fishing canada...think again
Sean Youngblood replied to traveling man's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I feel lucky I was only extorted for $95.00 from NYC and $125.00 US federal Gov.While Striper fishing at Great Kills NYC Memorial Day weekend.$95.00 for parking overnight in the park.$125.00 for having commercial plates on my pickup.Apparently Commercial plates are not allowed on National Recreation areas. They didn't even hold my boat hostage. What a bargain. Our Government is much better. lol I guess next year we will get a slip.My friend payed $50.00 for a permit to launch there.Which he had to show them his registration for his truck and boat and he got the same tickets. Our Governments sure are hard up. -
Get your tracks plenty long.It will give you more versatility. If your dipsys are to close to your riggers you simply slide them forward and adjust it up a little.Your net holder will fit in the track. You can put adapters on your tite loks to fit the tracks.Your triples look like they may even fit in tracks.Thats the great thing about the tracks you can mix and match, take out add without putting more holes in your boat. With the tracks you can have rod holders where you enter and exit your boat loosen a couple of thumb screws, push them out of the way get in slide them back where they were. You can even put step pads in the tracks for getting in and out. Here is the best price I found for Bert's Ratcheting rod holders. They have what ever you need for tracks.http://www.franksgreatoutdoors.com/cata ... id/150365/

Tracks are 3.75" wide, holes are 3" on center.

Has anyone tried this wire ?
Sean Youngblood replied to Sean Youngblood's topic in Tackle and Techniques
I got the wire in today it sure seams like nice stuff. It seams like it is going to be more forgiving than uncoated wire.I have used wire for a few years now. I have good luck with it but by the end of the season it looks like a slinky. It got much better when I put the twilly tips on my rods, but I still get kinks aka a-holes and looks like a giant spring by seasons end.I have tried a couple of different brands always have used good swivels and every spring it whines up in my garbage can.Any suggestions would be appreciated. -
Maybe you could use the inexpensive pedestal risers mount one in each of the back corners. With 2x6 over the motor. With riggers and rod holders on it.Eye bolts threw your oar locks .Run cables from your eye bolts using snap hooks to the 2x6 going up the sides of the boat.Cable will steady the board and help keep you in the boat while setting lines and fighting fish.Use large c shaped vise grip claps to attach pedestal base to corners. Can take off easy when not in use or trailering. Overtons has 13 " risers for $19.99 each.

Has anyone tried this wire ?
Sean Youngblood replied to Sean Youngblood's topic in Tackle and Techniques
http://www.overstockbait.com/SevenStran ... -27wnf.htm For $78.95 for 5000ft. I will take my chances.Sorry I got the last spool. They still have some good deals on Stren fishing line. -
I was wondering if anyone has tried this for wire dipsy set up ? Sevenstrand by sevalon. This braided 27lb. wire features 7 strands wrapped tightly together and coated with nylon making it durable and extremely flexible. Was thinking of trying it with a roller rod.Any thoughts or experiences with this would be helpful. Thinner than mono of the same lb. test.

I ordered the 798c SI is on its way .With the price of gas. I might be doing more Walleye fishing On the small lakes. I thought the side imaging may work well for running planer boards.Does anyone know what the Navionics Bundle that it comes with consists of.Thanks Sean

Thanks Billy I talked to you a little bit about this at the lotsa show.I can get a thru-hull transducer for a aluminum hull correct ? I kind of figured it didn't have enough power for the big lake.Do the HD units you mentioned have better base maps?

I have the 595c combo. I haven't really decided if I like it or not.Last year I put in a 101 Terrova bow mount and put the 3 batteries towards the front of the boat.I had the transducer on the corner of the boat,to keep it away from the motors.Know I have been losing bottom when it gets choppy out, from the transducer coming out of the water. Then my friend that fishes with me sometimes is always playing with the settings.Last time out a couple of weeks ago I reset the defaults and it seamed better.I was fishing the Niagara and it didn't show the border on the base map.I found that disappointing.Even my handheld Garmin GPS. I use to use had that on it.I plan on getting a chip for it but you would think they would have an international border on it.I remember reading posts on here a year or two ago about other people having trouble losing bottom with there Humminbirds.Maybe you can do a search and find those post.Sorry I couldn't be more help.I need to do some adjusting to my setup if it doesn't come around I will be looking for something else. But I am not ready to say it's a bad unit.

Thanks windburn I just looked at it sitting next to the computer and thought maybe it's coated rigger cable.Looked and saw your response.Never used the coated rigger cable so I really didn't think about it.Looks like good stuff.I will have to give it to my friend he runs a Moor speed and temp and was having coated cable issues last year.
