Your Name / Boat Name: continuity/fish doctor ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 5/19 Time on Water: 5:30-11 Weather/Temp: warm n sunny Wind Speed/Direction: none!!! Waves: none!!!! Surface Temp: 53 Location: maxwell to past boller pt ============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 12 Total Boated: 8 Species Breakdown: browns salmon and lakers Hot Lure: sticks, white dodger green fly and cowbells Trolling Speed: 1.75-2 Boat Depth: 30-110 Lure Depth: surface, 70-100 down ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Nice nice day on sodus today. Started by working 20-40 fow for browns with only a few to show, so worked out deeper. When we hit 90 fow all hell broke loose on lakers (5 in 15 minutes). After that a slow pic, with a few salmon goes on dipseys and white flashers back 240-260. The screen looked really good 90-110 fow with big hooks on the screen 60-90 down. Lots and lots of bait on the bottom 60-70 fow, which was nice to see too. The middle range brown bite is about to set up I think Back in a few weeks. Good luck everyone! Abe [ Post made via iPhone ]

Your Name / Boat Name: COntinuity/Fish Doctor Date(s): 5/10 Time on Water: 6-9:30 Weather/Temp: COLD COLD COLD (again!) Wind Speed/Direction: NW 15+ (again!!) Waves: 2s building to 3-4++ (again!!!) Total Hits: 3 Total Boated:1 Species Breakdown: Laker for sure, ? coho Hot Lure: Small stingers Trolling Speed: between 1-3- oh and riding with the waves at low idle was popping my dipseys Down Speed: Boat Depth: 100-140 Lure Depth: 30-80 rigger, 90 dipsey, 10 color core First of all what is with the friggin weather? When I got out it wasnt too bad- 2 foot waves or so, but did that change quickly!! This is my third consecutive trip coming in on 4s and 5s! I was going so fast trolling with it that my dipseys were popping, and I was idled down! And boy does that stiff 15-20 NW wind feel great when it is 40 degrees! First fish was a laker on a 30 foot rigger. the next hit was a coho on a 10 color core with a green stinger that we lost with 1 color left out. Last hit was on the 90 dipsey. I was seeing fish 60-90 down, and ran stuff through them all day with no hits down there. Some useful stuff I can tell you from this poor showing: 1. The fish are no longer inside- I trolled through 30-90 feet on my way in and out with nothing to show for it 2. There are fish from 110-130 FOW, and as deep as 170 from what I heard 3. I was marking fish down low and nothing was hitting, and I was marking nothing up high and that is where all my hits came from 4. The lake can be miserable! Back at it in a few weeks! Abe

A charter on Erie told me that big lakers are a nuicance there at times. They catch some pig lakers in Erie. In fact I believe that the nys record is from erie? [ Post made via iPhone ] -

For what it is worth my action has been 1.7-2 on the down speed... Maybe you were going a bit fast for them. Usually 2-2.5 is best but the last 2 weeks they have wanted it slow?!? [ Post made via iPhone ] -
Sodus 5/5/12

I wanted to run 2 lead core and maybe a copper but didn't dare- even though that was my most productive stuff. Those waves really limit your game plan. [ Post made via iPhone ] -
Your Name / Boat Name: Continuity/Fish Doctor Date(s): 5/5/12 Time on Water: 6-9:40 am Weather/Temp: cold, windy, cloudy Wind Speed/Direction: N-NE 10+ Waves: 2-4s, occasional 5s! Surface Temp: 46-48 Total Hits: 11 Total Boated: 6 Species Breakdown: 1 brown, 1 laker, the rest kings 10-15 lbs Hot Lure: small stingers, mag black spoon, dirty white boy Trolling Speed: ???? 1-3 depending on the direction Boat Depth: 50-90 was best Lure Depth: 40-50 rigger, 90-140 dipsey, 10 color leadcore ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Another beautiful (read crappy) day on Lake O- I dont know if my tape measure is the same as NOAA but those were not 1-3s (more like 2-4++) We got our butts whipped again today and really had to work for our fish. Good king bite out of sodus again. Good action from 30-60 down, all spoons. My dipseys and 10 color leadcore were best. I was just a bit east of the channel and had a nice pod of fish there. I had trouble keeping the kings buttoned with 3+ foot waves and beginners on the rod. Man are the kings active this time of year- they were mostly teenagers, ranging 10-15 lbs. Had several screamers on that we missed... Action wise I have no complaints, but it would be nice to actually fish 1-2 footers like they keep calling for!

Your Name / Boat Name: COntinuity/Fish Doctor Date(s): 4/29/12 Time on Water: 6:30-10 Weather/Temp: CCCCCCCCCCCOLD and windy Wind Speed/Direction: 10-15 NW Waves: 1-2 building to 3+ Location: from the channel to Lake Bluff =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 7 Total Boated:7 Species Breakdown: 2 kings, 1 atlantic (27") and the remainder lakers Hot Lure: small glow stingers and a mag dirt white boy Trolling Speed: all over the darn place, I tried to keep it at 2 Boat Depth: 50-80 Lure Depth: 30-60 down, dipsey at 90, 10 color core Another decent day out of Sodus today. We had to work for them WAAAAAAY harder today. They were in the same general area, but there were less kings around sadly. We did manage 2 kings (1 pushing 18 lbs) and and atlantic to go with our lakers. The fish were east, but I didnt dare go too far with the building seas. By 10 I had had enough and we packed it in. The wave report was way off.... those were not 1-2s out there. The 30 something degree 15 MPH NW wind didnt help either. Sounds like the shark population is moving east, with the waves...

Your Name / Boat Name: Continuity/Fish Doctor ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 4/28/12 Time on Water: 6-10 am Weather/Temp: COLD- sunny Wind Speed/Direction: NW 10 Waves: 2-4 subsiding to ~2 Surface Temp: 45-47 =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 12 Total Boated: 9 Species Breakdown: 2 browns, 2 lakers, 1 coho, the rest kings Hot Lure: small glow stingers and a mag dirty white boy Boat Depth: 30-80 Lure Depth: 30-50, 90 dipseys ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Wow! Great day in sodus. Started in shore for browns, but the water was almost TOO muddy so we only pulled 1 out of there in the first 1.5 hours. Sooo we moved out to 30-70 FOW and man was it game on. Very good action on a mix of browns, lakers and kings from 30-50 down with small spoons. The kings were good sized- teens mostly with one topping 20 lbs. It was my brother's first time going for trout/salmon and he was LOVING it. Great to see the kings out in force so early. Plan to be back out again tomorrow am!!

Careful with the mouth color of salmon. Kings have black mouths, coho have white mouths- not sure about atlantics? Anyone? [ Post made via iPhone ]

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Continuity/Fish Doctor Date(s): 4/21/12 Time on Water: 6-10 am Weather/Temp: cold, rainy... Yuck Wind Speed/Direction:S then NW wind 10 Waves: 1 building to 2+ Surface Temp: 50 close, 47 out deeper Location: chute to 3 miles west Total Hits: 7 Total Boated:5 Species Breakdown: 2 browns first, then the rest lakers Hot Lure: glow stingers, mag green glows Boat Depth: started 10-20, then worked 60-100 Lure Depth: 20-70 down ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== FInally got the boat in the water for our shakedown cruise. We started on the shoreline but I was about #6 in the parade, so not many browns left for me. We did have 2 browns hit between 10 and 30 FOW. The water was still pretty clear, so we moved out to 60-100 FOW. The deeper water was mostly a laker bite down 90 on dipseys and 30-70 on riggers with spoons. We worked in front of the trailer park to past maxwell, 70-80 FOW seemed to be our best. I heard of a few kings around but none for me today... The weather was CRAPPY and my hands were numb so I called it at 10. Overall not a bad first trip, boat worked great. Maybe out tomorrow if the noreaster can hold off until midday! See you guys out there! Abe

New to Spring Brown trolling
rdebadts replied to wet the net's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Stealth is the key. Flat lines straight back do work but the further out away you can go and the wider the spread the better. Light line is key I learned too ( 10-14 lb test is plenty). I HATE inline planers, much prefer the planer boards on a release... You can get a used board and a spool of the planer board line for dirt cheap. Before I had the fancy stuff I literally let it out and in by hand and tied it to the rail of the boat. But remember in 5 fow those fish can be spooky so getting stuff away from the boat is big [ Post made via iPhone ] -
Trolling for Spring Steelhead
rdebadts replied to Homer Is King's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
All of the fish will be in 20 fow or less, usually in front of or near warm water discharges (ie bays and streams). They will congregate in warmer, more stained water so look for that. Flatlining or using planers is good but use light line. As far as baits, sticks and small spoons are perfect. Use bright stuff in murky water and more realistic stuff in clear water. From now until late April is prime time for guys with small boats because the fish are conentrated and are so accessible. Hope that helps [ Post made via iPhone ]
