Thanks for the report If you like smallies they are in that run as well upstream from the bridge and down in 30-40 fow. We were trolling there the last weekend of June using deep cranks white, pink, chartrues. Wish I moved a little deeper for the eyes Well maybe this fall. If bow fever doesn't get me first

Cayuga 8/7 afternoon excursion at Dean's
143447 replied to 143447's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
I marinade the LL's and browns in Wegman's terriyaki sauce for a day or two then grill them over charcoal , sprinkling in some soaked mesquite chips on top of the hot coals...more smoke the better The last 2 I brought home, i just tossed on the grill next to other dinner stuff that night...man the LL's are my favorite -
Something extra exciting about the solo trips You really get em in good numbers!! The weeds in there seem heavier than other lakes..wonder why, different weed types, or does the wind shake loose more crap and float it around. I almost turned into the Geneva launch on the way to Cayuga but last summer at this time trolling was impossible around the north end..tons of weeds. I guess jigging is the way to go..but for LLs.. I'll keep trollin right

Pulled into the Dean's Cove launch at 1pm to see massive dark blue clouds rolling in from the west and the radar on the phone looked like the 16 Smoker should hold off open water for an hour or so. rained buckets and flashed a little here and there a few boats ran in and left, I waited the wind and rain out and launched around 3pm docks disserted. Very short troll due to more wind and rain comin, ran 3 miles or so south and set up in the 150-200s in rolling waves from the south. Second time out with the leadcore rig at 8 colors and my favorite stinger spoon I see this 6 lber jumping 400 feet behind the boat 3 times and then took off straight down and never showed till the net 10 minutes later. Only fish of the trip, north wind started blowing hard, the waves rolled up to caps from the north and I ran back after a very short hour troll. Oh well , my salmon program is getting better in here. A couple pics.. My sacred trout n salmon grounds They have such awesome color when they come out 21.5 or so scale bouncing at 5-6, my best yet straight to the grill

just amazing fishing WOW

A 14er and no pic ahhh we gotta hold on for our fix Sean. Great job again!! Thanks for the report, Cayuga is a can't miss this summer

When I was at the state park in June that launch was surrounded by thick weeds. I would think at this point of the summer, trailering to Deans..15 minutes down 89 would be worth the ride. yes, just motor south towards the power plant and set up out deep...the floating weeds weren't bad either last Sunday Good luck, mix in pink with green colors too guy

Waited for some of the rain and junk to cycle out of the finger lakes Sunday morning and made an afternoon run with my wife to my all time favorite trout lake. I had planned on a long slow afternoon troll but things turned out quite different for us, we found active trout just north of Sheldrake starting a north troll in the 180's circling out to 300's and back with the Terrova. At about 1:30pm or so the lake laid down and for what ever reason the trout turned on We ended up 6 for 7 with 3-4 lakers right at 20 to 23.....1 laker at 27 and 6lbs ..1 at 25 inches and never weighed. 2 lakers and went home all others went back including a very cocky 16 inch LL. All fish right at 50-55 down everywhere, wire divers fired , the rigger took 2 fish including the biggest on a new stinger spoon. The leadcore rig dropped 1 fish out deep , not sure what it was a little deeper at 12 colors with stick bait. Learned alot about color today , trying new spoons in varying color cominations..nothing natural The weeds weren't too bad some areas really clean others loaded up, the fleas were horrible though. Pretty quiet around Dean's saw some bass rigs here and there maybe 2 trollers south of me but had alot of quiet lake out there yesterday. Only out there for 2 hours. My wife with her 27 inch I deep fried later Me with a couple more fishys from the day. I love this lake

dre, I have found the vane size correlates with your rest type. I shoot 2 inch vanes and G5's in 100 grain fixed... very stable off the rest. I like the wisker bisket rest, i get alot of straight down shots hunting at 23 feet. The longer vanes were snapping arrows left and right. I am not a long range shooter by any means, this set up works perfect when they are right under the tree !!

Hey nice job in there Tfalls can get really crowded mid-summer, you hit em early and cashed in. Thanks for the report -Chris

Do you think it will be ok tomorrow to fish the shoreline with my 16 smoker? Thanks Chris ====================

Thanks guys, I am outta there for the summer at this point. Summer slows in there are painful!! I like the restrictions in there , who wants the bigger tourney boats around there The big lakes are calling now the fleas will be gone soon. Good luck guys Woody, you guys should be out pounding sharks now!! Tim's websight looks great

Hey Chuck nice rainbow!! Thanks for a Hemmy report, not seeing many and not seeing many trollers the 2 times I went down there. I have only been down there twice and could only manage 2 small lakers and a giant brown that flopped off behind the motor. I was wondering if you have heard any dissagreements over leaving the larger 10plus hp motors on the boat while using a trolling motor or kicker for power in there? I have heard it was ok from the City of Rochester and not ok by other fisherman that saw me there with the 30hp johnson hanging but not engaged. I use a bow mount 80lbs terrova to motor around but leave the 30down for a tail rudder..works perfect. Them bows are just awesome!! Chris

The Oak 07/20/11

Nice Getting tired of all the lakers in the fingers yet I am planning a run to Golden Hills hopefully this weekend or next if the lake and oh yeah ..work allows. Great pics Sean, the oak is on fire this summer!! -
Never leave home without em. I would toss the down rigger and fish finder over before my 2 diver rigs These rigs catch trout on Hemlock and Canadice so you know they are well worth it.

Good job in there on a tough day to troll Yes, nice bow!! -
I headed down to Deans's Cove this am..get there at first light if you can I brought along a buddy from work that had not been in a boat or much less fished in 25 years!! Well we slept in a little and didn't hit the water till mid morning like 8:30ish...try not to do this The trolling was tough off Dean's, junk in the water, fleas, rolling waves for a while so we picked up and headed a few miles south and set up just north of Shekdrake out deep. Water looked pretty clean and fish were showing up at 60-70 feet down in good numbers. We nailed this nice LL trolling a chicken wing spoon off 8 colors of leadcore. After some a few incredible jumps out back and an exciting net job we netted him. a chunk at 5lbs and 23 inches We laker searched all over but tough going for me today. I want to Thank the much larger boats that gave us plenty of room running past us at high speed..very thoughtful move guys

This is a late post but I wanted to share this special fish with the board. The family and I snuck down to Conesus last Monday evening to get out on the boat one last time before my son Brian headed off to basic training with the National Guard Tuesday afternoon. Brian never caught a Pike before that night and was after me this summer to put a Pike in the boat before he left for the 9 weeks of basic in Missouri. Well at 8pm we decided to try trolling some deep diving cranks along the southwest shore and as luck would have it this big guy cooperated. 37 inch 13lbs pike grabbed a reef runner in 40fow and put up a tough 10minute battle with 2 good runs before we horsed him into the net. Yes he is off for mounting..

Canadice n Hemlock same rules apply...10HP or less, 16ft boat or less. Hope it continues. Was at Canadice Friday night. Very quiet , trolled around with the Terrova for an hour or so trying out the electronics. Marked not 1 bait pod, a few fish along the east side close to the bottom in the 60's. The launch is much too shallow for my boat. No eyes in Canadice. Very large bass around though and a lot of pickerel. Hemlock has a few eyes still?? This is getting more n more interesting Yes...Conesus at night or Honeoye at night your best bet.

Great report as usual Sean. The shots are precious!! Can't wait to hit Cayuga this summer!! I added a 24volt bow mount troller to the custom Smoker and it's gonna get alot of use before my son Brian heads off to boot camp the end of June. Any action outta Dean's yet guys... or is the south end HOT right now?? -Chris

Here's a somewhat ok pic of the bow section of my boat. I added the casting deck and bass chair. I'll need to build up the walls along the bow rail to mount the trolling motor but I think the 80 lbs should haul me around ok . I'll bury the batteries under the casting deck. really a glorified 16 foot row boat I tell people. The boys had fun battling a laker on Cayuga last summer. This is a fishin boat. I am thankful for all the input. Dude bring the batteries and trolling motors inside before Thanksgiving.
