot of problems keeping my dipsy divers away from the boat and riggers, so i have kind of given up on using them lately. After reading this post i'm thinking maybe i need to switch from mono to wire as well. Would this help keep the dipsy's out away from the boat? Also, if i switch to wire (30#?) would you recommend getting the twili tip wire line guides as well?
  15. Thanks for all the info!
  16. I'm looking to expand my bass fishing to a few more lakes rather than my usual Keuka, Lamoka, and Waneta trips. I have never been on Honeoye or Conesus, but i've heard some good reports from both. Can anybody give me some information as to where on these two lakes would be a good place to start for bass and maybe pike as well? I will be coming from Bath/Corning area. Thank You! Sean
  17. Thanks for the link! I rarely fish tournaments so i know the feeling when you get on the water only to realize there is a tournament going on. Just got a new boat this year though, 1998 Bass Tracker so i thought maybe i'd try a tourney or two this year.
  18. Anybody know of any bass tournaments coming up (other than this weekend)? Preferably on Keuka or Lamoka/Waneta? Thanks, Sean
  19. Well put BSMaster
  20. I have to agree with BSMaster, i prefer a size 2 hook with a larger worm for largemouth.
  21. I've never tried hooking a senko worm wacky style, always gone with the texas rig (mostly so i can pull it across the weed beds). Do you think wacky style has a better presentation to bass or is it mostly just personal preference? Can you fish weed beds with it wacky style or do you get snags a lot? Thanks
  22. Sounds like weightless softbaits are the go-to for most of us! Of course any action on a top water lure can be a blast as well.
  23. Kremer, Do you use a jig head with the tubes? If so, what size do you like to use?
  24. Going to be launching in Hammondsport bright and early tomorrow morning to do some trolling. I haven't been out in several weeks and i was just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction on where to troll and at what depths. Thanks in advance for any information!!! Sean
  25. I'm going to be trolling on Keuka tomorrow morning, do you think it would be beneficial to troll shallow across the end of the lake? (I'll be launching in Hammondsport). Thanks, Sean
