  1. WTF is right. Someone needs to be liable for that mess. Who knows what the channel is going to be like after this blow.
  2. I believe that's ASB (All in Same Boat) Tackle in Newfane. Great store and keeping $$ local.
  3. Check out the Convector CV30 DS on Fish USA. "Good value" for a rigger or wire reel. $84.99 6.2:1 gear ratio and free shipping. Good luck with your decision
  4. Great reels except the linecounter position suc-s. They're also twice the price of a Convector.

  7. As Sk8man stated earlier it's not only the strength/quality of the rod holder insert, but the integrity of the gunwale itself. I've run gimbal mounts for my riggers for 12 years now using 12 lb weights with no issues in my Pursuit. I've been on other boats using same setup and the whole gunwale flexs with the rigger. Not good long term. Big Johns are also a good choice because the arms flex with weight, taking the strain off the gunwale.IMO
  8. We starting seeing the dead shad toward the south end of the bay in early March. Still a lot of ice with open pockets of water. For awhile it looked like every seagull within 30 miles was having a shad buffet. Can't imagine they spawn in those low water temps. More of a water quality issue I think
  9. Wow didn't realize Newport got hurt also. Bayview Condos has damage to. Not sure about the Canoe Club or anyone else. There is no stopping those ice flows when they get moving.
  10. Yup. The south dock took a big hit along with the one just to the north. One of those nor'easter's beginning of March. What little ice that was left on the Webster side to the north came crashing down in middle of the night. Our docks at the Game Club dodged a bullet because of Snyder Island to the north. Repairs at Sutters are underway
  11. I started with an allbright knot which worked fine. A charter cap showed me how he haywire twists a small swivel on the wire. It is a two man job but works well also
  12. Just tie on 20 ft of 40 or 50 lb mono on the end of your wire and you dont't have the curly Q's to trim off. Wire should last for years unless you tangle with a copper or whatever.
  13. When the fleas show up around Rochester we splice in 150ft of Blood Run Sea Flea with back to back uni knot. 10ft or so of 20lb flouro to swivel from there. Seems to work for us
  14. My advice would be to go to the first three posts on this topic list from Legacy. Rob has stated everything you need to know about reel sizes and spooling. Great info
  15. WindAlert helps with wind direction and speed.
  16. Bought new planer reels in 2016 which came with 150-200 lb mono on them. It was OK for a couple of months then nothing wanted to slide on it easily. Changed it out with a 300 ft spool of 150 lb Power Pro last year and could not be happier. I run double keeled Otters with Clipper releases in spring and Scottys later on

  18. Lots of open water that part of I-Bay right now. I had no luck walking some shoreline. Good luck with the paddle search
