Olcott vs the oak
rdebadts replied to Grand Slam11's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I fished the oak Tuesday and today. Slow for me Tuesday, just 2-4 on steelies, but did fairly well today out deep 550+ on a mix of kings and steel -

For what it's worth I emailed the head of the lake Ontario fishery about the bait situation. He got back to me very quickly with an incredibly detailed answer. I was very satisfied with what he had to say. From what I understand, they are trying to be proactive, which is not a bad thing. Before we all freak out, let's see what they actually are proposing. In my personal face-to-face as well as email interactions with these guys, I have not had nothing but good experiences. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt

Charters are obligated ( I think by law if not by ethics) to help someone in distress... At least that is what the captain I used to work for said.

Deeper... That's where the big guys live. If you can find 50 or even 48 degree water that's best. Leadcore is probably just gonna catch steelies right now. 400+ copper, dipseys out 260-350, and riggers down 90-130 have been working well on the east side

Me and my buddy Jon did a short trip out or Sodus today. We started fishing at about 80 fow in the slop, on a n/nw troll. We would work most of the day 110-180 on nw/se trolls. Temp was deeeeep... so we ran riggers 95-120 down with mag spoons and dipseys 290-330 with flasher fly. We started the day with a beautiful Atlantic down 100 with a mag crab face moonshine. We did a small salmon on a 300 dipsey with white spinny/atommik, then took a nice King on a 500 copper with a mag Bob fuller spoon. Our best water was 160 just a hair to the west. On the troll in we busted off a steelie down 95 in 105 fow. That water (100-110 fow) looked fantastic just prior to us picking up. By about 10 we had had enough and we packed it in. Nice to catch a few fish again... Man was it sporty out today!

Fishing the last few weeks has been poor. Should pick up soon (or sounds like it already has). I always report, but lately there hasn't been much to report

Pro am is this weekend -
Fished Sodus Thursday and Friday. Started Thursday fishing Browns, 50-80 fow. Temp was good, low 50s from 55 and deeper. There was bait and fish around, active marks... And we went 0 for 4 on mostly small spoons. At about 10 we picked up and motored out, fished from 250 out to 640, with one shot on the dipsey out 250 on flasher fly in 250 fow. 'Twas a barren waste land out there. We ended at 1 pm with my first skunk in several years... On Friday we went back to the brown water that looked so good Thursday to give it another go... But it was super warm water so we worked out. We fished 110-220 the rest of the day. Caught a steelie on a 60 rigger and took another shot on 310 dipsey with a mag moonshine. That was it. Lots of bait in close but few fish. I am stumped. Felt snake bit both days. Guess it's a good thing I can't fish the tourney!!! Apparently I don't know how to catch fish anymore? It's been a baaaaaad stretch for me out of Sodus so far this July!

FAIR HAVEN July 4, 5, 6th

I feel ya man. Was 2 for 3 out of Sodus July 5th... The two we caught totaled maybe 25 inches between them. Super deep temp, horrid currents. I had a bunch of tangles, and had to stop stacking my riggers. Very frustrating for sure
