  2. I was up to the Lake a couple of weeks ago and needless to say the wind kept me and my small boat off of the lake except for a short morning and an afternoon. I ended up fishing way short of the fish as I found out later that the fish were way deep. Late afternoon contact with Captain Tom Burke confirmed the fact. He caught a few at 135 and 160 over 200 feet of water on an east troll. I was headed the wrong way and pulling Spin Doctors and Flies way short at 100 and 110 based on a report a day or so earlier. Anyway, to the rescue and helping me salvage a rather disappointing week came my good friend Brent Perkins. He showed up early to prepare for a weekend charter and was kind enought to take me out for a few hours of fishing. The lake was once again snotty as h***, but with the help of Perky and Fish NutZ Paul who came along for the ride I managed to land a couple of respectable fish. In kind for all that, I put together a video to help promote my buddy's charter business, BP Adventures. The video was taken from some of his experiences on his boat with a few of his clients. The picture at the end is me with a good king just before I turned 20 shades of green. I must say the boat and it's captain certainly catches fish.   5. I am looking forward to making the trip up, but from most reports I keep hearing its not so great. I guess the only way you'll know is if you go. Good to hear a positive report.

  7. Wooldridge boats are sold in Easton PA. More and more of these are showing up on the Delaware. I know they are quite pricey, but from what I see you get what you pay for. Electronics are a definite plus when it comes to fishing any large body of water. However, they are not a necessity and some do quite well without all the bells and whistles. Any fishfinder that see's bait can be pretty effective. Just like anything else better tools do not make a better craftsman, but they can make life a little easier.   11. Thanks, I am using this as a short term solution for now. I am eventually going to get the Sterns set up.
  12. Put the steering on today for less than $10. I used a 4' piece of flat steel with 3/8" holes. I cut it in half and pinned one end to the kicker and the other to a 3/8" bolt with a wing nut on a hand made bracket to extend the flat steel out from the main motor so the bar doesn't run into it. The flat steel swivels at the wing nut. Hopefully, I'll be taking it out tomorrow to see how it does.

  14. I added two holes at a 1/2 inch from the bottom of he bracket and capped the exposed threads. I am going to put a bar on the front of the motors from threaded hole to threaded hole for steering.

  16. I see what you are saying about that. Just torquing the motor could start that problem. Do you think a diamond pattern for the bolts or two more horizontal? Thanks for the suggestion Meals!

  18. With some great advice from rolmops this is what I came up with for a bracket for my kicker motor. I used a 2X4 and bolted two 5/16 x 4 1/2 lag screws through it and into the wood riser that holds the jet motor on an even keel. I then used two 3/16 steel plates and fastened them all together with five 3/8 x 2 1/2 bolts. I also used a 1/4 x 2 1/2 screw hook in the angle to help tie it all together. All said and done the mount is really solid. Now the test will be to put the heavy 4 stroke 9.9 on it and seeing how it holds up. The motor is listed as 104 # dry wt. I used a hoist with a scale to weigh it and it reads 120#. Hard to imagine some oil and lube weighing 15#. There sure won't be any lifting this thing on and off without the hoist. I'll be adding a removable steering bar once we see how it does, Any suggestions or words of advice before taking it on the water would be appreciated. Thanks again to rolmops for his helping me realize this project and saving me a whole lot of cash..
  19. Here are some pictures of what I have with the kicker mounted to the left extreme of the transom. When I steer the big motor to the left the steering bar runs into the kicker. It is a matter of only an inch or so to where it wouldn't hit. Any thoughts. I need all of the steer rod for the right.turn.
  20. I hear what you are saying Spike. My thoughts were of the possible options out there from different mfg's who offer these brackets. Cadillacs are nice but a Ford will get me to the same place......Or should I say it might.
  21. I went with the Yamaha after consulting with a few well respected mechanics here and locally. As it turned out it was a much better deal after negotiating with the seller. Now it is just a matter of finding the right bracket to mount it..
