The niagara river joins together lake erie and a smaller lake called ontario. The fish pile into it to spawn in the fall. The best way to fish the river is by charter. People who go swimming in the niagara tend not to live. There are three sets of stairs to reach the water. You can also fish from the new york state power authority fishing platform. Artpark in lewiston is an easy access point. If your walkin, get a back pack and take water. I walked out of devils hole with five kings on a stick over my sholder when i was 19 years old. I took my 19 year old son last week. I thought he was gonna have to carry me. I fish with a true die hard on the boat. He wont walk down anymore. For all the chatter about showing your spots. Bull. The river will never get huge crowds. Look around at burt, oak. Most of those folks wouldnt go into the gorge more than once. The walk back out is tough. The fishing is unreal. All winter the charters out of lewiston are catching steele , brown , and lakers. With a musky, gar, northern, mixed in for fun. All of them have picked up a sturgion or two in there travels. Captain vince leaves the comfort of his lake boat and sports a lund all winter. Try fishtheniagara.com. These guys can fish.

Weather and water temps made fishing tough. Offshore is a ****. Lots of water out there. The guides in the lower niagara are taking limits before 9 am. The fish are piled on top of each other. They have been out there, just not where we think they should be.

Here today gone tomorrow. Thatsaid, they have been where they are every year. They have been two weeks late all year( round about ). That would have them running in two weeks.IMO. Fishing has been awesome! Kings Rule!!!

We had a fall about two years ago where all of our outings where below a twenty five percent land rate. We bit the bullet over the winter and put all new owners hooks on everything. It made a huge difference. Every comment above is true. Being consistant is the answer. Improve and test one item at a time. In ten years, you might have it down. Good luck

The boat comes first. A fuel fund is a great start. We won 12,600 in a spring loc. My fishin buddy of twenty years missed the only trip in that time, that day. It was never an issue. Three mounts and a new fish hawk were first. Three days of ocean fishing in florida came next. Downrigger, tackle and fuel rounded things out. We all know the expence involved, feed the beast. Even an out right grand prize is not worth screwin your buddies. I had a big role in landing that fish and i never asked for a cash share. I still enjoy retelling the story. I also love the fish hawk. My buddy who wasnt there just got a bigger boat this year. We will be fishing in grand style for the next twenty years and any $$ will go to help float the boat. Dont forget the taxes. Thats another story.

You can go out ten time and not be that productive. Thats a great catch. -
Its official the west end is a wasteland this year. The lake has flipped. I cant remember a worse day or year of fishing. Surface temp 58. Down 40-100',40 degrees. We picked up two skippers for the day. We marked nothing. I cant believe its august. It felt like the second week in march. Like i put in to early. Im gonna have to go to church next sunday. I dont know where they are. We sure did lose a year of fishin.I have never seen like this.

Its the switch. We use four oldies and have to replace one a year. They are easy to come by online.

So tv news in buffalo is reporting that all of eighteen mile creek has been designated a federal superfund site. Do not eat the fish or touch the soil. Thats burt dam. Looks like it might be a crowded season at the oak. This is bad news.

Kings--what should be done
baitrigger replied to Capt Vince Pierleoni's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Sometimes the answer is right in front of your nose. History repeats it self over and over. I think you boys are on to something. This is a can of worms, im sure. Why slot limits on lakers. Do we need them. I read elsewhere they are putting in more lakers. Where is this going? -

If its in your buget. A lead and copper set up 300' each. You can rotate a chute rod in your spread. When they start to produce, you can research big boards over the winter. Perfect timing for spring. If i had to choose. 300' copper for fall. Pike ball is a post from a few months ago. Great ideas on how to run the chute. Good Luck -
