  1. Good work. The lakers were shockingly uncooperative yeaterday. Shoulda gone west it looks like
  2. Man, what a weird day. We set up skinny in front of Lake Bluff, and worked our way all the way to East Bay looking for brown trout. Not a sniff until we got to perch point, then we went 2/4 between chimney and east bay. Good color, but a ton of traffic. Bay rats (which are new to me) took all of our hits inside on bright colored stuff (coho crusher, green dot) with one split shot. By 8:45 I was disgusted and had had enough, so I went out to abuse lakers. We got to 65 feet and immediately doubled on 11-12 lb fish, so i figured we were good... Not so much. We would only pick 3 more the rest of the morning. Good size generally but bad numbers. 65 to 80 appeared to be the best, but we did go out as far as 120, and took one fish in 110. I don't know what the deal was today. Everything looked good, they just weren't on the chew. Probably that darn east wind... To top it all off, we fixed one problem with the port engine, only to find another. Off to the marina it goes...
  3. Love it. I have considered just for ****s and giggles dedicating a whole day to lakers just to see how many I could do. Usually only fish em for an hour or two at the end of the day...
  4. Normally I fish the inside until about 9, then slide out and look for Browns/kings in 20-50 or beat up lakers in 70+
  5. Got mine, looks great, cannot wait to try it out!
  6. I was catching Browns in Sodus the 3rd week of July in 15-30 fow last year. If you come up April 30, they will be on the shoreline first light, and will stay there If there is color. If not, slide out and work 10-30 feet with toplines
  7. Clear water you need to use very long leads. 100 at least, up to 150 at times
  8. Nothing bad about a laker. Just not sexy like the others.
  9. Did a cool trip with my nieces and nephew today. Port engine was acting up and we needed to do some work, so we didn't get out until about 11. I didn't figure the brown bite would be on with it being so calm and clear, so we pointed her north to work on slime balls for the kids. We worked just a bit east towards the dumping grounds. The moment we crossed 65 fow it was on. Stupid, non stop action on lakers on cowbells and mag spoons 65-80 down in 70-90 fow. We had 3 triples and a double, ended up 12/17 in about an hour and a half. The kids had a ball and can't wait to go back out... So mission accomplished! These fish were chuck full of bait, spitting it up all over the place. Saw a ton of bait on the bottom from 35 feet and deeper. Many of the Lakers were chock full of gobies as well.
  10. Yes I knew all about that, my captain was pretty pissed about it. We were fishing about 20 miles north of the river north of the power plant
  11. I got 250 lb power pro this year, and admittedly this is based on limited experience, but wow do I like it!! The releases slide right down without any problem
  12. You are really really good at what you do. Caught a few Browns on the sticks you painted for me!
  13. I had maybe 6 hits on spoons, riggers 4-8 down and 60 back
  14. How far back in the prop wash with the Cleo?
  15. I saw you out there motion. Sounds like a pretty similar story. I was getting short hit to death today, not sure why?
  16. We finally did our shake down run today. We got a late start, mostly because it was so freaking cold this morning. Put the boat in the water at about 930, and after a brief bit of screwing around decided we were good to go. We started fishing at ~10. We set down at the trailer park and worked our way west. We didn't have a single hit until we got just passed Boller point, then it was game on. A lot of short hits today and a lot of small fish. There were 2 distinct mud lines- we worked the 2nd one that was in 10-20 fow. Most of our hits came off boards with sticks... Kinda weird but natural stuff did the damage, despite how murky the water was. Ended up 10/18. Had several doubles and a triple. Surprisingly good action considering the time of day we fished. We picked fish all the way back from Dufloo rd to maxwell (despite the fact we took nothing there on the way through earlier)
  17. Sounds like the bait data collection methods are pretty sound. They do simultaneous nettings in many different areas of the lake from the niagara to the st Lawrence fab in depths from 20 to 600 feet. In fact, they have added a few more netting areas to make the data more complete. I'll be very anxious to see the results. They do the nettings starting April 18th
  18. Thanks Doug. If you ever get the itch to go out let me know, I'd love to have you (and pick your brain!)
  19. Lol. There is that. I was talking starting next week
  20. Like leaving it in? Cause that's what I want to do
  21. I'm curious- when does everyone launch for the year? With the bay being completely clear and my boat being completely ready (for once) I am really itching to get her in the slip. I have been checking the extended forecast and see no temps below ~31. I know a lot of charters do April 1 as a target... Am I nuts for wanting in?
  22. Pick a guy and he can usually find another good charter to work with
