  1. This year started the same way as last year 1st. Fish was a Walleye. Landed 2 lost 2 at the hole.also got 12 Perch biggest was 141/4.Ice varied 4-12". Missed a nice Laker about 30" right under the ice also great start.
  2. No permit needed any more.DEC took it over a few years ago and no longer needed.
  3. I am with Nautitroller.I have 45 acres of private land to hunt but choose to hunt public land because the quality of deer is better.I guess it all matters where you hunt.I am lucky to live in an area with an abundance of deer.I easily passed on over 30 bucks probably close to 50 So to me it is no big deal to let a 6 point walk by or even small 8.But I don't think I passed on many more Does than that.I think it was pretty close to 1 to 1 ratio where I was hunting.
  4. I went from a Vex 8 to a 20 now I have the 28 just keeps getting better.Never had a problem with any of them.

  6. I favor the antler restrictions( except for youth hunters)were I hunt restrictions have been in place for a couple of years and I am starting to see the difference.

  11. If your using the transom mount transducer you will have to rig something up so it is shooting straight down so you get accurate readings.
  12. Yellow Perch are legal to sell but I have a couple of quart bags I could toss you and a gallon bag of Walleye if you want to make a trip down south.

  16. I can see a few huts out in front of Macks out the window.Haven't been out myself. We have about 8" of snow. The winds we have been having didn't seem to clear the snow off the lake much.Use caution and stay on top.
  17. I think there is a release for doing it.I remember reading about it on a salt water website.I think you can set the depth and the water pressure releases.Been a year or so since I read about it and don't remember all of the details. They use them on Grouper and other deep water fish.It said the same that the survival rate was much higher than venting.Thought it would be great for Lake Trout when I read about it.
  18. Silver is all locked up also.
  19. Looks to be a mud puppy to me also.I have seen them many times in Naples Creek years ago when I use to Smelt dip there. How deep they go I do not know but I have caught a few while ice fishing.( not on Canadaigua)I have caught them in like 30' but wouldn't be surprised if they go much deeper or if Lakers go much shallower and eat them.
  20. My guess would be it is spawned out.
  21. I have one great suit and price.Super warm, lots of pockets and they float.
  22. I saw more fresh rubs in the last 2 weeks of deer season than the rest of the season combined.
  23. Sorry for your loss.I am sure they don't make them like that any more.Looks like some great memories,Hope you and your family managed to have a merry and hope you have a happy new year.
  24. In Wyoming County where I hunt I think I saw more bucks than ever.I went for like 35 to 40 days with at least seeing 1 or more buck, and as many as 10.As everyone else has said I saw very few mature bucks.Saw a few that may have pushed 140s maybe 2 in the low 140s.I saw lots of nice up coming smaller 8 points.Doe numbers were very low where I was hunting I would say about 1 to 1 buck to doe. With so few doe I had never seen so many smaller 1 honed bucks must have seen at least 15.Other areas around were I hunt everyone said there were high doe #s so I don't think there is any problem with the doe population.Hopefully some of the nicer up coming bucks I passed on made it threw.I know a least 2 got wounded and probably will not.The last week of season I passed up a nice 8 (30 yards) that I probably would have shooting if I wasn't in such a difficult spot to recover it.I could see 2 hunters about 200 yards from me on top of a very vertical hill almost unwalkable.2 hours later they took over 100 plus yard shot and wounded the buck stayed on top for another hour plus and then just left,Never even tracked it.When I was leaving I cut the bucks tracks and sure enough lots of blood.I tracked it for a ways it looked like he was dragging a leg.2 or 3 days later I went back to the same area for a evening hunt this time I stayed up on top hoping to catch deer at the top on there way to the fields. It didn't seem like any one else was around(no tracks in the snow) soon as I get set up I here a shot very close to me and see deer scrambling all over the bottom including a nice buck. When I left I saw 2 sets of human tracks that must of came in right behind me Figured it was the same 2 dirt bags that had wounded the other buck. The next day I went to the same area and a truck pulled in right behind me with 2 guys.I talked to them on the way in and they said they hit a nice buck the night before.I went to my stand on the bottom.Once down there I could see 1 of them on top in the exact spot as they were in when they shot the 1st buck and I knew it was the same dirt bags.Sorry for the rant but that is what is going on were I hunt = lack of Mature bucks.I see similar thing every year. The last buck I shot where these dirt bags were wounding these bucks took me 6 hours and 3 comealongs to retrieve.Trophy only for me.I wonder how many these guys and others like them have cost me and other ethical hunters like me makes me sick. This is not private land so it is not like I can do much about it.
