Bought a 10" Victorinox Forschner Cimeter this week and put it right to work on majors. Love it!! Never used one on fish before but this is great. Picked it up at Narby's $44.95.

Good quality fish but not the quanity. Ran riggers 55-75 mostly spoons with free sliders. Colors were 42 second, lemon ice, Nbk, glow frog, and mixed veggies. Wire out 180-220, then 140 -180 on 9/1. hot Spinny were the NBK,Lemon ice, Seneca Special, all folowed by Big weenie flies, lake o glow, yellow snow, pole dancer. The wind and rain brought the fish in shallow the last day. 300 copper was great every day. I learned alot this trip. like always carry a spare for the trailer ( blew the tire out 1 mile from the launch and dragged it up anyway) , always replace a nicked leader when you see it(Lost my lemon ice spinny) Don't let the driver stay up too late(they sleep at the wheel instead) , carry an extra fillet knife on the boat(the wife caught mine with the net and tossed it in the lake) . even had a king teach me how to dance at the back of the boat. I brought a king in on the 300 he came up the port side and went deep and completely under the boat. I ducked the rod under every rig out including both downrigger cables. He surfaced on the starboard side a few minutes later. Then ran back under the starboard dipsy and rigger where he met the net at the back of the boat. Thought I was gonna loose that one:clap: we did 10 kings over 18 lbs the biggest was 27.06 lbs; 2 browns 5-6 lbs; 1 atlantic 4 lbs; 2 steelies 3-7 lbs.; 1 COHO 15 .04 lbs!! Here's where I need your help. We put a 15.04lb COHO in the boat. This is the biggest COHO I've seen. (Only fished ontario for 2 years now) Done alot around 8-9 lbs. Would you consider this a trophy worth mounting. State record is 33 but that was a hybrid. I believe this is pure coho. If its a hybrid I wont mount it. After talking to a few guys I have a better idea what to do. Please post your thoughts!! some kings

Last year there was a crew of machines reworking Catherine creek near Montour Falls. They flattened the creek bed and destroyed some good runs. Now I see they are back at it and it looks like they are filling the edges of the creek banks. Are these guys destroying the creek or do they know something I don't. Please tell me I'm wrong.

I too have been lookin for a good salmon knife. I currently use an 8" fillet knife made by Buck. It's a great knife holds a great edge and has cleaned tons of fish. However after my trip to the oak this year and a couple majors in the box the 8" blade left me wanting more. I'm very familiar with the Victorinox Forschner knives. As strictly a breaking knife the 12" Cimeter should work great. I would suggest using something with a little more flex for carving any bones out. Stick with the plastic handles. the rosewood have a poor finish that does not last and hard to clean. That knife could pull double duty if your a deer hunter too.

Never noticed a creep in mine. I'm not sure where you fish or what you target. On Ontario I generally crankem down tight for kings. even small kings will pop'em. On the fingerlakes where I fish 90% of the time you have an option. Either back em off, or use a rubberband. Twist a #16 rubberband around your line a few times and feed the loop back through itself. use the existing loop in your blacks. this will show any shaker. If it doesn't pop the release it will break the band.

Great job on a solo trip. I love watching those guys (gals) do donuts trying to net a fish Then I remember I do that too. Great laker and 2 salmon. I'd like to take my dog fishing but I'd need a bigger boat. 9 mo old english mastiff pup.

I had similar issue a few weeks ago. after 4 hours of fishing started to smell the smoke. shut everything off turned around to see 10" flames in the battery compartment. pulled the battery out of there to clear it from the gas tank. turns out the power cord to my big jon rigger had gotten pulled on and shorted out in side the switch housing. burned out the breaker and cord. hopefully you got her fixed

I fletch my own and use 2" with a helical. This is meant to stabalize fixed blade heads at high speeds. I shoot muzzy-x4 out of a Diamond iceman at 70lbs. Each setup is different your best bet is to get some and try it. If price is the only reason I wouldn't change. I'll pay a little extra to have confidence in my equipment. Then again my wife shoots the same vanes straight with muzzy 4's with great results at 30yds and less pulling 50 lbs. Little differences don't mean much at close distance, so if your long shots are 25yds youll be good with either setup. I killed a doe at 45 yards last year and practice to 80 with field tips. good luck let us know how it turns out.

ERabbit I must have missed you on the radio. sorry Had it on most of the day. Some times hard to hear with music and laughter. Could of used that weed free spot too. Thanks anyway We enjoy ourselves out there anyway. Its a great stress reliever and brings us together. Fish are just a bonus!

I typically dont watch this part of the site much. I'm still learning on trout and salmon. After talking with a guy at work who catches musky in the river my curiosity has got the best of me. I need to try musky. I live literally 4 min from waneta lake and my boat is setup for trolling. I'm looking for the basic info to help me catch AND release my first Musky. Could be the start of a beautiful relationship. Boat depth? lure depth? leader length? Presentation? lure styles ? common colors? area of the lake? Line type? HOW TO HANDLE AND RELEASE? Any part of the puzzle would help. Thank you in advance. Maybe I could catch a ride with someone?

We were up early but due to a few rain showers and possible T- storms we called it off til around 9:00. Took my dad and wife tried to run 6 rods but after fightin the weeds and fleas dropped back to 4. My dad might go with me twice a year so he is still learning. We had several hits and i think he was yanking it right out of thier mouth. He is a bass fisherman for sure. finished the day around 3:00 with a count of 2/8. 2 quality lakers came in off the dipsys. The wife landed one and I gave the other to my dad with 100 ft left on the counter.

I run a 16ftr mostly on the fingers but it takes it share from ontario also. Dual planer mast on the bow, Used composite lumber for a solid place to mount my 2 elec long arm big jons and 5 rod holders across the back, homemade dipsy rod holders and soon to add two more for planer lines. I can easily run 9 lines if they pass the law. I have one pedestal seat for the wife, I usually sit on the side of the boat to drive and watch lines. if I bring someone else I use a cooler as a bench seat. VHF radio under the dash, music radio in the dash, storage under the dash and in the floor up front, humminbird 597 on the dash. don't have a subtroll yet Most of my stuff is homemade should call it the cheap skate or Wife limited. I'd like a bigger boat but i'll probably have to build that too. Might not look like much but we get her slimed up pretty good.
