Niagara pro am video
rdebadts replied to rdebadts's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Yes!! Apparently they do- there are 2 rigger reels that need work. The dipseys I had to tighten the drag a bit, cause with the east wind and west current they were constantly ticking out line... they were certainly tighter than I would normally have them. Olcott 5/19-5/21
rdebadts replied to rdebadts's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Lol, hard to imagine what I needed to do to place... We caught ~30 salmon in 2 days... guess just needed more luck? Tough to be disappointed when the fishing was so good though Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -
Did the proam in olcott again this year. What a great few days!! Thursday- we started out front of Wilson and trolled west towards the bar. We started working 60-90 fow, but only had 2 coho after about 4 miles. When we trolled back east, we had 5 quick king bites in 100-140, so we had a starting point for Friday. They wanted all spoons, mostly uv regular sized stuff. Friday- we got our butts kicked all morning. The strong nw wind made the 8 mile run miserable, and the fish just weren't in that water from 80-120. We boated a handful of coho and a laker, but needed size to compete. We moved out to 140-220 just west of Wilson and it turned on! From 10-12:30 we had ~15 bites, all salmon. They wanted meat and flasher/fly- and much deeper. 80-110 riggers and 270 dipseys were the ticket. We had a ton of 2 year old kings, and our box came up short. 65 pts put us in 10th place? Either way, a great day fishing with 20 bites. Sunday- the ne blow had me worried. I thought our fish would be gone.... they weren't. It was non stop action all day, 150-200 fow just west of Wilson. We had 30 bites, all kings, all 2-3 year olds. We had 8 bites before 6:30 (and before I ever got my full spread out). They wanted meat deep- 300-500 coppers, riggers 80-100 down, dipseys 270+. Everything was firing, and we had action literally all day long. Unfortunately we didn't have the weight to compete in the ams.. our 72 pt box was just outside of placing. Oh well... I love spring kings. They just fight so hard. What a blast. I love this tourney and the fishing this time of year down here!! By the way- that atommik meat is solid! Holds up great! Sodus really has been solid this year. Really good brown fishing. I just moved the boat to Wilson, and rotted yesterday! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -

What a strange day. The screens in 150-300 were just crazy, bait and fish everywhere. Just caught a a steelie and a coho on top, missed a few shots on the riggers... that was it. I don't get it? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -

It won't be 1-3s in Mexico with 15+west winds. More like 4s. Strong west winds are not fun on that end. The waves have 200 miles to get big and angry Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Launched the boat at 6 (she's on the trailer- the water is just too damn high!) and we were out of the channel by 6:30. We had excellent fishing for browns out to 30 fow. We managed 15-20, with a really nice class of bigger fish. We did a bunch of catch and release today, but kept a handful for friends- including a 10 lb 12 oz piggy that is on the board. They wanted stinger spoons- sticks did 2 bites all day. Doesn't sound like it mattered where you went, they were chewing. Finding green water was key. It was chocolate milk off all the points and creeks, and we largely found this to be unproductive. Also- having a few splitshot seemed to help, as did going fast (2.5+) Sodus point I think is going to be unfishable for a few weeks due to the crazy high water. It's too bad. Off to olcott next weekend and the week after. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

It might be bad for fishing, in that many guys aren't going to be able to get out because their docks and the launches are underwater... or because they have no money to fish due to devastation to the shore of the lake and bays... Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

This time of year, coho and steelhead run in the same area. Top to about 40 down. They like red stuff, small flasher/fly Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

In my observation (I fish both ends yearly) it is also all about timing. Generally speaking, early April it is tough to beat the east end and mid basin brown Fishing. As soon as you get to late April until late may, the far west end is just awesome for kings, coho, lakers. In June and July, its a crap shoot- I've seen the west and east end have the bulk of the fish, depending on the predominant wind direction. By August and September, the east end really takes over. I've moved my boat from Sodus to the oak several times in July- some years, that is a great move... some years it isn't. The general down trend in brown fishing has really hurt the east end. This year has seemed about average to me? Some really good days, some tough days... Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
