  1. Try turning the motor over a couple of times and re priming. My 1991 195 fish n ski did the same thing but would almost prime itself after I'd turn the motor over. It almost seemed like it would vapor lock or something.
  2. Ray Lewis' last game!!!
  3. You'd want the 30 size convector for 1000 ft wire.
  4. Got mine at the Slippery sinker last year..I think it was a cummings like Tim said. It has a black octagon handle with long extension and big hoop. I like it alot better than the other net that blew out of my boat. As Tim said the octagon handle keeps the pin in line while extending. We didn't have much trouble with hooks sticking in the netting.
  5. Thanks for the ideas guys. Think I'll work on something with a swim noodle or the pipe insulation, have a couple 10ft pieces left from a project last year.
  6. You want the size 1 dipsy, 30lb wire line - a 1000ft spool will fill a size 47 reels perfectly - gives you a more accurate reading with a full spool. Flasher/fly combos are a go to on the wire dipsy....green on green is a good color combo for me but the options are endless. I also like a black or clear dipsy, but again options and opinions are endless. Leads vary by preference also but a 6ft to 10ft lead is common...longer leads make it more difficult to net fish but sometimes draw more strikes. Snubbers are a matter of preference. The Precision trolling book will give you approximate depths or you can run your dipsy out while leaving port and make notes of how much line is out when it bumps the bottom at various depths/speeds, the slower you troll the deeper it will dive with the same amount of line out. Or if you have a large budget you can buy a fishhawk td which will give you depth as well as temperature...others on the site have them and can give you a better idea of how the work. Good luck.
  7. I have a crestliner sabre hard top which leaks into the cuddy cabin. We sealed all around the outside of the windshield/windows with silicon caulking last year but it still leaks just above the side windows. Any ideas on how to stop the leaks or where it might be coming in? The headliner is out of the boat but I still cant seem to pinpoint the leak. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jeff
  8. I'm looking for ideas on how to store spoons under my hard top. We've been using plano boxes but would like something a little more open. I've seen spoons hanging in several boats around the docks but never paid much attention to what they were hanging on. Also thinking about dipsy's / flashers and flies. Maybe something with clear pockets. Just trying to make the best of the off season and thinking of ways to free up space in the boat. Thanks, Jeff
  9. If in fact the main reason for the change is to "protect" the species, wouldn't it make sense to eliminate the laker division in the summer derby when there's less chance for survival of released fish? We never have too much trouble with fish going back down in the spring or fall. If guys are trying to win the money they're gonna release alot more than they keep. As far as the same guys winning over and over, good for them. I've met a couple of these guys and they know there stuff and are willing to help others do the same.
  10. Ken, Good chance your stuff will show up for sale on craigslist or ebay soon...dont know if there are any pawn shops in Erie but you might want to check that out too. You picked a good place to post, alot of us are in the same boat and watch for stuff for sale all the time. I doubt whoever stole your stuff is dumb enough to try and sell to local bait shops but might wanna check with them too. Hope you catch the guy(s)....there's too much of this crap going on lately, a couple broken legs might send a strong message.
  11. I fished a 19.5 ft sea nymph on Lake Erie and Lake Ontario for the past couple years and never really felt un safe, a couple times uncomfortable (5 -6 footers). Pick your days and watch the weather reports and you'll do fine in a 19ft. Bought a bigger boat just for the cuddy and added space for more people, but wish I still had the 19.5, it was a great all around boat that fished any body of water I wanted to fish and was very easy on fuel.
  12. Don't know if still looking but saw this on Pittsburgh Craigslist. http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/boa/3273835101.html
  13. Just curious.
  14. Pretty sure the tournament rig has #2 owner trebles. Owners seem to run a little bigger than other brands.
  15. So sorry for your loss. I lost my lab to old age at 16 a month ago...got her when she was 5 weeks old..still feeling the pain. There's nothing that compares to a dogs companionship. Come home from a bad day at work and there they are always happy to see you. Remebering all the good times will get you through it. When my lab was about 6 months old she liked to chew on things so I kept her in a kennel while at work, she got into the routine of going into the box while I was in the shower, sometimes I'd forget to shut the door. One Friday evening I came home from the worst day ever at work and there's Toby laying in the middle of the floor with what looked like a dozen mice in front of her. A closer look revealed every plug off of every appliance in my house....stereo, tv, vcr, 3 lights, air conditioner, clock, cordless phone, answering machine....chewed off with 2 to 3 inches of cord left. Anger was soon overcome with laughter as she ran over and layed her head on my lap...as to say sorry. Took a while to repair everything but at least she left me a little cord to work with and a life long memory...still trying to figure out how she didn't get electricuted. Hang in there and give your extra attention to Dozer.
  16. Looking to cure some salmon eggs to be used as singles. Picked up some cure last week and followed directions to a T but it leaves the eggs pretty watery, guessing more for egg sacks. Any one have a good single egg cure solution? This is my 1st attempt to cure eggs on my own so any input would be great. Thanks, Jeff
  17. Also agree with Yankee...ran one all last week without a knock off...took many kings on normal size flies.
  18. Thanks guys, turn signals would be awesome. I already do most of the things mentioned and try to avoid traffic, but sometimes it's un avoidable. Hopefully this post helps some others out as well. Combat trolling is frustrating and can ruin a relaxing fishing trip....with all the hand signals and all. I try to remember we are all out to have fun, right! And hey, when a guy flips me off I think he's telling me I'm number 1. See you on the water. Jeff
  19. I'd put it in a slip somewhere and don't even let her know you kept it. Kill 2 birds with the same stone.
  20. What are the basic do's and dont's for trolling in a crowd? I try to avoid traffic but with the derby and staging fish it's kind going to get crowded and it seems like every approaching boat wants to play chicken with me. If I start turning right they turn right, when I turn left they turn left. Is there a unspoken rule on which way to turn? I know enough to troll with the flow but what about oncoming boats? Should I stay to the right as with car traffic? Thanks, Jeff
  21. Sounds like dipsy's are set to run out the wrong side. Set your dipsy on L to run out the right side if facing the rear of your boat. Almost always tangle with my riggers if we get the dipsy set on the wrong side of the boat. Same speeds as Richards work well for us.
  22. Neo, They were cabelas brand that broke. Actually still have the swivel but the snap broke on all 3. I think they were the cross locks.
  23. Thanks for all the input. Pretty much left everything on the dash for now but added the fuse block and tightened up all the wiring. Probably going to mount ff and probe display on hard top over the winter...a little too much involved for in season work. I would like to be able to see those things from the rear of the boat, especially the probe temp. Seems like every time I'm setting lines someone is standing in front of my display. Also like to see where my riggers actually stop. Counters don't seem to be very accurate on occasion. Set up ff and probe display just left (port) of center as I also sit watching lines, gps just in front of drivers seat and radio I left where it was on dash with mic on hard top.
  24. I have 3 broken cablelas deluxe swivels laying on my dash from the spring derby as a reminder not to use them. Dreamweavers for me. Haven't had one of them fail yet.
  25. Thanks Tom, thats what I was looking for but couldn't find.
