We did a trip out of Sodus this morning. Left the dock at about six, and motored pretty far to the west, as I heard there was a better bite that way. We started and about 7 feet of water off of Boulder point, and headed west from there. The brown bite was pretty slow this morning.... we did manage three fish, all on a flatlined perch stick bait. We did find some decent quality, with Two real nice browns, and one small Coho, with a few more knock offs. Best action was near Hughes. Interestingly, all of my fish came on the outside of turns, Usually in about 20 feet of water, so I worked that pretty hard later in the morning with nothing to show. We slid outside to try to conjure up some lake trout at about 11, but even those weren't cooperating today. I don't think I've ever not caught a lake trout when I was targeting them. Weird. Yeah, there is no talk about tax breaks.... Or really any break at all for anyone except the landowners who rent out their property for these monstrosities... We went fishing north of 3rd creek Sunday. We set a line of tip ups from 6-21 fow, and then sat jigging in 18-20 fow for perch. Probably ended up with 15-20 perch, but all dinks, almost exclusively coming on spikes. We did manage 2 pike hits, the first coming about 15 down in 20 fow on a Swedish pimple (what a ride with my light perch rod!) that I lost at the hole. I had big plans to fish both days this weekend. With the big blow, I figured temps would be deep, so I rigged everything up with that in mind... On Saturday, we set up at 6 am in 100 fow and dropped the probe to the bottom, only to find 75 degree water.... So we pointed her north. As we worked out it got rougher and rougher, and we had no marks and no temp until we passed 260 fow. I was running my probe 120-130 down and temp ranged from 62-64. I ran a very simple set up of 3 riggers 120-140 down and dipseys 330-380. We took 6 shots, but only boated 2 2 year old kings, and missed a few decent ones. We had a terrible time with getting out rigs tangled with the big waves and current. We finally have up at 11:30 after taking all the abuse we could out there. The hits all came in 240-300 fow. All but one hit came on mag moonshine spoons- my flasher fly and meat rotted all day. On Sunday, we has big plans to run right out deep, only to be greeted with big wind and big waves. We waited to go out until about 12. We set up in 200 fow, and once we passed 260 we took 5 shots in an hour (between 12:15 and 1:15) on a nicer class of salmon, up to 23 lbs. all came on mag glow moonshine spoons, and again my dipseys with flasher fly and meat rotted. Te screen looked great from 280-400 down 110-150. Unfortunately I think we got the tail end of the bite because we would not take another shot after 2, and we gave up at 4:30.
