Canandaigua Lake ramp re open deadline
cdgn troller replied to wsr137's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
from the picture they aren't even putting in more slips, just pissing money away. The ones that were there were probably some of the best on the fingerlakes. The money should of been used to fix up some that are actually in bad shape and close to closing down, like Sampson State Park! -
Thank you guys for your responses. I should of just said that my boat at idle 650 rpms runs around 2.8 sog. I want to keep the same rpm but run slower,2.0-2.4. I can this be achieved by going to a 17p prop. I understand about the over rev, I build and drag race high performance engines, and at wot its running 45 mph at 4000 rpms. Anybody think this will work? [ Post made via Android ]

I've got a 18' lund with 140 merc i/o. Its has 14 1/2" dia 19p prop. I was thinking of getting a lower pitch prop to slow down trolling, it runs on a calm day 2.8-3.2 sog and on a choppy day down to 2.0 -2.6. I have a trolling plate but then I have to run around 1150 rpms to get 2.2 -2.4. I'm thinking about getting a 14 1/2" 17p. Does anybody know how much this will slow me down, or should I get a 15p. I know I'll lose my top end, but trolling speed and fuel economy is much more important!

You guys are right...I didn't read far enough! [ Post made via Android ]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the change is only for the tribs and not the lakes. Should of included the lakes and also should of allowed 5 lakers.

I'm looking for a used 14 1/2" X 17p, aluminum, 3 blade, mercruiser prop that is in good shape.

ANYONE WANNA SEE A "SENECA CHALLENGE"?
cdgn troller replied to lakebound88's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Two things...Why don't you just have someone check live wells and coolers before the start instead of putting someone on the boat, and second do the same at another launch towards the north with someone checking live wells and coolers and just have the final weigh in in Watkins. Its a long way for some of to drive to watkins and then back up the lake towards Geneva...just a thought. -
Kevin, So sorry to hear that. I hope he makes a full recovery.

I've been driving by Pelican Point Marina a lot and he's been parking a truck in the launch. I don't think he really wants any outside people launching. 585-554-5400, Terry is the Manager. Mike is right, if he lets you launch it's only from 8am-6pm now. I hope he lets me get my boat out! I make the trip to the south end sometimes, it's only a 15 minute boat ride! I('ll let ya know what I've been doing for em! BTW Nice fish guys!

Pete, good to see you get out on your own and get a few! [ Post made via Android ]

My grandparents live on the east side near Pelican point marina and i've been keeping my boat there. Skach1, I think you www on cayuga but my speed was between 2.2-2.6. And like I said in my last post, you might as well sleep in because they are not starting to turn on till later in the morning. [ Post made via Android ]

It was Bowtastic on Canandaigua again today! Except today I stayed on the north end. It was just me and my almost 3 year daughter today and we got to the boat around 8:30. Started just south of German Bros from 60 fow to 150. marked a few bait pods but nothing like what we found at the spot I've marked on the GPS from about a month ago, north end middle of the lake and about 1/4 mile stretch. It was loaded with fish stacked up on the bottom, bait everywhere and active bows around the 50-60 mark. The first past was greeted by a triple with 2 bows and a laker on the bottom. The 2 riggers parked at 62 and 54 released almost at the exact same time. As I set the hook and take up slack from the instant aerial show, the dipsey set at 250 starts ripping drag! BTW my daughter is to little to reel in fish so she kindly moves to the front of the boat from from some instruction from dad! The first bow put up a great fight with a couple short runs,I get it in, no weight, quick 29 1/2" measurement and released! Second fish in, released at side of boat, about a 20" bow and then 33 1/4" laker measured and released! No pics this trip but the bows had some great red color through the middle all the way to their heads. I almost quit right then but decided to reset and make a trip back through. this time picked another beautiful 30+ inch bow who put up a great fight. turned around and picked up a 17" bow, pulled lines and headed in. All bows we on the riggers with gold or copper spoons and laker on sd/carmel dophin fly. The next couple weeks are only going to get better! If you wanted to jig the bottom is covered with fish right now!.

left the dock at 6 and started fishing the north end with 1 5 pound rainbow and a 2lb laker. both fish taken on green paddle/green fly out 210 on the dipsey in 120fow. lots of bait and fish but just could not get them to go. made the run all the way to Whiskey point, no takers, crossed the lake, headed north and finally found some active fish. 205 dipsey with sd/carmel dolphin fly takes off with a 6 lb rainbow and shortly after the rigger parked at 56 takes off with a 7lb rainbow on a cooper colored stinger. warked the spot on the gps turned around and picked up a 3lb smallmouth on the rigger parked at 56 over 190 fow! also picked 1 more 5 lb bow on the 205 dipsey with sd/carmel dolphin fly. had to quit at 12:30 to get father in for wedding . great day to be on the water!

Good job Chuck. I was next to you on your south troll but trying to fight fish and handle those waves were just too much so cross and headed north. I ended up with 1 bow around 3lbs, brown about 12" and 2 nice fish that were dropped behind the boat. I tried deep and shallow. Best luck was in 85 Fow 44 down. I tried to call you on the radio, not sure if you have one? [ Post made via Android ]

We also fished the Red Cross Derby on Seneca. We started on the West side just north of Kashong Pt. and found the fish from the week before. We fished from 60 - 70 fow on Sat and ended up with 27 fish and lost at least 10. Mixed bag of small LL and decent lakers. All lakers were in the 6-8lb with 1 over 9lb that we thought wouldn't stay on the board so we released him. 95% of fish came on 1 dipsy rod with white sd/white fly set at 180 all weekend. Sat evening between 6:30 and 7:30 was one I'll never forget we caught 8 fish in an hour and lost 4. All 8 fish were 8 something on the scale and the 4 we lost were real heavy fish! All but 2 on the hot dipsey, as soon as it was set, it fired! Sunday was just a little different with the fish about 30' deeper and not as aggresive as the day before. We quit around 10:15 with 5 lakers and 6 small LL's, half of the landlocks we did not even know we had on, we were checking lines ever 15 minutes and they were there. The landlocks were on the 180 dipsey and the 45' rigger with nbk's. Fleas were not bad at all but the weeds were bad, most of them were under the water so you couldn't even see them coming. We had a good time, just wished there was a weigh in station closer to Sampson, or Geneva.
