Hey ryanrobb.....Thanks....yes it is a lot of "work" salmon trolling solo....but it can be a lot of fun . I just try to keep a clear head, and "work" at a slower pace , while rigging rods, and setting out the lines on the dipsey's ,riggers, boards, changing lures etc.. The hardest parts are keeping the boat on course while fighting fish(no auto pilot), and the "moment of truth" as you try and get those big ones into the net. Timing is key for One hand netting of salmon! -
Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):sat 8/25 Time on Water:4 hours Weather/Temp:warm/calm Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: 0 Surface Temp: 75 ish Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 5 Total Boated:3 Species Breakdown:Salmon Hot Lure: flsher/fly Trolling Speed: Down Speed: 2.0....2.6 Boat Depth:70 to 90 Lure Depth:60 to 70 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS...... I did solo trip sat afternoon,,,and After trolling for 2 hours without a bite, and marking fish down 80, 90 100, 110 in 90 to 150 fow with no takers....decided to make a move. Down temp/speed probe acting up....marine radio wouldn't work....FF would quit marking bottom on and off....things wern't looking to good for me. I pulled up my 3 rods...and started cruising into a new location ...and on the way ....Wow...the screen lit up ... bait everywhere, and nice BIG fishmarks.I was in 80 fow. Trolled in that area for the next 2 hours , fighting 5 , landing 3 . Lost one bomber when both dipsey's took off screaming...but only managed landing one of that double. Those fish were feeding heavy!! 25 lb female and 2 20lb/21lb males were FULL of alewives. Fun time out on the big lake. ====================

2012 Sodus Bay Healing Waters Salmon Slam - August 4th
choo-choo replied to TOP SECRET's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Great job Team Ruff Rider..... and all the volunteers too. Nick , Theresa , and all the rest should be proud for giving those Vet's a fun day out on the big Lake. They all really seemed to be thankful, for the opportunity to have a peaceful fishing trip , out on a boat , on Lake Ontario, with fishermen/women that really care about their well being. I was thinking that many of the wounded vet's, would like to be boat owning fishermen, but their injuries and old wounds would make that tough for them. If any Military men/women and veterens are reading this.....THANK YOU for serving, and protecting this great country for the last hundred years....and making it so safe now for us , our children, and grandchildren,.... to do the things we love.... every day. -
Running a Starcraft fishmaster 2100...want to tube...options
choo-choo replied to Mark Komo's topic in This Old Boat
Mark....Some gander mtn stores have their tubes on sale right now. ! , 2 , or 3 person tubes with the hand holders are the best for higher speed tubing. They also have the rope harnesses , that float and form a "Y" behind your boat and it keeps things clear of your motor and prop. The 2 short ends of the "Y" attach to the tow hooks or cleats on both sides of your transom, and the long floating rope attaches securely to the front of the tube, to keep it's nose up better. Be extra careful, especially with the little ones , getting in and out of water into boat etc. ...shut motor off for extra safety. Be careful and have fun....and don't get to close to any FISHERMEN !!! -
Rod....good job on the fish ,and you guy's placed pretty well despite all the problems. I hope the boat get's fixed quick, and it doesn't cost jon to much money. He's as nice a guy as you can meet up around the lake. ....and I hope you are right about your Mex Bay prediction! I fished there yesterday morning solo , didn't mark that much bait or fish... but did manage to go 2 for three on kings...all 3 hit spoons....no fly bites for me. Continued good luck to you and your boy's.

Dave Mull @ GLA's blog post about his incident last week.
choo-choo replied to Yankee Troller's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Man ...what a story...a real wake up call for me. Life jackets, cushions ,radio, phone, flares are gonna be ready for quick use. Boston Whalers don't seem so expensive after reading how quick that boat swamped and went under. I will keep a more watchful eye for fellow fisherman who might be in trouble too. -
Good luck up there HB.....Hopefully the fishing is good, but then again ,the fishing is only secondary, and a bonus if it's good on a get-a-way trip !! ....we all need to "get away" once in awhle...enjoy.
