Your Name / Boat Name: continuity fish doctor Date(s): 6/30 Time on Water: 5:30-11 Weather/Temp: warm and nice Wind Speed/Direction: w Sw 5-10 Waves: 1 Surface Temp: 66 Location: 1-2 miles east =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 11 Total Boated: 6 Species Breakdown: kings mostly, 2 over 23 lbs, the rest 7-18 Hot Lure: mag uv. Moonshine, white stinger dodger atomik fly and meat Trolling Speed: 2-2.5 Boat Depth: 150-220 Lure Depth: 90-130 down ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Very nice and productive day in sodus. A mature king bite mostly, and man are they colored up already. We started in100 fow but the down temp was waaaaaaaay too warm down to 130 down until we reached 150. First king came on white dodger green fly on 330 dipsey, which would take several more fish including a steely. Otherwise a stready pick, mostly in 200-220 fow. We worked 57-58 west pretty hard. The rest of our hits were on a mag uv moonshine and meat, all mature kings but 2. We had trouble keeping them stuck. Fleas weren't terrible.... overall a nice nice day. There is a good class of fish around, took two just shy of 24 lbs!! See you out there in 2 weeks. Will post pics once I figure out how on my iPhone [ Post made via iPhone ]

Way to go Steve! We should get together sometime soon! [ Post made via iPhone ] -
Waiting for the thermalcline to set up. They do this every year but usually it is end of June. We need a long stretch of stable weather, preferrably a west wind. They are just completely scattered right now. [ Post made via iPhone ]

Thanks guys. That definitely helps. Any else find that the coated cable is weaker or more susceptible to kinking? [ Post made via iPhone ]

Wouldn't get too fancy- the less connections the better. The knot I use is very simple to connect core to backing or leader. Pull the coating back about 6 inches, cut the lead, and thread the leader into the space that the lead used to occupy and tie a knot. Forget what the knot is called but super easy. A 20-50 foot floro leader is plenty [ Post made via iPhone ]

Well, this weekend I had the privilege of losing my first downrigger ball, along with the subtroll probe.... so I retied with my thimble and crimps on the same rigger/coated wire and proceeded to lose my second ball about 5 minutes later. I have been fishing for 10 years and never lost a ball.... EVER. Finally figured out that my coated cable was shot and replaced the entire spool. There is about $250 sitting in about 30 FOW in front of the old lighthouse in sodus for any divers out there! This brought up an important question though. Since I no longer trust the thimble/crimp method, what is best for a connection- cannon or klincher? I want to know for my temp probe (subtroll) rigger specifically... but general comments welcome. Thanks guys

Your Name / Boat Name: continuity/fish doctor TRIP OVERVIEW Date(s):6/2 Time on Water: 6-11 Weather/Temp: cool, sunny, nice Wind Speed/Direction: light s wind Waves: none!?!? Surface Temp: 56 FISHING RESULTS Total Hits: 20 Total Boated: 12 Species Breakdown: mostly lakers, steel, 1 king Hot Lure: whatever... Spoons, flashers, cowbells Boat Depth: 90-270 Lure Depth: 70-150 down, top lines ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Interesting day out of sodus. Went out expecting a short rough trip only to be greeted by flat calm. Absolute pandemonium on lakers in 95-140 fow. They were all over the screen and taking any and everything. After 2 hours of nonstop action we slid out deeper (mostly for a breather) We did manage one king bite that we lost 20 foot behind the boat on a 270 dipsey with white ff in 200 fow, also had a few shots on red spoons on top. I am by no means a guy who likes to catch lakers, and usually avoid them, but it was unreal. Basically fished with one rigger for 2 hours straight with One after the other. They fill my time nicely with the transition (and after that big ass blow yesterday). I betcha that brown bite will get going again with the west wind... And with the crazy amount of bait in 200+fow that is looking promising too! Back at it in 2 weeks. Good luck out there [ Post made via iPhone ]

Guys, I know we may have covered this before but a quick search didnt get me what I was looking for... What does everyone prefer for downrigger balls- ie weight as well as shape (ie shark vs torpedo vs cannonball)? I have scottys, and a coated cable and speed temp on one side. That side has a ton of blowback with my 12 lb ball and I doubt I am getting down as far as I want. I am also interested in chasing those marks down 140-160. I want to upgrade to 14 lb cannonballs at least- But I was interested to hear your preferences? What does everyone use? My big concern is spinning on letdown and retrieve and tracking funny. Those scottys are FAST so the fins and stuff scare me... I have ALWAYS run cannonballs but am willing to try something else if it works... Thanks in advance!

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: continuity fish doctor Date(s): 5/26 Time on Water: 6-11 Weather/Temp: nice and calm Wind Speed/Direction: none Waves: none Surface Temp: 53 (cccold) Location: west to boller =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 5 Total Boated: 3 Species Breakdown: all browns Hot Lure: small stingers, mostly green Boat Depth: 30-60 Lure Depth: 30-45, 70 dipsey, 10 color core ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== I wanted to stick it out on browns this so I did. Finally found them in about40-50 fow and had good action from 7-8:20 and then the sun came up and the fish stopped biting. Nice fat fish and TONS of bait everywhere. I speared a 7 inch alewife accidentally. Where are the freaking steelhead? If you want lakers there are plenty in 120 fow, I wasn't in the mood today though. Pray for north and west wind to get out temp back to normal again!! Good luck out there this weekend, I am done till next weekend! Abe [ Post made via iPhone ]

A Funny Thing Happened on My Way Out Yesterday

The other day I netted a big bunch of balloons and had a 20 lb king hit literally 30 seconds later. Karma can be your friend- you will be rewarded for your efforts ! [ Post made via iPhone ]
