  1. Had a great weekend! Went fishing with my dad and a guy from work who is a rookie to trolling. We did pretty good we put 15 or so (lost count) lakers on day one before the storm came through. after the storm the old man went home for the night and the rookie and I went out for a few more hours before dark. We only put one more laker in the boat. Sunday morning we changed our program to get into the browns and bows. We put 2 browns in the boat largest was 3lb 7oz by our scale, mid day we went back out for lakers, ended up with the two browns and six lakers. No money fish, but some quality time spent with the old man and the rookie got to haul some decent lakers in. This was his second time trolling and the first time i took him out we slammed them. He was getting bored with a fish and hour average on Sunday lol. We kept telling him it can get much slower than this. He got to take home a few nice fish for dinner and a hell of a sunburn lol. Great weekend, fishing was decent, we all had a good time.
  2. thanks for the info!
  3. A day of fishing is never a bad day. They look like good healthy fish too. I haven't been out in a few weeks, is the thermocline setting up? Any fleas?
  4. congrats trippleduece! heard you on the radio when you caught it, hell of a fish. I caught the right fish on the wrong day. We boated an 8lb LL on thursday. Tourney weekend was slow, our biggest was just under 6. We had a good time and put many hours in. Besides the tuber doing figure 8's around us and another troller, a sea-do jet boat crossing over our lines 40yrds behind the boat and one guy that kept cutting us off, all was good. but for as many boats that were out there everyone was good about leaving people enough room. We got a month to get our game on for the red cross, so hopefully the fishing will be a little better. congrats to all that placed!
  5. we will be out of Watkins. "Quality Time" channel 68
  6. mower and chowder, it's great you guys placed. It was tough fishing for everyone out there by the sounds of it. Our best was 9lb 1oz by our scale. We had a great time.
  7. We had a similar weekend. Sunday we started at AES trolled up the east side then cut across to the west side at Sheldrake. We ended up with three salmon and 9 lakers sat. and 1 salmon 10 lakers sunday. All the lakers came off the wire on sun. and we were averaging a steady 2 fish an hour up untill noon, then we couldn't find them. Our biggest went 9lb 1oz(by our scale), not quite enough but we had a hell of a good time. Our most exciting part was on sat. when we were heading into a strong head wind with just my dad and myself in the boat, and landed a triple. That was a first for us. Good times anyway.
  8. I stopped by bear's today and he was closed, tried to find barneys but no sign that i could see. Is it that white house with the green shed out back? Or does someone know bear's hours. thanks!
  9. so is the key to winning the derby using big lures or stuffing a 2 pound rainbow in a 10 pound laker? lol
  10. Nice fish Dave. We were out int the trophy that lauched just before you. We went 11 for 13. lost a nice brown at the boat. We caught our first brown before we had all the lines set up, then lost the nice one shortly after. After that we headed north up the west side to get a little break from the wind and put the 6 color off the boards. Caught a LL while setting up with the line in my hand about to clip it on the release. Caught 2 lakers on the wire with a green spin doctor and a home-made fly. Besides that the rest were shakers. We found the warm water again later in the day on the east side up towards the salt plant but not much there. after the first 2 browns all the fish came out of the colder water for some reason. Sounded like a few guys had a good day. We had a good day, but still waiting for a good finger lakes slammer. good luck this season!
  11. Glad the Blue Bubble is back in action. It seems every tourny i fished last year you were at the launch when i was. early bird gets the worm. Good luck this season!
  12. Way to go Eskimo Joe! Your hat is no match for my badger hat though. Bigger hats catch bigger fish. LOL, keep with it kid!
  13. Thanks for the info guys!
  14. My dad got a 20' trophy this summer and wants to know if it will fit under the bridge this fall/winter. Anyone know the clearance with normal water levels?
  15. We got on the water a little after 6 a.m. started south out of meyers and the warm water was gone. We urned north and @ 30' down the temp didn't get above 45 untill we hit T-falls, north of the point we found the warm water. we did a few passes over some baitfish and caught a bow on every pass(4 in the boat, all released) then it shut down. The warm water was moving back in and heading south. There was a down current of almost 2mph at times. This is our first year with a down temp/speed probe, and surface temp/speed. It was almost as fun to watch the temp and down speed over slick lines as it was to catch fish. We are also used to sitting out in the rain on these outings but the canvas top on the old mans trophy was great. we saw a few hardcore guys jigging out there, but in that weather we pretty much had the lake to ourselves. Its hard to belive that 2 days earlier there was 50 degree water down 80' and then it's gone. Thats a lot of water moving. We had a good time, and learned a lot.
  16. thats a dandy laker and landlock, great job!
  17. This site is great for finding the fish. There is almost always a few updates a week, and that should give you an idea of depth speed and presentation. If you read back into previous posts you will see that spin doctor/fly set ups are a must to have on board. These are best run behind dipsey divers, and you will want to invest in good ball bearing swivels to run these. Good ball bearing swivels are a must for everything i run. They are expensive, but i have lost spin doctors and other rigs after the line twised up and broke. Cowbells are another good set up to have. I have run just about everything behind cowbells (peanut, spoon, stickbait) and had luck. They can be hard to hook up on during a "lite bite" due to the extra drag of the cowbells. These rigs work great, but if your on a budget it may take a while to get a good inventory. Also you may want to get used to setting up the downriggers and lines before you run these. I would hate to see someone go out for the first time and get alll the lines tangled up and loose $50 worth of takle. So if I were you I would start out with spoons to get the hang of things. Sutton spoons always get wet when I go out. Sutton 44's do well all year round and 88's run slow and do well in the spring. alpena diamonds are great if you can find them, seneca marine has both last i knew. Stick baits work well in the spring and fall. Fire tiger or perch colors, rainbow trout colors, and silver black do well. as far as everything else goes for color, choose green. Green, green, and more green. Blue, purple, white, and black are good back ups. If you have no way to measure speed, start out by checking the lure action in the water next to the boat before you send it down on the rigger. Also make sure all your lures work at the same speed. A sutton 88 will start to spin around 1.5mph, but your stickbait may not work well untill it get up closer to 1.8mph. Hope this helps a bit. Feel free to ask for more specifics if/when you need them. Tight lines!
  18. That will do. I have a 14ft fiberglass boat that has put many hours on cayuga. Keep an eye on the weather and you'll be fine.
  19. My work is unpredictable, sometimes i have 3-4 days off a week, sometimes i work for 30 days strait. I would like to be a part of this. I'm sure a few people have other commitments too. Maybe a month to month thing? Also I would like to see a scoring system that would make it posssable to catch and release. I keep many fish for the grill, But i think for a summerlong league, we should make it possable for a few of these elder fish to make it back. maybe a photo on an agreed scale or ruler. or a length, girth measurement on photo. just some ideas.
  20. I have had two primer's go bad, and last week my dad was getting his boat ready for it's maiden trip and the same thing. Sometimes the check valve in them starts to go bad and it leaks pressure back into the tank, or sometimes it sucks air through the outside of the primer. it could just be gummed up too. It's a cheap place to start, or if you have another primer that you know works try switching them out. Just something to check out.
