I was a able to get a short morning hunt in before going to work. I sat till about 8:00 and then still hunted my way back out. I got with 40 yards of him when he jumped up. The old winchester 12ga did the job and we trailed him about 70 yards. This is my best buck ever. I might have a hard time topping this one but you never know.He is already at the taxidermist and should have him back at the end of April.

Still havent seen that recipe yet. I would like to find a good way to prepare them. I have had a few different ones but they were not very good. Yours sounds tasty though.

The point I was trying to make is the morons that come up here are even scarier carrying rifles. This is how bad it is Last year a big city "hotshot pulls in the local gas station bragging about his "buck" he killed which in fact was somebodys goat that got loose.A few years before that a farmer lost a jersey cow , and another lost a donkey to these highly educated people. Cmon do those type of poeple need to be carrying rifles. I know they are as safe as the person carrying them. The othert issue is the size of the rifle. The 300 and 7mm and such just seem a little big to be shooting 150-200lb whitetails. As far as the landowners permission that is a great idea because there are a few in this area that said no way, not here. Everyone has opinons and that is mine. I was trying to get the general consensus on the issue. I was not trying to ruffle any ones feathers. Hunt Safe and have fun.

Top producing set-ups for the Fingerlakes
Justin replied to HPORT's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Seneca Marine in Watkins glen carries the Alpena Diamonds. Yellow w/ orange dots is a killer with the lakers. The rainbow one works good on LL and bows. Oh yeah what was that green, green and more green I am headed out in the Am with the fam. Been a while since I have been on the water with our Ohio trip and then an accident on the farm. Father-in-law tried to be a bullfighter and lost. He is doing better and can handle the milkin alone again so I am free Radio will be on 68. Hope to see youy out there. -
Congrats start working on all the tethers. anything loose goes over the side

calling all you old timers on Seneca lake

No pole although I have heard of people running it that way. I attach 6- 10 ft of mono 20-30# test at the end of the copper. Every once in awhile cut alittle off when it gets nicked up. That is the reason for the heavy line as it beats the crap out of it. Yes it is a fail safe set up for lakers. I run twin minnows and pfleuger spoons the ones with fixede hook although they are a little tougher to feel tappin the bottom. Most of my fish hit after i pull it and let it back. Good luck with it. -
We finally got out yesterday and and a great time. Slow but steady pick of steelies and one skipper king. Stayed between 24 and 26 line. Never had a mature hit. Got a late start around 9:00. Went 4/7 with a few nice size steelies. We saw the pack way out and debated but didnt have time as my partner had to leave for work. Hot spoon was 42nd, glowfrog, and green spinny/green fly(not sure of actual name). We will be back in two weeks after we get back from ohio.Any one get any mature kings in that area? Not sure if we were doing something wrong to not pick any up or not. Down speed 2.1 -2.4 tried to keep temp in the range but was tough. Not going to complain as it was a great first trip.

Theres a lady that sells bait just past the Byrne Dairyon 5 and 20. Not sure what minnows she has but has quite a few tanks outside. We picked up some sawbellies from her on the fourth weekend very nice lady.

No I had some red rubber bands that worked good. also ran free sliders. North of launch seemed better. Lots of marks south but seemed more active north. Good luck. We are headed for the Oak on Sun am.

First off I would like to thank everyone for the Informative posts as they helped a GREAT deal. Sean your tips worked perfectly. Launched out of Severne around 4:30pm Headed south and it took about ten minutes and we were into them in 100 - 130 fow. W had quite a few LL Riggers parked at 80 with fixed cheater at 70. Green spinny with green miragefly( I think to many names to remember )Turned around headed north of the launch stayed deeper 280-300 fow. Got into the lakers mostly on the wires out 280 or so and with white crush spinny and some homemade flies (thanks 711skwerls)Got kinda crazy with the doubles and even a triple. Picked up a LL 360 out on the wires during that circus, not really sure how deep that one was.Overall we put 15 fish in the boat ,I think lost count with quite afew others lost.Relaesed a few as well, to catch another time. Took some home for the grill and smoker. Very few fish on the spoons today was mostly a spinny/fly night. Family and freinds had a great time out there to night. Weeds were managable and minimal fleas We will be back out again soon. Thanks again for the info. Hey Erabbit whats your boat look like not sure if that was you along side us tonite or not. Sure was a nice rig.

Any body ever deal with Screwy Louie's. We stopped in there and he seemed to have a pretty good selection.

I was just wondering what everyone thinks about them here in the finger lakes. I have heard they approved them for Schuyler county this year. there is a few of us around that disapprove of them but I think we are out numbered. My opinion is we have been using bows, shotguns and muzzleloaders for years why the change now. I guess I will find the biggest tree in my woods and hide the first morning when the neighbors start blazing . In all seriousness in the artea we hunt the range in the woods doesnt justify rifles. Just what I think but what do I know.

Shooter bucks this 2009 season!!! UPDATED PICTURES 8-24-09
Justin replied to RUNNIN REBEL's topic in Big / Small Game
The last two dont look very old 2 1/2 , 3 maybe any one else have an opinion? If so imagine what he will be in another year or two. If that is possible in your area.I have to admit they would be hard to pass up and probablly wouldnt. Best of luck get him with the stick and string!! Down here in the finger lakes, you let a young buck go he crosses property lines and thats the end of the line. I am all for putting meat in the freezer but the buck to doe ratio is way off. Let the little ones go and bag an old doe.Just my two cents. Great looking pics though. Just curious what food plot seed are you using? -
Nice job. What colors were hot today. We have had a hard time getting the riggers to go. Most of our fish have been coming in on the wires with white spinny/green fly. Hope to get out Fri or Sat. We will try a little deeper as well. Keep up the good work.
