WOW!!! Thats one you'll never forget! -
I have never had good luck with any type of cowbells/flashers on this lake.

Finally downloaded some pics from the derby, and thought I would share. The landlock (7.14) and the laker (8.53) were both caught by my 8 yr old crew mate for 2 years, Dylan is the Son of a buddy that's fished with for years. Dylan placed 4th in the JV with the laker and knocked off the board the last morning with the landlock. Here are some pics of the fish and crew

just checking to see who is fishing in the derby this weekend. It should be interesting, only been on the lake twice this year and that was back in April!
-
So that was you guys I could hear from the shower house Sunday night! Sounded like a good time!
-
Congrats Kevin! Don't know if you realized who I was at the ceremony or not. As for the landlocks, I had only caught one ever on that lake till this year. We landed about 25 landlocks with the biggest 7.14 which dropped off the board the last 2 hours of the derby. I can't believe how big the landlocks were! We also landed about 25 lakers with the biggest 8.53 which placed 4th in the jv division. most of the lakers were also in the 7+ range. Seemed like every time I talked to Kevin we hooked up, next year I'll be calling you more! Good time this year, wished I could of meet more of you, after getting off the boat each day I just wanted to sleep. No Canopy and all that sun did a number on me.

hey sgtstalker, try using smaller spoons and try to stay away from anything with too much silver. suttons have not been working very well for me. it was a much better spoon bite for me on Sunday also. If you've been out with blueghost, i'm sure he's taught you some tricks and secrets!!! Good luck, see you at Sampson site 311 or 310, can't remember my buddy reserved it.

that why I find this lake so frustrating. The water temp is warmer than Seneca, I'm sure the bait is on shore, But you can't get them to hit. FLX you could out the very next day and slam em, at least that's how this lake has treated me.
-
water temps were 49 around belhurt and dropped to 46 around Kasong

Got out today with one of my crew mates for the derby and his father who's health is failing. fished mostly the north end from 6-11 and landed 2 rainbows, 2, browns, 1 landlock and lost count of all the lakers. fished from 20-150 fow and caught fish in all depths and everything we put in the water, it was just one of those days! No big ones, saving them for next week It was just great to have my buddy's dad get out, maybe for the last time, and to have a day like today was like it was meant to be.
-
We'll also be out of Sampson, on channel 68. Blue and gray i/o Lund.
-
no, i was on the north end, and it was not a hard top.
-
I'm sure how familiar you are with this lake, but try straight across the lake in the 90-50fow with j9's and black/green smaller lures in the morning. should find a rainbow or two mixed in with some lakers. should be able to catch em on the boards right tight to shore in the next week or so.

BG, we were out there Sunday too, I was looking for, should of tried the radio. If it makes you feel better we were cut off about 3 times on the east side! The first one was a guy coming from the northwest, drove right in the front the boat turned north and started dropping lines . Not only that, but he was trolling so slow I had to actually troll around him, he was in a trophy all by himself. We made our first past and caught a few fish in front of a couple still fisherman and on the next past they all moved in right in my path. It almost seemed like there was a derby by all the boats and rude boaters. Anyways now for the report. We started around 7:30 on the west side with tons of bait and fish in the 75-60fow with only a very large fish lost at the back of the boat. Around 9:30 crossed the lake south of high banks and had a double as soon as i fihsed rigging the second rigger. Most fish caught in the 35fow range on spoons, not one release on the boards. moved out to 70 with wire/sd/fly and landed a few more. quit fishing by 11:15 with 8 lakers, 2 in the 8lb+ range. I let my dad catch everyone since he will not be in the derby. Can't wait to see everyone at Sampson!
-
not really...the fish in seneca are still also. Wait till the surface temp is over 50-52, they'll be there.
-
Thanks Kevin! I really don't remember the water temp, I was busy teaching a buddy what I was doing and why. Now he thinks were suppose to catch big fish every trip! I'm pretty sure around Belhurst before the drop it was 47-49 and south I think was around 46. Another couple of degrees and it'll be good!

great looking fish! if that doesn't hook your nephew, nothing will!!!

We launched at the Chamber. First a guy at the launch ask me to rescue his RC place that stalled and was floating away. should of asked how big it was before heading a 1/2 to get it and finding out it had a 7 1/2 foot wingspan!

Broke away from the yard work for a short trip Sat afternoon. Got on the water about 5:30 and fished the west side north end. tried the 160 fow with few marks and 2 for 3. Moved into about 100-110 fow and found some fish. went 4 for 6 with one tipping 10lbs and 2 in the 7-8 lb range. Mountain dew with BW original fly on the wire out 300' took all hits except one on a yellow spoon off the rigger set at 30'.

Canandaigua 04/25 South End - PIC ADDED
cdgn troller replied to fireplug's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
huntin' trout, pretty much the same tactics work on this lake as Seneca. this lake is hot and cold for me though, but when there on there on, and they are some of the best looking trout in the finger lakes! if i was to go to Canandaigua lake this weekend I would fish in the 90 - 120 fow with my boards toward shore with j9's or small spoons and the riggers in the bottom third of the water column. a couple of weeks ago there was a lot of bait around the white area. in a couple of weeks you'll be able to run in the 50-60 fow with the boards on shore and you'll have days when you just slam em! I like the north end starting from the end of this month right through the summer. -
Fished out of Keuka state park. Fished further south towards the bluff this time. Fish were on fire all day. We were out at 6 and by 8 I lost count at 15 or so. the fish were also good size, 20-24" and nothing smaller than a 3.5lb with the biggest 6lbs. fish 100-130 fow till about 10 when the bite slowed, and then middle of the lake 160-165 fow. we had the riggers parked at 100 and 85 with sd/fly till they just turned off at 10, finally had a chance to get the wire rods in and the action started all over again. we set the wire at 250 and 200. white was the hottest color with anything with blue and green second. we ended up with somewhere in the 30-40 fish range with about 10 lost and a very big fish broke off 75 feet behind the boat. not bad for 2 guys and manual downriggers! my arms are tired today.

there was a guy catching lakers on sunday right from the boat launch at Keuka state park. He was using a jig with gray and white 4-6" shad looking rubber body.
