  1. Avon anglers are hosting a trout derby on Keuka Lake this weekend. Sign is at the Keuka State park starting at 6am, weigh in is a 2pm at the park
  2. fished from 1:30 to 4:30, 9 for 10. Caught 8 lakers and a landlock. biggest laker about 4.5. Most fish came down deep 80-110 over 140-150 fow. most on sd/ white fly, and a few on sd/bigweenie fly. we did have 3 fish on the top lines, 2 lakers and the landlock, all on rapalas. never even put a spoon in the water. we fished the branchport finger east side. lots of fish on the bottom, but no bait. there was a guy at the launch catching lakers casting a jig. i watched him catch 2 while we were loading the boat. he said he caught about 10 small mouths and a few lakers.
  3. if we go to Seneca, we'll probably launch out of Sampson, and head south. Fish seem to be on the East side right now. I'll give ya a call if we make it.
  4. I hope so, but we'll see what mother nature brings. Probably go to Seneca, or the south end of Canandaigua!
  5. Fished in the Avon Anglers derby on Sat. We fished the south end. Bait and fish were stacked up the east side anywhere from 75 to 150 fow, blank screen on the west side. The fish were not very active though. Talking to some guys at the launch, they were catching from 1 to 5 fish. We ended up with 4, 2 browns and 2 rainbows. both rainbows came on the top lines in the morning, and the browns came on the sd fly right on the bottom in 75-100 fow. We missed twice that many, had a couple of rookies i was trying to teach for future crew mates! The winning fish were 11.6 brown, 11.4 brown, and I think a 6 or 7lb lake trout. The browns were all taken on the south end around the white rock. if your looking for browns and bows, this weekend should be hot on the south end. The bows were tight to shore on top lines.
  6. Well i don't have any good fishing reports to give anybody. Today was the first trip of the year, all equipment work great, water level was good. We launched out of Seneca state park. marked fish on the east side at the high banks from 65 to 125 fow but could not get a single rod to fire. threw everything at them, I have never been skunked on this lake before, didn't do much for the ego! Hooked up with Blueghost on the radio and met them at the launch. It's always good to put a face with a name. At least they caught a few fish! All in all it was great to be on the water again, hope see some of you out there soon.
  7. Just found out the derby is June 5th and 6th.
  8. BG, see you there! channel 68
  9. Plan on getting out this weekend for the first time. Anybody try the north end of Seneca yet? Just wondering how the water level is for launching in the chamber or the state park. I've got an i/o and I know it's usually shallow at the chamber. Also how is the fishing on the north end now? Or I may go Canandaigua. How's the state launch there on the north end now?
  10. I guess they did not make a final decision but it is most likely going to be the 5th and 6th.
  11. I use a lot of crank baits between the middle of May till the 2nd week of June, in 20-30 fow. Always have good luck with Rapala's j-9 and smaller.
  12. I was loosing a lot of fish until I started using snubbers.
  13. I just heard that they have not decided on which weekend. They are actually leaning towards the 5th and 6th of June. It always use to be the weekend after the Seneca Derby, the past few years they changed it to 2 weeks after. They have their meeting this Friday and I will let everyone know what the date is.
  14. I believe it's June 12 and 13th. I'll double check, I know someone on the board.
  15. how do the pancake weights compare?
  16. I second the i/o comment!!!
  17. Blueghost....yea those were good times! But you know the spring action on Seneca is awesome. I tried to talk FLX (mike) to get in this derby, but he seems content with sticking to Canandaigua. You gonna make the trip to the north everyday? I think we will the first day, but I don't think I have enough gas cans to keep filling the boat to do it everyday! For such a small boat it uses alot of gas!!!
  18. finally found out our campsite, 311. So I'm sure we'll be getting together for a beer and a few fish stories! can't wait!
  19. I cant believe we're already talking about the derby! FYI, I cant wait either! We also will camping at Sampson this year. One of my partners bought a camper and said he already reserved a spot. Blue lund, on 68, ca troller!
  20. I also think this a good idea. The catch and release is a great idea especially if it extends to different lakes. My home lake is Canandaigua and i know a few others on the LOU is there's too. Don't know how the this would work unless you could fish from a list of lakes on the days scheduled for the league. Just a thought.
  21. this is just my opinion so I hope that I don't affend anyone. I hunt in three areas. the 1st in gorham, ny. My family has owned a 140 acre farm that i have hunted my whole life. in the past 5 years the deer herd is WAY down. we used to see 10-15 deer a day bow hunting and the same on openeing day of gun season. this year I saw 1 6pt, 1 4pt and 6 does the whole season there. we have a local guy who hunts the coyotes heavy. (killed around 40 dogs last year in this area) so i know we have a dog problem but at lease someone is doing something about it. he also said he checked the a few of the females for how many pups they had, and not one had less than 8 pups in her, scary! but i still fell the main problem in this area and many areas in 8J is we have lots of horse and buggy families with lots of kids and LOTS of tags. If i remember right, these families came from PA where there herd is in terrible shape. don't get me wrong, they are nice people, but they kill alot of deer and not just during the season. I also hunt in middlesex. there are more deer then gorham but still not like it use to be, and there are way coyotes then in gorham. at least the tracks in the woods tells me so. the last place i hunt is in Monterey on state land. we have had a camp there for about 15 years. also in the past 5 years the hunting has seriously declined. our camp of about 10 hunters harvested just 4 does. but the coyotes are everywhere. I was down there last weekend and i have never seen so many coyotes tracks. everywhere we went the dog tracks out number the deer tracks about 3 to 1. it was very depressing seeing so many dog tracks. all in all the coyotes are doing more damage than people think, and with the number of pups they have its only going to get worst fast!
  22. bring your ear plugs for all the shooting across the lake!
  23. Sean, just wonder what the top fish that were caught were?
  24. Well here are the pics of the rainbow, for some reason the quality is terrible, sorry guys. Very fun morning and good to meet tcon and Dustin.
  25. Made the last trip of the year today with Mike(FLXTroutman). Also Talked to BlueGhost and shared some info on the water. fish seem to be 40-65 down over 80 fow. I know blueghost fished deeper with lots of bait and caught fish, but we stayed with what we saw on the graph. We caught 7, broke 2 off, missed 3 on the top line, and lost 3 at the back of the boat. Mostly all 15-20" lakers. Did manage a nice 7-8lbr. All fish caught were on sd/fly. We put a blue rapala in and with in minutes had a fish on and lost. This happens 3 times, I think Mike just wanted to long release the fish for some reason. Also were marking a ton of bait and hugh marks on the northeast side, where of our fish were caught. All in all a good finally trip and had a good time trading trips with Mike.
