  1. Thanks for the info, we were running between 1.8 -3.0 s o g, don't usually have to go that slow to trigger a strike. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  2. We were out there also, but could not move a rod. We saw the bait on the west side also, was using flasher flies and were down from 100-150 with the riggers. What was your speed? Did direction matter? [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  3. Since we've talked about the stocking programs of other lakes I thought I would chime in on the shape of Canandaigua's fishery. I went down to Woodville yesterday to see the weight in for the Avon Anglers Derby, for 2 reasons. The main reason to see the state of the fishery and curious to where and what they were catching them on! Two my surprise the fisherman were slightly tight lipped, but brought in some good fish. The winning fish was just over 11lb with 2nd and 3rd in the 10+, with several in the 7-9 lb range. There were 26 fisherman with roughly 7-10 boats. they weighed in 16 fish. The thing that surprised me was that out the 16 weighed in and the 25 or so fish I saw, only 1 was a stocked fish, which was a 9lber. BTW all fish were lake trout, and they were all FAT, healthy looking with fish. It should not surprise me though, I keep a log for the DEC and I think in the past 2 years have only caught 3 or 4 stocked fish. And as for Rainbows, back in the late 90's to early 2000 we were catching good number of rainbows with many in the 5-7 lb range, then things declined in the mid to late 2000's but the last 2 years have really picked up again. Last year in the Canandaigua derby we caught around 30 and a buddy of mind caught around 40, all of which were successfully released, none were over 4lbs but was really good to see. IMHO I think Canadaigua is doing well, the rainbows are reproducing well, Lakers are thriving, and some monster browns live there too! I am in favor of the 1 rainbow limit, and raising the lake trout take, I think it would make Canandaigua the best Lake around to catch some nice bows, not that it isn't already! Could not get a real report from any of the fisherman except deep, using spoons, and no bait.
  4. Blueghost we made the video also. 1st day sampson with laker and a landlock. Laker was 4th. In juvenile div. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  5. It should be the weekend after the Seneca Derby! Blueghost, you have to fish it to place! Better yet stay home so I don't have to fight you for our east west troll!
  6. Just got inside scoop of the new format for the Canandaigua Derby. top 3 biggest fish any (LT, BT, or RT) 1. $1000 2. $750 3. $500 Laketrout 1. 250 2. 150 3. 75 Brown 1. 250 2. 150 3. 75 Rainbow 1. 250 2. 150 3. 75 2nd and 3rd place for LT, BT, and RT maybe different, The guy told me as I was leaving a club meeting. I think the new format is much better!
  7. small on the yellow and caught on laker on a big black and silver. Kevin, the fish were right where we found them the last time I saw you on the north end but just could not get anything going.
  8. Got out on Canandaigua started fishing the north east side with good bait and fish but couldn't get any hookups. trolled south with one small laker on a black/silver evil eye by the Condo's. crossed the lake to Vine Valley about 11 and got into some active Rainbows. Ended up with 6 rainbows and 2 lakers, nothing big but good fighters! The strange part is that the fish were all taken from 90-120 down over 120-150 fow. All rainbows came on a yellow evil eye. I was running 4 of at one time and had 2 doubles. Had to leave at 1:30 or I think we could of caught fish for the rest of the day!
  9. The white deer were actually imported from Russia sometime back in the 60's I believe by some of the commanding officers for their own and their "friends" hunting pleasure. the deer are white deer and not albino. The guy who is telling you that the brown bucks in there are small is only seeing the small ones. I have a friend who worked in the depot since Vietnam and there has been many monsters taken out of there. you don't here about them because they were taken inside a fence and don't qualify for the books. I see a big buck or two there every year from 96 on my way to Sampson.
  10. Blueghost, I'll be out with on my on Sunday showing him so things on trolling. Keep your radio on, I'll give you a call.
  11. meet up with Pete Collin today. He agreed to teach me how to jig and I would show him my spots and program the following weekend. We started on the south end and had to search for fish for the first hour or so. Finally found some active fish the action was pretty steady for a couple of hours. jigging was a good break from trolling and had a great time meeting Pete and learning the jig! we fished from 6-1 and landed 9 lakers all good fish with 3-4 at 27", and the final fish Pete brought in a smallie tipping the scale at 4 lbs. I also lost one we believe to be a real good rainbow. We were marking some suspended fish and Pete told me to retrieve through them. I retrieved to where I thought would be, dropped a couple of feet and WHAM! this fish started ripping line out one way and then the next and then one more towards the drift bags as it appeared to be heading towards the surface, then snap, the line broke! Very glad Pete showed me the technique and am excited to try it again. Also saw FLXtroutman out there, Mike Pete said your boat looks bigger in the pictures! Sorry to hear your having problems.
  12. that's a true crew mate! glad everything worked out.
  13. nice fish! the north end is starting to heat up!
  14. Tom, great mixed bag! Looks like a nice little rig you got there too!
  15. Great fish! Hey I tried calling you on the radio with no answer. I knew you would be on the south end and when the lakers weren't hitting by 8 I tried to call you because I knew they would be on the south end! I thought about making the run but the bows were keeping me busy, along with snapped downrigger cable and fish tangling lines! Good job!
  16. Fished the north end of lake today with a good Rainbow bite first thing. we fished all over the north end with most fish coming between the dragon wall and German brothers. we went 8-11 with 7 bows and 1 laker. no big fish today but all were in the 18-21" range. nothing in any of there belly's either. very surprised with all the bait we marked. could not get the lakers on the north end to hit. bows were hitting the white sd/ blue/white fly parked at 44 and also blue/silver r&r spoon on the slider of the rigger parked at 52. give the north end a week or two and the action should really pick up.
  17. Hey Kevin! We never made it out Monday due to Sunday night festivities at our family reunion! I was out earlier in the week and tried that spot but found more active fish a little further south, but still making the east west troll. We'll be out there this weekend, my buddy puts on a 1 day derby out of Don's bar in Canandaigua. Let me know if your going to be out there.
  18. Mike, nice to see you dialing in on those bows. This has been the best year I've had on Canandaigua for bows in about 10-12 years!
  19. Fished Wed afternoon to try out some new downrigger balls. fished from 1:30 -3:00. Caught one 2 rainbows, one just over 5lbs. fished the middle of the lake around Pelican point Marina. One rain bow on the slider with the ball parked a 70 and the other on the wire out 175 with sd/fly. 9/2 got out at 6am and fished till 8:15 and landed 4 lakers all in the 20-22" range. fished the north end, found lots of bait on the bottom in 85fow. 2 lakers on the wire and 2 on sutton 44 and 71. lots of marks in the 150-200 fow 60-100 down but just could get anything going so thats when I went in to 85fow. 9/3 fished from 6:30-10 went 4 for 6 with a line screamer lost shortly after the rod exchange, lakers were from 18"-25" and not one of them I knew I had on. started in the 85fow on the north end and all the bait was gone. I didn't spend much time looking for it though. moved out to the middle and fished the 175-200 fow of tons of marks again in the 60-100 range. fish on the riggers were 80-90 down and the wire set at 215. The fish must getting ready to spawn, not one release the downrigger of even tripped the dipsey. each one just felt like weeds. nothing in any of there stomachs either. btw the fleas were back and lots of weeds!
  20. Nice report lakertaker! Hey that pic looks a lot like a Salmon, especially with the "x" markings on it.
  21. the bait seems to be in the middle of the lake from 25-45 down. try deep water and running from 40-70 down. the bows will hit the sd/flys too. all our fish last weekend were in that range. the bow we caught came on the deepest rigger i had set at 80.
  22. if that's an invite you just let know. I just don't have any rods set up for the big lake to go myself. We'll for sure see you in the fall out there. They were set up very similar to late Sept to Oct fishing. Fleas were almost non existent too!
  23. Finally got out to Canandaigua for the first time since June 7. Got out with my grandpa who lives on the lake but never seems to find time to go fishing. Kind of a bummer since he has a nice 22' sportcraft with 4 mag 10's on it. Anyways we headed out around 7 and fished till 11. We fished the north end and ended up 7 for 7. We fished mostly from deep run to pump house to german brothers, just keep making circles. No dipsies today, just riggers, all fish on SD/fly. Could not get a hit on sticks or spoons. good schools of bait in the middle of the lake from 20-40 down but just could not get anything going. All fish came from 70- 80 foot down, including a 7lb rainbow that had to be netted twice. when we were netting him he actually jumped out of the net as we raised him out of the water, never had that happen before! All lakers were great fighters and measured from 22-27 inches.
  24. Great job lakebound! Glad to see some fish from seneca finally show up on the board. We also fished Seneca out of Sampson. Enjoyed hearing you guys on the radio, I was feeling the excitement with ya! Got to meet up with Justin and Rich at Sampson, always nice to put a face with a name, to share stories and tips! We also had a good weekend with a 20 something on Sat and 10 on Sunday. All lakers were in the 7-9 lb range except for the first 2 on Sun. only 2 lampreys with the other fish clean. one of the lampreys was on a 2 lb Landlock.
  25. Bob, I was there about 15 years ago on a family fishing trip. We were fishing for walleyes and caught a ton. We jigged during the day and trolled at night. We caught some real nice fish. It's a beautiful lake with small coves that I bet would be great for bass. There were only about 10 cabins for rent, a small store and few campers when we went. Now it has really grown. I don't know if the same people own it now but they were great. I would recommend it to anyone, especially for the walleyes. If you go and have kids, there is a great place to go swimming. When leaving the docks and heading up the lake, I don't remember the direction, the camp is at the end of the lake though, when you make the first bend to the right, there is a rock on the right sticking out of the water about 20 foot with a flat edge and the water is about 10-15 deep and the other side is sloped so you can walk up. It's great for jumping off, and on the back side you can pull you boat up into some soft gravel, and walk up the sloped side of the rock.
