  1. Flags would be nice, the biggest problem I have is seeing the other guys boards. Generally give lots of room to all boats, but combat fishing makes that a little hard to do sometimes.
  2. I wouldn't worry too much about extra lines, 4 rods are plenty and free sliders on the riggers gets you 6 baits in the water. Not too complicated and relatively tangle free. We fished 4 rods for a couple of years and boated our share. Chas has good lure selection for you. I believe the green dot spinny and dalmation are good choices for the Oak waters as well. Not sure why no one has brought this up, but June is usually a transition month on Lake O and fishing can be slow. I'd opt for July, fishing is much better, at least for me. 8 lb balls should be ok too. Lake shouldn't be too warm then so fish probably wont be super deep. Plus hand cranking heavier weights will beat you up. Watch the reports section on here. Yankee Troller and a few others post regularly and fish out of the Oak. Their reports are spot on and detailed with what is working and where the fish are. Captains cove and Narby's should also have pretty good current info before your trip. Good luck.
  3. Nice job guys. We helped with the dock lines on the windy day. Looks like you had some fun. The lakers made it interesting for sure. On my boat, it got to a point that nobody would run to a rod if it wasn't screaming drag.
  4. FF / Flasher Fly. Generally a 8 or 10" flasher 18 to 36" leader to a mylar fly body with a couple of beads mixed in.
  5. Anyone know how many places they paid down?
  6. What are your thoughts on running boards waay out in heavy traffic? There were a few running long board lines at the bar this week and it stirred quite a fuss on the radio. Just wondered what the majority think? FYI those white boards are nearly impossible to see in high sun with a little chop, at least for me.
  7. Judging from the results of the Wilson invitational you did better than 1/2 of the boats fishing the tournament. We were just East of you guys and did pretty well until about 8.30 then it slowed to a pick here and there, mostly lakers the rest of the day. Also noticed many tournament boats running east late morning which tells me they were struggling after the AM bite. Something to think about, if your first couple of rods fire before you get all your rods down, then die after you set the other rods, maybe the fish don't like the newest rods in your set. Try taking a couple lines back out. Sometimes less is better, at least on some days for us.
  8. Good luck to all.
  9. Chad, I'd check with Wes if you haven't already. Not sure of his hours right now but there's usually someone outside smoking when I drive by, worth a call anyhow. Almost had to be a local. I don't know too many guys that would have a saw zaw along on a fishing trip. Been watching craigs for another kicker, I'll let you know if anything new pops up in the Pittsburgh area. Good luck, hope you find the moron that took it. Jeff
  10. You might need passports for the cruise. Ours went from Vancouver to Seward. Not sure what your plans are but you might want to check into that as well. Passports take around a month to get. The best money I spent out there was on a float trip for rainbows on the upper Kenai. Simply unbelievable scenery and fishing. Believe we used troutfitters out of coopers landing. All catch and release, but it was awesome. I'd also recommend a whale watching trip if you're there at the right time of year. Chances are you will see them off the cruise ship, but you get close and personal with them on a jet boat. Enjoy and remember to post pics when you get home.
  11. I'd stay away from the party boats simply because they combine all fish towards the total limit for the boat. The one we took had 20 people on board, we limited out in less than an hour, but a few guys never caught a fish. We split the meat equally, but I felt bad for the guys the didn't catch any. Our captain also targeted numbers, not quality fish. We saw a 300lb fish hanging back at the docks, biggest on our boat was just over 30lbs. Be sure to ask questions before booking and make sure you get what you want out of the trip. You'll love Alaska, take plenty of film/flashcards/batteries for your camera!
  12. Thanks Jason, but looking for somewhere to park for the season. State parks limit you to a little under a month at a time.
  13. I was hoping to get some input on campgrounds around Wilson/Olcott for a seasonal site. The one across from Olcott has no seasonal sites left. The only other campground I'm aware of is Daisy Barn. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Jeff
  14. Doesn't look promising for the LOC http://www.forterietimes.ca/2015/04/15/removal-of-ice-boom-delayed
  15. You could run 50 or so yards of 30lb mono and back it with 30lb power pro. That'd give you the extra line needed for long runs. Basically what everyone does with copper or lead cores, works well with mono too.
  16. That's priceless!
  17. for lakeview motel. Wally and Chris are great and they are right between Wilson and the Bar. I'd call them soon, they generally book up for the holidays. Cleanest place I've stayed and plenty of room for your rig. olcottfishing.com also has a section on lodging/contacts. lighthouse motel has kitchenette and 4 small beds in room, only a couple blocks from marina in Olcott. Transient docks available at Newfane marina. also have plenty of room for boats/trailer.
  18. Olcottfishing.com various lodging/etc for olcott/Wilson area Captain cove - Oak Orchard 585-682-3316
  19. LOL. Was wondering who the prankster would be today!
  20. Go west. The Niagra Bar is where you want to be in the spring.
  21. Agree with the original post. Many more positives than negatives with this suggestion.
  22. No, it's wired into the main fuse panel up front. Come to think of it, my vhf wire runs beside it and it's not on all the time. Might only happen when it's on. I'll have to check on that.
