Fish out of the state park at 1st light this morning. Was using 2 copper rigs(new to me) and a rigger set at 40 feet and was wondering where the fish were when all 3 went at the same time! At 1st I thought I snagged something or one fish crossed the other lines. Nope! 3 lakers. Ended up 11 for 11 before the wind made driving just too tough for me. (About 10am) Was using a orange/silver NK 28 on the rigger and stingray NBK on one of the coppers but the hot lure was NKmag watermellon trolled at 1.7mpg. I think the coppers are down about 50 feet. The rods have about 240feet of copper on 'em. Day wasn't a total lost. Got a call from my housemate. Said my Moor sub-troll 900 had just arrived. All installed and ready for the water! Happy Easter and good luck fishing everyone!

Hugh's 3/17-3/18
zern replied to zern's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Hi ya Tom We changed lures constantly however the 2 colors that always stayed out both Saturday and Sunday was black and silver and blue and white Rapala's. But I saw fish taken on firetiger, orange bomber, Frog spoon, lemon ice spoon. For speed we kept it at 2.5mph and we always keep a spare pole handy with a lure on it to check how the lures look. Hope that helps -

Hi all! I am thinking getting a Moor's for my small boat. Because I use the boat for other types of fishing, I need to remove the downriggers from the boat. Is it possiable, with the attenana attached to the downrigger, to remove the rigger from the boat? Thank you Zern/Mark

Canandaigua Lake State Marine Park closing after Labor day
zern replied to FLXTroutman's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
I just used those docks yesterday. I see the equipment all ready to start work. I talked to other boaters and no one seams to understand why the change or justfy the money spent. Aside from a bit of maintance are a solid platform to launch from. -
Thanks to the report from Iron Duke, I set out solo from the Northend. Set down at the drop off headed into a light south wind. Had my 1st fish, a nice 5lb rainbow before I had a chance to sit down. She came on an NK28 blue and silver as did the next fish, a 3lb laker. Both down 60 feet on the riggers. While digging in the tackle box for more blue spoons, other rigger fired on a yellow NK with a black ladder back. Boated a small laker (maybe a 1lb, I shucked it off at the boat). Reset and took another laker (5.5lbs) on that same lure in just a few minutes. Then at 7:30am, everything stopped for me. I continued to wash lures till 11am but could not buy a bite. Increase in boat traffic? sun angle? Maybe I need to hide my face. Not sure what shut them off but I am not complaining. Was a nice morning to be on the lake!! Thanks again to Iron Dukes thurday report, I knew where to start looking! Zern S.S. Buckshot

If the bill sits on his desk for 10 days. it becomes law. It should be close ta that now. -
Needed to restock the freezer with perch and sunnies so grabbed the older brother and hit up Canandiagua at the north end. Started on the west side near Butler park and was hardly hitting anything so we tried the bouys on the east side. Ended up with 32 big sunnies,9 rockies, 5 perch. Only 1 massive smallmouth. Would have caught alot more but my brother only bought a dozen worms. What a blast on 4lb test and ultralite rod! Perch of course were all spawned out but the sunnies and the rockies still had eggs. Lake temp was 68. Winds were calm. Hardly saw the sun. Boat launch was fine. Water lvl is down. Mark S.S.Buckshot

WOW! IF I get half as lucky tomarrow out of Hugh's, I will have gaint smile too! Way ta go Nick!! Great blog going too!! Zern/Mark -
Ok, I will take a shot at this. How does your Dad explain upwelling? Your trolling north in a south wind. Wind speed is 10mph. Surface temp is 70. Your riggers are down 80 feet in 150 feet of water. Temp at 75 feet is 55. Your surface speed is 2.5mph Now the warm water is pushing north along with you. (The warm water hits the canadian shore and pushes downward) But at 80 feet and below, the colder water is moving south at 1mph to replace the warm water. (at the beach, the temp is 55) So what are you lures doing at 80 feet? I would think they are spinning too fast. I have noticed this by watching my cables when I change direction. And what about when your headed south WITH the surface current? I am not sure where water density comes into play. Maybe this isn't a good example but best I can think of for under water currents. Welcome back, Nick! Mark Buckshot -
Hey woody Yeah the fishfinder was blank. (oh once in a great while I would see a hook or bait fish) Leaving me to beleave all the fish were very near the surface. About 3 times I saw rings on the water where fish had surface. So I knew they were there. I guess I should have stated that I was using planer boards. Wasn't till later that I used a rigger while expermenting. The King was small. 5lbs.
