" Gulp" sushi flies
choo-choo replied to choo-choo's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Fish Hunter....yes , using cut bait on the fly is the old trick that Fish Doctor has been using for a long time....and it is super effective . But using real, fresh or frozen , cut bait can be messy, very expensive and not always available at every port early in the morning. I was just wondering if anyone has tried any, easy to find, available everywhere , scented plastic products, like gulp,, that work for lake ontario salmon/trout , so i can use it to make " artificial" sushi flies. steve -
Just wondering if anyone has tried to add "gulp !!! " or other scented plastics on their trolling flies ,instead of real cut bait ,to make a "sushi " fly for salmon and trout . steve

choo-choo replied to Capt Vince Pierleoni's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Capt. Vince..... thanks for the info....# saved ....you never know what we're going to run into in our travels. It's a different world that we are living in now. The Border Patrol , Coast Guard , and all the Law Enforcement Agencies can use all the help they can get from us. The more "eye's" out there , the better for us all !!! IF YOU SEE SOMETHING , SAY SOMETHING . -
I hope you get better real soon Zach !!!!

humbled by the lake
choo-choo replied to fast and silver's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
KJL and Chowder....yeah the" push the barb through" clip off and back out method works if it's not super deep and not near the bone . If the hook point touches the bone or is anywhere near it , do not try to remove it without medical assistance. The doctor at the clinic in fulton told me you can have some real serious infection problems, if the metal hook scratches the bone. He took some x_rays to see if my hook was near the bone , so he new what type of incision, and cleaning out process , and removal was best. Fish slime, and metal hooks deep into your finger or bone can give you a bad infection , or worse, if not taken care of properly. A tetenous shot and anti- biotics are sometimes recommended depending on some factors also. Keep this in mind next time anyone you know get's a hook into them !!!!Depth of the hook point and barb, whether it scratched a bone, or if it is near a bone , angle of entry ,are all important factors on removal techniques. Good luck to all and be super careful around these modern ultra sharp hooks!!! -
humbled by the lake
choo-choo replied to fast and silver's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Wow...what a way to end the season!!!! I feel your pain,literally...i buried a rapala treble deep into my finger this spring, while hastily trying to get it back in the water on a hot brown trout bite....OUCH!! throbbing pain for 4 hours, had to stop in Fulton to get it removed on my way home. Good wire cutting pliers are a must , couldn't fish with that J-9 Rap dangling from my Finger !!! And Fast and Silver ,keep anchor and 300 or more feet of anchor line, or a couple of drift socks handy to stop you , or slow you down from drifting out further from shore or drifting into shore Rocks etc.!! Good Luck next year out on the big lake !!! Better day's are ahead of you.!!! choo-choo steve -
It's been fun but its time to move on......
choo-choo replied to HOLY DIVER's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Hey Doug....Congrats on your new land purchase...I'm sure you are going to have a lot of fun, with lot's of memories hunting up there with your family and friends. You mention "it hit me hard" when you realized you don't have a boat anymore. It sounds like it was primarily a money decision to sellyour boat and fishing equipment. I think that is why it is hitting you so hard...down deep you want to do both (land and boat), but can't afford it...that sucks. The good news is, you are a young guy, (30 yrs old)so you've got time to save some dough to buy another boat in the near future,if it still bugs you not having one. It doesn't cost that much to keep a small boat in your driveway...and only take it out once in a while, when the weather is nice and the fishing is good . Fishing is great family fun, kids can enjoy it , from a real young age too.If you said "I can't stand fishing anymore" or "i hate being out here in a boat,I'm sick of it" , selling the boat would not be bothering you so much.... Just keep it in the back of your mind, you can have both, down the line sometime. Good Luck .....steve -

Boy o boy Lady O can turn mean and nasty real quick!!!All we could do was turn down wind to pick up our spread, then headed for port. We tried to fish well outside the pack, and target the suspended fish down 90 to 105 feet, but they were really scattered and sporadic marks for the most part. I guess we would have done much better , fishin' in the pack, but just wanted to have fun, with no confrontations.....and also we should have targetted the fish "belly" to the bottom. Oh well, we caught some nice fish and had fun!!!!I will try to post a picture of my 32 lber from 8/28.....good luck to all..........choo-choo steve ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ====================

Largest Lake Ontario Salmon Ever caught by trolling
choo-choo posted a topic in Open Lake Discussion
I was wondering if anyone knows what is the largest king salmon ever caught on Lake Ontario by a troller. I know the overall record is some 47+ lbs from the Salmon River on a fly, but i would love to know about the biggest king ever caught from a boat, while trolling. ..... steve
