  3. Well it was tough tobogganing and sledding, half inch of snow tuesday am,no snomobiling.....finally got a call about 41/2 inches of ice on woods pond ,not to much of a drive from my house. So I got my 2 grandkids from North Carolina out for a couple hours of jigging. And i am happy to say they caught 5 keeper bluegills , and they were as happy as could be. Ice fishing is so much fun for the little ones, they can see and feel the bites and hold the rod and reel in the fish all by themselves. Thanks for the ice updates on the other post, and the ice condition phone call i got was great . The Kids went home really happy... despite the lack of snow,3 days of skiing at Elk MTN. , and they got to go ice fishing too !! Here are some pics...............choo-choo steve choo-choo steve III and cynthia Happy Girl !! choo-choo III getting into it !!! tough sledding on 1/2 inch snow

  6. I walked down to the river, about 3:30 new years eve, to put an ending on fishing season 2011. I tried my usual stickbaits with no luck. Switched over to a jig and plastic .....was soon hit by a hard digging, strong, river smallmouth. They're another fish that swims side by side, all year long , with the wild rainbows , browns , walleye, and an occasional native brook trout , along this stretch of river. No hits for awhile , then got donked by a fish....missed it....but a couple casts later got "double donked" by a good fish, that fought well and turned out to be a nice 21 inch walleye. Being it was almost dark, and i was running a little late for a new years eve dinner , so I let him go , to end the season. I hope you all had a great 2011....and all have an even better 2012.............choo- choo steve ....pics...

They were so looking forward to doing some more sledding and ice fishing...a sport that doesn't exist down there. 12. It sure is special place walleyemagic....by the way I need to "follow" you around out there off of Chaumont and Black River!!! WE've seen you and your awesome boat"Magiceyes" out there ...with your net moving quite a bit !!! Keep up the good work out there and i hope you have a great, "fishfull" spring and summer up there in 2012.......choo-choo steve
  13. Man , I don't think i can try eating them....I'm with Ray K on this one. I don't like the idea that they root around on the bottom, in any kind of water,...... who knows what they are ingesting. I think i will stick with eating fish that i know i like....fish that eat other fish as part of their diet . Rolmops , did you eat them because they were real tasty, or because there was not to many other kinds of fish available? icedd...are they really good smoked? You said the smoked St. Lawrence carp was better than a smoked salmon!!.....is that a dark, old, mushy salmon that was caught in November from a Lake O trib......or a salmon caught in july out in the lake ?Just wondering......steve
  14. I stopped in this deli near where I was working in New Jersey last week....I could not believe the sign on the door...LIVE CARP 1.99 lb. , yup , those carp you're thinking of !!! They gave me a free calender with a recipe on each month....check out the carp pictured , with whiskers, and the "delicious" sounding recipe with it. They are a dlicacy in some parts of Europe i guess. Man, I guess there's a market for carp down in the new jersey area....the weight and money would add up a lot quicker catching carp for sale compared to yellow perch!!!!! Anybody here in LOU land eat Carp ? Is it really tasty ? Any body that tries this recipe....let us know how it turns out.....choo choo steve
  15. I walked down to the river about 3:45 yesterday afternoon hoping for some walleyes....no wind ...river down and clearing...no ice along shore...cool air 34*. Started casting for walleyes with a stick bait...Bam !!hooked up right away, frisky fighter, turned out to be a beautiful, wild male brown trout about 17". Casted a little more and got another good hit...another wild brown about 15" on the same stickbait. The walleyes finally got active and started "looking up" and I caught 2 and lost one in the last 15 minutes of daylight....One was 18" and the other about 16". All the fish came on the same stickbait. The upper Delaware is a unique river where 3 of my favorite fish , rainbow trout, brown trout, and walleye, live side by side, all year long...pretty cool place. ........ (the walleye pics are dark, because the flash was turned off...sorry, still learning).......choo-choo steve
  16. Congrats to you and your family Tom....it's a special feeling ....enjoy your time down there, and have a safe trip home.....choo-choo steve
  17. icedd... I posted a couple pics in the Fishing Pictures section
  18. Landshark.....super nice fish.... and nice pictures....that place is truly amazing, and i can't wait to get up there again. What are the chances of getting a 15 lber? Have you heard of any that size get caught this year ? Do they get many that big during the season ?....just wondering..... , choo-choo
  19. I forgot to mention, i added a rope handle(white rope in picture) to the bucket , which slips over the boat cushion for carrying the bucket with the top on.....steve
  20. You probably saw this tip in GL Outdoors magazine last year, or the year before.....but no need to cut out wood or plywood for a special top as they had pictured . I just glued a 5 gallon bucket lid to a vinyl? type throwable boat cushion . You then have a comfortable , waterproof , bucket top/seat cushion, that could save your life...or someone elses life. When you glue the top to the boat cushion, just offset it a little to one side(don't center the bucket top on the cushion)...this makes it easier to get your fingers on the lid to open the bucket. When walking out to your spot on the ice, or going hole to hole while jigging etc. , you always have that floating seat cushion with you.... if youkeep a 20 foot coil of rope attached to it, then you can slide the top/cushion to someone who has fallen in, and pull them to safety....or if you fall in you can throw the rope to someone and the can pull you out! It took me literally 2 minutes to make it......just had to wait for the glue to dry. My top i made in the picture made it through all of last season, and it is really comfortable and gives me a little peace of mind when i'm out there on the ice...good luck to all....and stay safe....choo-choo steve
  21. Polar Bear ...""Wow" is a good way to describe it up there...it is really insane the amount of fish that pour into those bays in the fall each year. I was thinking to myself when we were up there, that with so many fish stacked up, i hope that some type of disease doesn't just spread like wildfire and hurt the fishery. It just seems like there are too many fish in one area...i know that sounds like a weird concept"too many fish", but my goodness, you gotta check your sonar settings, to make sure you are not in simulator mode, or getting double or triple or quaddruple fish arches for 1 fish!!It's nuts. Panfisher...there is actually some pretty good walleye that are getting caught in different areas from sodus , fair haven, oswego , sandy pond , henderson area, black river, chaumont , st lawrence and other bays and towns in U.S. waters...but all of them combined, isn't even a fraction of what the got up there near QUINTE !!.....steve
  22. Pete....Yikes....I bust on the jersey hunters that i work with, about the jersey bears being semi-tame, because their used to being around humans and human scent....that the jersey bears are "backyard bears" and almost pets that are hard to scare off when near houses and garbage cans.....I guess I was right !!! The jersey bears are now moving in to houses to den up...and sleeping with the enemy!!!....steve
  23. Bloodshot...nice looking tip downs....with the right weather, they are a lot of fun to fish with. Multiple back to back to back "chinese fire drills" some days, and you stay warm running from hole to hole, pulling up fish, and re-setting and re-baiting the tip downs !! I like , when after a big school of crappies or perch come through, and your running in circles, then you look up and you got none in the water!!!...just fish flopping ,and "tipped over " tip down bases and rods littering the ice !!! Get the minnow bucket and get them tip downs re set!!!!Quick like!!! Man , I can't wait.............steve
  24. Orangediablo....thanks.....that place is amazing. If you like walleye's ,you gotta make a trip up there . We have been starting to find some nice eye's on the U.S. side of lake ontario, but it is not even close in comparison, in size and numbers. I don't think there is anywhere in North America where there are that many large walleye's ....steve
  25. here's a couple of pic's from my Quinte trip with icedd....
