Good show!! Did U have the lake to yourself? From the pic it looks like water conditions were not bad at all.

Hey, that's some beautiful fish...... And that 34lb laker blows my mind! Looks like something from Athabaska or Great Slave or Great Bear...... Maybe 25 to 40 years old that fish.....?

Ivan....Great points !!! -
Zackblain and BSmaster... Right on with the sentiments about the two Rochester reservoirs! Now that they are owned by NYS, I do not think we have to worry about any major changes, as they will remain water sources for the Rochester NY region. Have many personal event memories outside of fishing or hunting at that 2 lake property. And everyone (hopefully) sees and can feel back to the past as to how nice the Finger Lakes and all freshwaters were in days before widespread development.....BTW, I love how this thread has moved from Oak Orchard to the kitchen to the fingers; we see how much our freshwater resources here in NY are soooo valuable....and can't be taken for granted .

I haven't fished Honeoye in over a year, and I haven't seen or smelled it since lower water levels, which have affected lakes all over this year. I have never smelled the lake water, well, smelling bad. We have caught 'eyes there at dusk and after dark close to shore, and they tasted great! And that was as close as May of 2011...

. Hahahahahhhilarious !!

Hmmm.... Some stockings from one lake instead put into another (close by). How inefficient could that be? Anybody from or next to DEC fisheries reading this?

Follow-Up to Rochester Capt. Meeting
panfisher replied to Finders Keepers's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Finders Keepers....Good show old bean (to be said in a British accent)! I'm in! Except I'm not a charter captain. I've been a passionate fisherman AND a passionate weather observer since a young kid. Also enjoy all kinds of other earth sciences. Would love nothing more than to be able to contribute reputable observations to others who want to learn more about stuff, so we can ALL benefit one way or another. The more U know about anythings, the better U can deal with them. Also understand about the process of scientific method. And about how research projects must, mostly because of monies and the efficiency needed to work within hard-to-obtain cash and timeframes, must get information with some amount of stability. I have never seen a waterspout or tornado, but a few of my fishing friends have. Folks just want to contribute and be included. Perhaps that is what you've tapped into. But, folks who are taking the idea of charter caps, only, being used for monitoring input as being a negative must try to see why that idea is being floated. Ever hear of "too many cooks in the kitchen"? Again, it is under duress of money and time and results that new research ventures must operate even more efficiently and completely than they might ideally wish...BTW -Thanx for the WCST and ICWR links. They may be willing (if able) to find a way to include input from others in their research. There is something to be said about the benefit of more eyes on the scene, but they would have to be accurate eyes, perhaps as forward "first eyes" who could relay sightings to a captain who could verify if in the area.....with the electronic communications available to all today (cell phones, etc.) this might be efficiently done. -
Shorething.... Pike Hunter... Excellent advice, especially the photo/insurance deal. MCF..."Crazies" is therapeutic in describing these folks. Many people slip to the act of thieving because they cannot help themselves upon seeing a bauble and wanting it. They might steal it directly from you by brute force (as what happened to me and a friend by older kids when 9 years old; older friends of mine came to our rescue and re-secured our equipment for us directly from them!) Of course, many stoop to cowardice and go behind your back. And, unfortunately, some even may "consider" themselves as friends or acquaintances and feel it might be sort of ok to "borrow" stuff from someone they know. In some cases, most sadly, even close family members might rip. It is all bad, whatever the underlying motivation. Keep a tight line on your stuff, and try and remember, it is stuff, and it can be replaced far easier than some other things.

Swingingflies.....Niiiicce! BP Swing....Thanx for the info. And you are right about letting those big girls go....as well as any from Hemlock. It's tough though....to bad money could not buy some hatchery 'eyes to replenish stocks into Hemlock to keep 'em going.....

Aahh.....the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.....where's Tuco (Eli Wallach, the real star of that movie) when you need him.... ? !

* wrong place for politics, sorry folks*....... In the past I've voted both Dem and Rep, and at least one other party. Whoever seems to (hopefully!) have the most intelligent foresight and character, including, most importantly, who stands behind them and how they, too, conduct their business, as possibly an indicator of how they might perform in the White House. Seems that our country has to be very careful about how they do SO MANY THINGS in the coming months and years, and really that has always been the case. However, while things were going pretty well for many in years past, and without so much overly partisan politics coming into play as recently, I don't think a lot of us worried so much about who or what party was in power. The most of America as a whole is what was given to be the overriding decision making energy. Seems that somehow a certain over bearing selfishness and greediness has inserted itself into the political themes these days. Moderates who used to, at least, give lip service to working together for common good has been replaced with a my way or the highway state of mind. That works in monarchies and autocracies and such... but it bodes not well in a democratic society where an almost infinite amount of issues need to be considered in guiding our country into the future, which is here before you know it. That being said, I'll have to side with thromund and Gambler here.....Ray, way to go... !

BP Swing .....Very interesting about 'eyes in Canandaigua! Do you have any sources of info, anecdotal or scientific, on that subject U might share? I used to have a DEC published, well, magazine formatted manual they had published on the subject of all of the work they had done on the effort to improve the walleye fishery throughout the state. I wish I still had it; it was published in the 80's. Perhaps they were native to all of the fingers historically....

Yes, jason, you are fortunate to, at the least, have the property insured. I really hope the crooks get caught....ALL of them....EVERYWHERE! Until then, keep on fishing and don't let their "fix" on your things dampen or depress your spirit and that of your friends and loved ones !!

Still researching info, but, in 1978 a sewer line was run around the lake... Before that the lake was so weed choked in normal years that one could barely paddle a boat, much less run a power boat along that lake....I know because I tried fishing in rental boats (from Cratley's); if you could get a hit from a bass or pickerel, you would skid it unceremoniously across the top of the weeds or just reel in a large mass of weeds. The fishing is FAR better there now. It used to be GREAT for smallies, though that has calmed down somewhat.... It was probably fantastic back in pre-settlement days....but I digress. Always room for improvement!

Wow. Yet another theft posting.. ..And this time, not a case of leaving something at the car in plain sight unattended or in the open. Well, hope these thieves are idiots with dispersing or employing what they stole from U so they will be caught. And soon. They probably have done this more than once and will definitely do it again, as they seem somewhat accomplished. Yes, theft is not a "city" thing. It's a human and natural thing. Please guys, you can always lose something, but U should keep your good fishing gear out of sight, locked in the trunk or at (inside) your occupied home....and insured....!

devoknevo......Hhaaannh? Wwhaat?.... Dude. 'Splain yoself ! Sound like Eastwood at the RNC !

Looks can always be deceiving, but IT LOOKS like a great piece of fishing equipment! Be ready for the big buck money pit, but, I'll bet it holds up real well for U. What, about 23-24 ft? Perfect for either great lake AND the fingers or Chautauqua or Champlain or anywhere else U want to drag it/slip it. Make sure you include a bit of it in all of the pics U post of those fish... !
-
Niiice! It's always good to get into 'em after a few hours next to the skunk....! Good report.

Yes, some pretty big walleyes do come out of Hemlock. There are a couple of postings in the "LOU archives", with pics. Also some in the New York Outdoors News....And it does seem they are caught incidentally to trolling for salmonids.
-
Interesting.... Except for kypes, just how does one tell a male from a female when caught, without killing/dissecting?
-
Only fished Owasco a couple of times from a dock down the east side.... Caught some smallies and a couple of largemouths, though. Great post! Love the sentiment.

A banjo in Kershaw Park. Sweeeet! And thanx for that insight....

Again... Jigs are THE go-to when the usual stuff does not work....often with a soft body something or other. As for Mepps guy, U can lead a horse to water, but...
