ryonybony......you can easily walk out from the third creek area into sawmill cove from Shaker Tract rd. Google up a topo map and see where water drops off into 18fow or so and place rigs (tip ups, jigging or whatever U have) to cover some area from shallower to deeper. That cove closer to the shallower flat near shore always gets pike in spring. More pike may rove along near the deeper areas midwinter, especially near the bottom. Pike can be run into all over the bay in search of food, but they do like slightly more deeper flats than in spring. They r in shallower at early springtime for spawning reasons.....

EYE SPY.....when U came upon those smallies, were U fishing for panfish with lite rigging...? If so, I'll bet that fifth one got off breaking off. Never caught a smallie through the ice, but they've got to be just as good fun as with open water casting for them.....maybe even better!......Chas0218...Aw, c'mon man! Imagine the big ole party U could throw if U tell us all where it is.....!

...Nice. A 4-5lb pickerel (32-34in..?) is nothing to sneeze at. And 20 of those fat sunnies will feed a couple of folks for a couple of days....

Was just wondering what might have been the biggest bass, large or smallie, anyone has caught through the ice. Or is that memorable enough at all. Mine was a 15 inch largemouth on Sodus Bay. No big deal, but HUGE compared to the perch and sunnies coming along. Anyone catch a real hawg, like 5lbs or more? I know Honeoye has some big ones, and so do many other places. Just wondering.....zzzzzzz

R U combining the 3 meats into 1 skillfully blended sausage base, Kevin?.......

Man Kevin.....from your posts, u'all must eat fish everyday and then some! No matter what time of year, not to mention the game. Maybe every six mos. or so go out to a really good surf and turf restaurant to be catered on. Nice haul !!

Chas0218......you're correct sir. Same thing with muscle stress after working out (icing) or those recent quick cold therapies after football hits and other stuff like that. Slows stuff down, preventing inflammation, which does a lot of damage. Warm back up and walk (or swim....) away, none the worse for the wear.....

Lou guys..... Try a whistle signal....or other kind of sound (not overly startling for anyone, but audible). With an agreed upon sound....three long sounds or whatever. Then an agreed upon visual, say a wave of a dark handkerchief or bandana. This could work in a crowd of others to identify one another. Done at a specific time of day, or multiple times to cover for all the different times people get there (or were busy catching fish!), and a virtual relay of LOU'rs meeting on the ice could actually happen...... .....use PMs to define the signals......

That's why perch r favorites for food for all kinds of other fish and game as well......not only do they taste good (apparently taste buds send the same messages in other thing's mouths.... ) , they also have a strong and nutritious life force to contribute to the higher ups on the food chain..........

Sounds like a great opportunity for some entrepreneurial types that could help cut down the populations in Cayuga. They do use them for bait in Cali and they r not as despised as in the northeast.....Note also this is a slightly different species (sea lamprey) here in NY than the species in CA (river and pacific lamprey). Dead, though, probably would not make a difference to the sturgeon....... .....

Plan on an extended (say at least a week....if possible) to be able to enjoy and find stuff to "engage" in. All the tips above r good. Suggest late in the month to get some early color, if the weather (first frosts) occur. Really nice region with those colors!! No fishing? Then set up a time to go back that time of year again as fall is excellent for that. Congratulations !

Too cold for pike trolling?

WTG, msrfnturf! After all of the skunks you've collected, those oven fried babies tasted even better I'll bet! And with the oven baked fish, just make sure if you try it, take it out before you think it might be ready. Although not bad as baked fish jerky, it will be far better undercooked...won't be at all. An oven can dry out the fish quicker than u think. bbolger....keep to the plan and all good powers to you! If you can't fish right now, and don't get freebees from a fishing friend, try store bought ocean perch, or for a more sustainably cool to eat fish, tilapia......But do try for those freebees.... !!

Pike and their brethren will hit in icy water. I've caught them trolling and casting in ice cold Seneca lake with spoons. You know, Daredevils and others, s-l-o-w and on or near the bottom. In bays and flats in not very deep water. Actually marked them with FF, but not sure what they were . Guessed they might be pike, and they were, the first time. Both in late November and late February. Both times the sun was out bright and it was cold out. Fish were marked scattered singly here and there. And if you ice fish, you know they bite through the ice.
