Launched at Taughannock at 5:00 a.m. yesterday morning so we could get our fishing in before the lake got too crazy for Independence Day. Ran up the West side of the lake a ways and started jigging in about 70-80 fow. Managed one small rainbow early on, but then not even a hit for over an hour. Decided to run across the lake near the Power Plant, but the wind had picked up and we had a tough time staying vertical with our jigs. Had a few short hits but that was hit. Decided to head back towards the launch, and on the way back the wind died down a little so we hit up one more area right near the launch. Did two drifts, and the switch feeding switch turned on for a short time. Managed 4 lakers, all within 15 minutes of each other (including a double), and dropped a few others. Biggest of the day was a 29" laker with a 17" girth. We didn't have a scale on the boat, but I'd say he had to be close to 11-12 lbs. Depth was 75-85 fow, caught on white paddletails and tubes. We were off the water at 10:00, just as the jet skis and pleasure boaters were starting to show up.

I hadn't thought about the algae bloom, that is a good point. I wouldn't be surprised with the heat we've been having if that shows up at any point. I actually have been following John's reports for years, and just finished reading his reports from the past few days. I will post a report if we get out tomorrow.

Has anybody been out jigging on Cayuga in the past week or so? Just wondering how the jigging has been, thinking about getting out July 4th early in the morning before there is too much boat activity. We did well the last time we were out, but that was about a month ago, and i know the lake has been changing a lot since then. Not looking for anything too specific, just general reports if anybody has been out. Thanks!!

I'm selling my Econoburn EBW-200 wood boiler. Bought brand new in 2015 (MSRP $9,000), installed in January of 2018. So it's been used for 1 1/2 heating seasons. Nothing wrong with the boiler, and is in really good condition. Just decided to go with an outdoor model to open up my shed for wood storage. This boiler is listed as 200,000 BTU, and i was heating 5,000 sq ft. with it. I wasn't in a big hurry to sell it, but unfortunately due to some recent & ongoing medical issues for my wife, i kind of need the money from this boiler to buy my new outdoor boiler. I know i'm most likely going to take a big loss on it, but i don't have much of a choice at this point. I also have two 500 gal. propane tanks that have been cleaned and re-purposed as thermal storage tanks, all the copper, fittings, pumps, chimney, expansion tanks needed for a complete setup. Econoburn Boiler - $6,500 Boiler + Thermal Tanks, etc. - $8,500 If interested, please feel free to comment, PM me, or text or call (607-329-3511) for more information. -
Well we ended up launching at Dean's this morning and got on the water about 5:45. Checked out a few areas on the west side near the launch, but didn't mark many fish or bait fish so we headed across the lake around 6:15. Ended up landing 18 Lakers between the four of us, between Wells college and Long Point. All fish were in shallow, 25-55 fow, with the majority of them being caught in 25 fow on 3/4 Oz jigs with white paddletails and white & red tubes. Most fish were fin clipped, and they ranged from 22" - 29". It was a great morning to be out on the water, and I appreciate everyone that replied to this thread or PMed me to get us heading in the right direction!

Planning on heading to Cayuga tomorrow morning to do some jigging for lakers. Only got out a handful of times last year (August time frame) and launched at Taughannock Falls. I've never launched from anywhere else on Cayuga, so i was curious about Dean's? Is this a public launch? We have a 21' Tracker Targa. Also, i know this time of year can be a little more difficult because the fish are spread out so much, but is there a general depth range we should try to target to get started? Please feel free to PM me if you'd rather. Thanks! Sean

Irg355 - Thanks, I actually plan on fishing North Sandy pond, i most likely won't be going out on the lake at all. Do you know if the water level in North Sandy pond is significantly higher than normal where it might make it tough to fish?

Does anybody go through North Sandy Pond to get to the lake? Making my annual trip to Sandy Pond for bass/pike fishing the weekend of June 1st, but just want to make sure it's actually fishable and not completely blown out before we make the 3 hr trip. Thanks, Sean

I've got a 1989 Evinrude 110hp motor that the trim/Tilt Motor no longer works on. I took the case off the current trim/Tilt Motor and cleaned all the components the best I could and re-installed them, but it still didn't work. I can hear a click when I push the up or down button, but nothing else happens. I ordered a new motor, but now I've gotten myself into a predicament. The way everything is located on the Evinrude, the only easy way to replace the whole trim/Tilt Motor is to lift the whole motor up off the transom to get to one of the screws on the back side. Of course this is no easy task because it appears that I would have to remove the gas tank from the boat in order to gain access to the bottom two bolts through the transom. The other possibility is to take the cover off the new trim/Tilt Motor and take it apart... I think I may be able to access the back screw that way. But do I really want to break the seal on a brand new motor, or am I just asking for trouble doing that? Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I have a 14' aluminum boat w/ trailer and 5HP Johnson motor that i boat about 6 years ago to use as a duck blind. I pulled the motor and used it for trolling on the finger lakes with a different boat. Used the 14' boat one time duck hunting, and used the motor for two seasons of trolling - mostly on Keuka, and since then we now have three kids 5 & under with a 4th on the way (so not much time on the water lately and can't justify hanging onto it all). Last time i used the boat was about 5 years ago, but i never had any issues with leaks...bottom was always bone dry. The motor hasn't been started in a few years, but last time i used that it would start on the 1st or 2nd pull and ran beautifully for trolling speeds. I did have some issues with it stalling out when i tried running it wide open (not being even close to a mechanic i decided to just leave it alone and use it for trolling and it continued to work great for that). Could be something simple, but i didn't want to mess with it. I just bought a bunch of equipment for hunting dogs (electronic caller, scope mounted red light, head lamp red light, and a sit n spin decoy). Hoping to get out a handful of times this winter when everything arrives, but it will be my first time doing it. Any tips for a beginner? How long do you do a calling sequence for? How far away should you put the decoy? What does your favorite setup look like? If you have any good online articles, i would be more than happy to spend some time reading up on it! Thanks.
