Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):July 26-28 Time on Water:5am-2pm Weather/Temp:sunny Wind Speed/Direction:light/moderate Waves: 2-5ft Surface Temp: 74 Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 10 Total Boated:8 Species Breakdown:small kings/big lakers Hot Lure: flasher/fly and cowbells/spin-n-glow Trolling Speed: 1.8 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 150-250 Lure Depth: 110-150 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Caught small kings the first day. Second day my 10 yr old nephew landed a 13.5lb lake trout. Only 29 inches long but well over 20 inches around. Older nephew boated 8.5 lb last day out. All in all, slow but kids got to catch biggest fish ever so they were happy. Weather made for a nice camping/fishing vacation. Bob ====================
  4. Try 18-24 inches from end of flasher to head of fly for leaders. don't know area so can't help with store locations. Bob
  5. If I'm running a 600' copper and 10 color lead core off the same side, which one goes inside/outside? Thanks for the help. Bob
  6. Brian, atommiktrollingflies.com or siggsrigs.com or bigweenie.com probably all you'll need Bob
  7. Thanks Dave. I'll be up from July 24th to the 30th with my brother and nephews. Don't want to trailer the boat any farther than I have to. Usually get a slip for the week at the pond and head out through the cut. Thanks again for the info. Bob
  8. Does anyone know if/when the inlet is going to be open? I was up in early May and the water was too shallow to enter the main lake from there. Heard it was going to be dredged but haven't been back in a while. Any info would be great. Thanks. Bob
  9. I second what Badhabit says. The guy just outside of port ontario did a great job on my canvas. His name is Ernie Mims. His number is 315-298-4393 and cell is 315-727-6845. He's a retired State Trooper. He supplied everything on my boat as there was no top when I bought my boat. poles, screws, canvas, windows, etc. Great to deal with and very quick turn around. Bob
  10. Gotta Bite: We usually come up for a week the first of May every year. The fishing and weather are usually pretty cooperative. EARLY mornings are the best. Fish until about 10:30 and relax at camp after that. Evenings can be good for walleyes too at this time of year. Fish stickbaits off boards and spoons off riggers and you'll catch them. Bob
  11. I bought two last year and they are worth the money. Little blowback and they catch fish!
  12. Just wanted to say thank you to everyone on this site for a great year. I pulled my boat for the season this past weekend. Because of this site I continue to learn new techniques, meet great people and enjoy the wonderful lake fishing that is found on Lake Ontario. This year was my most successful in terms of numbers of fish caught and different species and sizes. That credit can be given to everyone on here that I've used your tips to figure out what the fish wanted and how to do it. Thank you LOU and it's members!!! Bob Pugh
  13. Lavarock: Okuma makes a left hand reel for trolling purposes, too. I have both the cabela's gold (2) and okuma's(4) on my boat. Okuma left hand a little harder to find. I have the same problem since bass fishing with spinning tackle since I was four. Look around at different websites. Good luck. Bob
  14. Gotta Bite: We fished from 110-130 fow all three days(as did a lot of boats, in the morning anyway, afternoons lucky if we saw 5 boats each day). I caught one fish on a downrigger at 80 feet. The rest were caught on downriggers betwee 95-105. As for the dipseys, I tried everything from 180-315 on a 2 or 3 and only got one fish. We pulled one dipsey and fished a 450 ft copper with a #3 jplug which took two hits at approx. 100 ft. I would try and target the 95 to 105 lure depth. Hope this helps. Bob
  15. Fished Friday night(8/21) for a couple hours. 2/3 both kings, healthy and fat. 23 lb and 18 lb. My friend is a first timer and he reeled in the 23. On the ride to the lake he was hoping for a 5 lb brown. His eyes about bugged out of his head when he saw the king hit the deck. It was great. Saturday morning(8/22)- Slow morning for us. Went 2/3 all kings. Again, very healthy and fat. 24 and 18 lbs. One on green flasher/blue aqua fly, the other on a #silver j-plug off 450 copper. Saturday night(8/22)- Went 2/3, landed a 22 lb king and a 15 inch brown with beautiful colors. If he was 10 lbs bigger he'd be on the wall. Tossed him back to catch in 2013. The fish we lost hurt bad, he took out 600+ ft of line and was on for 15 minutes and the spoon pulled. Sunday morning(8/23)- Went 1/2, landed a 17 lb king off a spoon and missed one on another spoon. Only had him on for about 15 seconds and gone. Only two hits of the day. Be back up 9/2-9/6. Hopefully, things will pick up in terms of numbers. Bob
  16. My friend and I were out this weekend and he caught and subsequently weighed/measured his first king salmon about eighteen times. 36 inches long= 23 lbs. Seems everyone is pretty close to right on. Bob
  17. You must change the braided line every 3 to 4 seasons as the "rope" qualities start to fray and cause friction on the reel itself. That's one other advantage of wire. One time on and you're done!
  18. I use Pro-Cure gel in the spring for browns and it works great. Tried using smelly jelly and Pro-Cure for salmon but haven't noticed any increase in catch like I did for the browns. Not a very scientific test but just what I've noticed. Bob
  19. I start my day with flasher/fly at 10-15' and spoons at 10' and lengthen to 50' to find where they want it. This past weekend left everything at 15' and just fished. Bob
  20. Your poles and line sound adequate enough. You state you want some starter stuff. If you go to Pulaski, go to Fat Nancy's or AllSeasons. They have flashers, flies and spoons to get you started. You can also get things on the internet @ GLOutdoors.com or atommiktrollingflies.com This should get you started. Good luck. Bob
  21. Fished last weekend out of Sany Pond. Ran out towards the shipping lanes and started to troll at 220 fow out to 315 fow on Saturday. Caught 5 kings, 1 laker and 1 brown. Mostly a spoon bite but had a few hits on white flasher/blue-green fly. My friend's 12 y/o son caught his first (20lb) and 2nd (14 lb) kings. It made the trip. His father also caught his first king (22lb) and first laker (5lb). Made for an enjoyable trip to watch two newbies have a ball on the boat. Bob
  22. I fished out of Sandy Pond over the weekend. Lots of boats in the 100-140 ft range for the Little Salmon River tournament. I fished way out in the Shipping Lanes and did well on kings. 220 to 270 fow. Fish were caught from 100-140 down. Hope this helps. Bob
  23. When running say a 300' copper and a j-plug, do you guys run the plug by itself or do you use a dodger with it? Thanks. Bob
  24. Things are still very scattered. Only went up to bring my boat for a new canvas top and drop down. Decided to fish since we drove four hours, might as well make a weekend out of it. We caught the brown in 160 ft of water. That was a surprise. I think with a couple of weeks of warm stable weather the fishing should greatly improve. Bob
  25. 6/20 and 6/21 Launched out of Sandy Pond Saturday morning and ran out to 130 feet to try steelhead action. Hooked into first fish at 160 fow down 40 on a green flasher and blue fly. 7lb brown. Drifted all the way out to 220 fow. Caught fish at 180 and 210. A coho on a green/silver spoon and a steelhead on a blue/silver spoon. Both about 6 lbs. Sunday launched at 5 am and set up in 160 ft of water and drifted out to 250 ft. Only fish we caught was a 17 inch king on a blue/siver spoon. Not big enough to trip the release. Found him when changing lures. Must not have been there long, still alive and feisty when we brought him to the boat. Tried running in to less than 80 ft and hooked a fish ? on a blue/silver spoon but lost it after 10 seconds. Nice weekend to be on the water. Bob
