  1. I am with Paul Mustang Float Suit one of the best investments I have ever made.
  2. I have Big Jon Multi-set rod holders on my riggers. They have a large bolt that goes threw the base plate with a lock washer and a nut on the bottom side.Any time I have put a dipsy in them the one on the starboard side loosens up.I like the rod holders just do not like how they mount on the base.If they used two fasteners or something to stop them from pivoting on the base I would have been happy.Maybe the design is different on the triples.I now have Berts ratcheting rod holders and tracks on the sides of my boat and am very happy with them.If you decide to go with the Berts hear is the best price I found. http://www.franksgreatoutdoors.com/rod- ... 00240.html
  3. We opted to fish deep for Perch away from the masses.Had to fish through the small ones. The Perch are not the size they were 3 or 4 years ago.We did manage good number of fish in the 9 to 10 inch range. There was a lot of current out deep from the open water and wind.
  4. Gill bite has slowed down from what it was a couple of week ago.Down size with your jigs.Few crappies in the mix.4 plus inches of ice on the South end.Lots of open water mid lake.North end isn't safe. Some decent perch 25'+ have to weed threw the small ones.
  5. I would guess planer board release or down rigger release.
  6. My friend and I were fishing out of Olcott and caught a 18.5 pound Rainbow.I knew it was only going to make 19th or 20th place. We didn't even run in to weight it in.Any other year that fish would have made top 5 probably.
  7. I wouldn't even want Amazon bush people to see me wearing those things.
  8. It's to bad you guys didn't get into them.I use to fish the Bay in the early to mid 90s.When it is hot it is red hot but when it slow it is real slow. Some days we would catch 20-30 fish (two of us)other times we would fish two day without a bite.Better luck next time Sean
  9. Good Gortex Boots with a lot of protective fish slime on them.
  10. Silver has about 4" of ice. lots of gills on the south end.Few pike being caught. Most guys fishing out of Macks or boat launch, few guys out of Traber Rd.Mid lake north not safe shore ice isn't very good but doable.Few decent perch some crappie.
  11. Looking for a lowrance LGC-3000 GPS. receiver and power cable (Low-127-08)For a lcx 38c head unit I purchased.
  12. Niagara River and Bar are always great winter options, depending on water clarity, ice flows and wind.
  13. I have an out drive bracket and tube adjusts from 24" to 36" no outboard bracket $100
  14. I have always just drifted, usually on the drop off into the river channel.
  15. Few guys out fishing the south end.
  16. Silver Lake kept ice over this last warm snap.I haven't seen any activity yet.I will post when I get out.Better charge up the Vex.
  17. Most saltwater wire reels are chrome over brass spools.(Penn hsp, old Penn Mariner 49l, Diawa 400hw)They are conventional reels (no level line). They use Monel wire. They mark the wire every 100ft. it has a sink rate of 10 to 1 every 100ft. will get you down 10ft.You can use a line counter with alum. spool just use braided line.
  18. Aluminum spool + stainless wire + saltwater=electrolysis spool and wire will not hold up.

  20. As everyone has said you should be fine with your rig.I would consider putting a kicker motor on your boat.Save on gas, less fumes, good piece of mind if something happens to your main motor. It was the best investment and improvement I have ever made to my boat.I would never fish the big lake without it.
  21. I have used a Vexilar fl 8 for about 15 years. It doesn't have bottom zoom like the more expensive Vexilars, but does everything I need.I can see smelt hit my jig at 100' works for me.I sent my old one back for service once. Customer service was great, fixed my unit very cheap quick turn around time.Very happy with my Vexilar.I have not used any of the others but have been more than happy with my fl 8.
  22. Have a Happy Birthday Anthony and a happy New Year.I hope Santa brought you lots of new fishing toys.Sean
