  1. I read about some of the pen projects and not enough help to maintain and mostly not enough people signing up to feed the fish. The biggest problem is that not everyone lives just up the street, if you know what I mean. I was typing to Tim Bromond and suggested an automatic fish feeder like the feeders used for deer and he said that the folks at the Olcott Pen Rearing Project were looking into something like that. Have any of the other pen project people thought about this? Yea, I know that people still need to fill the barrels but it would cut down on manpower needed. $$ to buy them COULD come from proceeds from all the tournys that take place across the lake,no?
  2. Try replacing the Popit valves too
  3. Anyone know of the guy, I think his name is Clint? Anyone have work done by him?
  4. Its a Stinger with tape added later. Sometimes the tackle shop owners get creative. I have a few without the tape. I believe the name is Purple Thunder or Puss N Boots or Kevorkian I could be wrong, that name Purple Thunder could be from NK, I have that one too fish307 has a bunch of them, check em out
  5. If you like it, get a survey done
  6. I just had a surveyor look at a PY and I asked him if wet stringers was a common thing with all boats and he quickly said NO. Do any of you Baha owners know if the weep holes are sealed or is there raw wood on the arch, like PY did? Maybe a good thing to do (if you're not present for the survey) is ask the suveyor for pictures of the moisture meter at work. I never thought to ask but this guy sent me a bunch of pictures showing the meter PEGGED. Plus he called me several times during the survey. I highly recommend Williams Marine Survey out of Baltimoe MD
  7. That's right, get an independant surveyor
  8. A boat can look purdy on the outside but a survey could save thousands in unseen damage. Every screw that goes into a boat, will allow water to penitrate. And a simple moisture meter will detect this. If the brackets on a swim plateform are underwater, you can bet that there is water damage. If the raw wood on weep holes in stringers & bulkheads are not sealed (Penn Yan) you will find water damage. That raw wood is like a sponge. Sorry, just telling it like it is. If you had new stringers or bulkheads put in your boat, make sure you seal the wood around the weepholes. If you put any screw into your boat, use some kind of sealant to prevent water from entering. Average survey costs $20 per foot but well worth it. At the very least, buy a $400 moisture meter
  9. BE SURE YOU GET A SURVEY DONE ON ANY BOAT THAT YOU'D LIKE TO PURCHASE!
  10. Keep an eye on ebay and also might be good to check pawn shops in the area
  11. I currently own a PY and have had it since 1992. Time is on my side as there are no problems with it. Am I partial? Yes but my second choice WOULD be a Baha. You guys are going to love this! It’s my wife that wants another boat! Am I going to say NO? Heel no! The most important thing is to keep her happy, right?
  12. Thanks, I saw that on TJ's site. Smaller than I'm looking for
  13. Yea... 2 miles is pretty far away. I think its the closest cg to Wrights Landing
  14. Nice bunch of fish. Thanks for sharing
  15. Just a note to all PY owners: If your strings are NICE AND DRY, be sure to seal the wood around the weep holes with something. I used silicone. You could go as far as fiberglassing them. A simple thhing like this could save you thousands in replacement or repairs of the stringers. I can't believe Penn Yan took that shortcut. They must have known what would happen
  16. Looking for a Penn Yan Predator, Prowler or Rampage, 1996 or newer, inboard, one that hasn't been chartered, a trailer would be great. Looking to purchase in the NY, PA area. Fresh water use prefer. If you don't know of one, don't knock yourself out looking for one as I've been looking for 2 years, nearly every day online, even took a ride around Sodus 2 weeks ago. I look at TJ"s Penn Yan Boats site every day. I look at Boat Trader, Craigslist, Boats.com etc. I have about 20 sites I go to. Between my wife & I, we have the internet pretty much covered. But if you have a friend, neighbor, a marina or saw one along the road, that's what I cannot see. I looked at the Rampage in MD I know about the 1990 Predator in Cape Vincent I know about the 1992 Prowler in Sodus I know about the 1996 Predator in Henderson and they're asking to much $$ I also saw the 1990 Penn Yan prowler 295 - $17500 (Barcelona harbor. Thanks Mark When I find one, there will be a 1989 Penn Yan 257 Aggressor for sale, maintained by Mike's Marina in Mexico Thank you ALL for looking Greg
  17. If you want a 10' lean-to, they usually go 10' to the outside. I'm going to have a 12' built on the other side of mine.
  18. If there were never any kings in LO, I'd have money in the bank. I wouldn't have a Penn Yan, a 40' camper and a whole bunch of salmon gear. However, I would have some kind of boat because I love fishing. Oh, and I wouldn't be in the market for a newer Pen Yan. Still looking for a Predator. Anyone got one?
  19. I keep about two 20lb Salmon every year and don't eat anything else out of LO. So I figure it cost me about $125.00 per pound per year for the last 22 years. That's not including gas for the truck or boat. I figure I've spent well over $110,000.00, over the past 22 years to have the sun shine upon my face, while soaking a lure on Great Lake Ontario. And guess what? MY WIFE & I HAVE LOVED EVERY FREAKING MINUTE OF IT!
  20. Try Pioneer pole builders They built my 30x54 in 3 days from start to finish and priced right
  21. Yea, we figured it being the 4th weekend was the brightest of ideas. Plus we don't get out too early. However we were on the water by 8:30 today (down state Sullivan county NY) and got a 2 man limit by 11:00. Reef Runners (800 Series Gray Ghost & Orange Peel) were hot 5 out of the 6. The other was on my homemade spoon off a rigger. Good luck to all and thanks for the feedback I LOVE Walleye fishing
