zeroing in on salmon early
baitrigger replied to Hooked on Kings's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Girlfriend called while i was seting a rigger last summer. I stopped rigger at ten feet. King hit and the phone hit the floor. We spent the rest of the day catching thirty feet and up. Thats the best part of lake O. There are no rules. There are not two days alike. Spend ten hours and its like three differant days. -
Add two weeks for ice to clear the lower river in years like this.

Average fish per day?
baitrigger replied to hawkeye625's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Some very honest posts. Go pro caught four on our boat last season. We fished ollcott to the bar every weekend. Had fifty plus two times. 742 fish for the year. We dont count shakers. We do fish all day. Spring was great. Summer and fall were hit and miss. 30 lbs was our big king. Wish i was sitting on the boat suffering through a slow day right now. Bad day fishing is still the best day. -
Im a weekend guy and have no sponsors. I have had some productive NKs over the years. I bought a couple( 2) warrior spoons five years ago and what a differance. The owner is very easy to get along with. Always less that a week and he calls in person. Hot glows are the best.

What's up with prices at Gander Mountain?
baitrigger replied to Trout Bum's topic in Open Lake Discussion
This topic is blowing my mind. I cant find anything I need at gander or dicks. I am lucky enough to travel for work, so i get to cabelas often. I would have to drive over four states to buy the things we use every trip. On line is the only way to find quality gear for lake O. -

anyone running core?
baitrigger replied to fathobbit0074's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Blacks inline releases on the boards. Run copper on one side, lead on the other. When one starts hittin, switch the other side and run with whats hot. Riggers producing at 40/50 feet. Its a lead day. Hits comin deep, copper. Spoons are hot, run them on the longline. Docks/flies...same. three to five extra fish every time out. Play with it. There is no right or wrong. -

10 color run every weekend since april. Spin/fly or spoons. We pick up 2 to 5 extra fish every trip. Its just like american express. -
Anthony, Larry and I are in ft lauderdale blowing all of Anthonys winnings from the spring LOC derby. I have never been salt water fishing. We flew in at 2pm and took care of our car, room. We made a beeline for the docks as soon as our buissness was taken care of. I watched six boats come in in less than a half an hour. All six had very similar hauls. They each had five to eight fish. Dolphins made up the majority of everyones catch. The dolphins have to be just 20 inches to keep(thats a five pound fish at best). These are forty plus foot boats. They charge nine hundred dollars for an eight hour tour. I haven't even been on the boat yet, and anyone who knows me would tell you I am an optimist. I am depressed. I got to walk around the boat we'll be on tomorrow and those big penn reels I could never afford to buy for salmon fishing on lake o were paired with the roughest lookin poles you have ever seen. Most had a forty pound mono on them. Some had wire about twice the diameter of our downrigger cable. I sure hope we get ahold of somthing a little better than the five or ten pounders I saw today. I know there are some readers on here who travel and fish. Is this all there is to ocean fishing? Do you have to go alot further south to find reel game fishing? My opinion may very well change after I get to fish for the full eight hour tour. It is hot down here. I love western new york. I was getting a little bored of our fishing program after the emotional rollercoaster that the was our spring LOC. It never ceases to amaze me where inspiration comes from. I would like nothing more than to be leaving out of Lewiston heading for the bar in the morning.

I cant see the pic either, try again. -
Thanks again for all of the positive comments. Winning the LOC is the highlight of twenty years of fishing. Team lockdown has already booked a saltwater trip for four to catch some tarpon and grouper. The fishhawk has to be installed on the boats this week. Thank You to the guys who put together a great awards dinner we had a great time. Anthony Mang...Grand prize winner
