oswego walleye
Patriot replied to Great Lakes Lure Maker's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Hope the catching is better than last year. I watched 3 guys in a drift boat from my window in the hotel. It was windy, cold as heel and they weren't catching a thing. -
I counted at least 40 dead ducks at the lock launch in the Oswego river. Shortage of food because of the hard water is my guess

Trolling for the most part. From what I've read, a regulator is needed with a solar charger, so to not over charge. However I could be wrong about that. So with a 7AH battery, solar charger and regulator it brings the cost to about $100 I'm going to connect to one of the spare batteries for now. I've never use an electric trolling motor, so I don't know what I can expect as far as how far I can troll. All I know is the boat is heavy, a Starcraft 14' Patriot but should be very stable at 72" wide. We'll see

Looking for a new career with flexibility to fish?

Talking about "this economy", I think this is going to be the new norm, More people than jobs. Manufacturers, etc. found out that they can do without and still survive and make as much $$. Just pile the work load onto the people they have. Of course except for our wonderful governmemt with an open checkbook -
Thank you, thats important to know. So that brings it down to 5.5 hours of use. I'm going to have 3 deep-cycle batteries abord, so I now think I'm just going to use one of those. Unless I can find a small solar recharger, that would keep up with the discharge on the 7AH gel cell. I have time so I'm going to look further into it Greg

I wrote to Humminbird and they said my unit would work 6-10 hours on their Gel Cell battery. Its a 7AH battery and my unit will use 615MA. That's around 11 hours 15 minutes if I calculated correctly.
-
Yes, thats the one. So did you need to charge it every time you used it or were you able to use it for a few outtings before it needed to be charged? Thanks Greg

I just bought a Humminbird fishfinder for a small lake boat and was wondering if anyone ever used one of those 12v gel cell batteries for a fishfinder and how long it would last. 7-8 ah and about 8"x4"x3". Instead of draining down an electric trolling motor battery. Not sure if it matters but its a 596 HD DI color

Well Sammy… I believe that you’d make out better if you put an ad in your local newspaper. People here are looking to get OUT of work to go fishing or get away from the wife, probably both. -
I found some lights should work good. I bought 6 of each. About 1 1/4" long 1/2" across. Submersible too! Not sure how I'm going to attach but it should be easy, probably drill a hole in top of the board and put a dab of 2500 in the hole and plunk it in there. If it ever warms up to use them http://www.ebay.com/itm/251338349299?var=550280790016&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_2889wt_993 http://www.ebay.com/itm/251338349299?var=550280789998&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I'd imagine that the cold weather will kill off a lot of bait. Plus they're saying that the summer heat will be just as extreme as the winter cold has been. I hate getting up early just to catch a few fish that I'm only going to throw back. Guess I'll get a helluva tan this summer. What are your thoughts on the subject?

I'm sure, if you pulled the weeds off in the parking area, they wouldn't throw a fit. Their probably talking about the general area of the launch. They should have come up with this one 20 years ago. -

Rio Dam, here I come! -
Anyone icefish around that area? A weird request from my cousins kids. Icefishing is on their bucket list and asked me to take them icefishing. They live in Saratoga Springs but I've never icefished that area. Any tip for Saratogs Lake or nearby waters? Thanks in advance Greg

Well... I guess we don't need to wait for a reply from the BBB. I've read enough to stay away from these people. But I hope BBB does something about this -

Its all about food availability. The same thing goes with deer. If there’s a lot of food, there will be more Does born to make more deer. Less food equals less does more bucks. During the winter, when there's less food and after the bucks have shed their horns, a mother deer will chase bucks and young bucks (especially from another family) away from a food source, so that their young doe can eat and survive. I see it all the time during the winter months -
Dogs on my property is NOT the issue here. Issue is any dog that runs deer. That's what I have an issue with. Those dogs have been roaming my property for a couple of years and I even called them over to give them my dog's treats. But this year they started running deer and other wild animals. Of course I'm not going to shoot the dogs. But if I catch them running deer again, I will call the dog warden. However, I'd be very surprised if they survive the season which starts this Saturday. Hunters around here just don't tolerate dogs or Coyotes running deer. Oh by the way, don't feed your dog raw deer meat. You can take the dog out of the woods but you can't take the woods out of the dog
