SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS
==================== It was a beautiful evening aboard the Rabid Weasel and the sun was hiding behind the clouds for the first hour of the trip. We were targeting Spiny Fleas and little did we know that we were going to be in luck (but would have to wait for the fish to stop biting). Unfortunately we had a brown trout get on our line immediately which ended up shaking off all our blessed Spiny Fleas on the dipsey diver. After "flicking" the brown trout back into the lake, we reset the lines in hopes for some delicious Spiny Fleas.
Moments after putting the dipsey back down (150' feet back on setting 2- a proven Spiny Flea setting) we had another disappointment as a flea flicking steelhead ripped it. We got a very good look at this trout on it's 3rd jump as the nk 28 flew out of it's mouth and it was in the teens easily. Needless to say, we were free of fleas yet again. We were beginning to feel discouraged as Jack was reeling in the dipsey when the starboard rigger went off.
This is when we finally started getting into the fleas. That rigger was full of 'em. Except for another stupid flea flickin' steelhead, we crushed the Spiny Fleas the rest of the night.
When the sun came out from behind the clouds, the fish stopped biting.
Here's something interesting on a serious note. We saw some birds on the horizon and decided to fish the area (Not far from Hedges). Upon getting close we saw a very large carcass floating and thought it might be a carp or huge sheepy but it turned out to be a king in the upper 20's. It looked like it had been floating for a while and the birds had gotten to it and when we got close we saw that it had what appeared to be a pink/green tinsel fly with same color flasher or spin doctor hanging from it's mouth. We tried to double around to gather the actual tackle so we could post it and hopefully return that gear to the owner and save a few birds but we lost it on the turn.
Keep us posted if that fish rings a bell. It may have come from Canada as we had a north wind for the past few days, but who knows. Interesting to hear from you all either way along with any Spiny Flea recipes......... Good luck folks and remember that "No man, with a big fish, walks home through the alley". Henrybud
