A brief report as not much to say.... We started the am in 100, worked out to 140-160 where we had good marks. We took a shot on a 300 dipsey with flasher/meat, which was gone pretty quick. Then we took a wicked shot on a 110 rigger with a down and out and a mag crabface, which we had on for about 5 minutes before he broke us off... Too bad as that was a good fish. Then pretty much immediately we took a good shot on a 500 copper with meat, which we lost due to a drag that was cranked up last night and never loosened... Lost about 30 bucks worth of tackle there! This was all before 7:30... We would proceed to rot the rest of the day. I zigged when I should have zagged- we worked east and out, and there was nothing out there. By the end of the day we had worked back to the west in front of maxwell in about 95-110, where the screen was lit right up, and we took a small King on a spoon to end the skunk. That was it. A very frustrating day. We had our shots at good majors first thing and had some tackle failures which cost us dearly. Then they got lockjaw, and it was over. Oh well, that's fishing! I would definitely give 90-110 a good hard look tomorrow- the screen was loaded and when the fish turn on its gonna be nuts. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Did a short am trip out of Sodus.. We fished 6:30-9:30, and it was well worth it!! The stagers are here! We fished 100-130 just a bit west. Our riggers were parked 85-100 down, dipseys 270-320 on setting 1.5. We ended up 4-6 on kings, mostly matures, mostly on meat or mag spoons, with one shot on white flasher/green fly. The fish are right where they should be and they are eating well. The screen was lit up all morning, and I suspect you can grind bites all day... Back at it Saturday. Tournament or Charter spread
rdebadts replied to wallguy's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
For late summer salmon, I've found that 3 riggers, 2 dipseys (one on each side) and a copper works well. Big kings are nuts to fight, and too much in the water is asking for tangles. Gotta make the bites you get count... Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -

They were very very spread out... I call it "needle in a haystack" fishing -

Well I brought the boat down to the oak for my vacation week. We started on Thursday in close, but quickly realized there was nothing going on in there. So we trolled out, and we trolled out, and we trolled out.… We finally found bait, fish, and an armada of boats, in about 400 fow. We had pretty good action on a mixed bag of different year class kings and nice steelhead. Initially they wanted spoons up higher (45-60 down) but the bigger fish came later in the day on cutbait and flasher fly down deeper (90 rigger, 220 and 300 dipsey). One King was mid teens, the rest of the fish were all 6-10 lbs. we did bust off a huge King due to a reel issue (a first for me- the guide came off and the wire but through and got stuck). Friday we ran right out to the 30 line, and got back to essentially he same program. We worked 12-14 west, but could only manage steelhead and one King. Good action, pretty fish, just no majors. Saturday, I just couldn't get my act together. We did Essentially the same thing, but we couldn't seem to hone in on anything. The bites were rare and sporadic, with no pattern. We ended up voting two small kings and one small steelhead, that was it. Nothing special. Love the marina at the county park. Very nice facilities. Back to Sodus next week!
