Very nice info on the lamps/walleye fishing issue. It is strange though... When fishing the shallows at the north end of Honeoye after dark right by the little launch area, I have caught 'eyes by the fountain in front of the house, which has (or had) colored lights under the surface... One fish was a nice 5lb. fish. This was not a suddenly moving light from above the water; the lights were stationary, colored, and underwater...plus the "bubbler" action. Sudden moving lights from above possibly triggers a fearful, flight response, rather than a sensitivity to light thing...Don't know; I'll ask the fish about it next time!

How come that perch didn't explode when it hit the bottom of the boat? I've caught 2#rs before, but nothing that fat!!.....Swweeeet! Uh, nice bass, too, btw.....

Yes. And if you look at a map, you'll see that Silver should be a finger lake (pinkie) along with Onandaga, and Onieda the "thumb" of the "hand" of the finger lakes....Great fishing in all of these places!!!

Ssswwweeeeet! Yea, steeliness (bows) get that big in the fingers...even bigger. And that includes the smaller "fingers". Both of those lakes are deep, with spring fed waters and plenty of food. Hemlock has big lots of fish, including both cold and warm water species. Can't wait for the photos.....And 'twas a great story, too!

Seriously...! Never caught perch with colorations like those specimens.... If anybody else has caught crazy looking perch ( or for that matter, any other species that is highly unusual looking), and has true photos ...not gags... would u please post them? Really interesting....

This is a little wacky for perch and maybe not that helpful, but most of my perch (jumbos: 12-15inches) were caught inadvertently while trying for gamefish. I guess the big guys ARE gamefish-or so they think! Usually 30 to 50 ft down while trolling or jigging. Trolling with any minnow imitator (trolling spoons or stick baits) or jigging with tubes, grub tails, or bucktails. They often are picked up amongst/with schools of smallmouths and even lakers in Seneca. And we have brought in many with these tactics, especially in summer and fall....

Having been in California for several weeks, and being out several times in the past, it may surprise you to know that out here (in the Bay area), largemouth bass are sold live from aquariums in many markets, especially in asian owned and catered to establishments. They fetch a consistent $10.00 a lb. and average about 1/2 to 3lbs for a whole fish!!.....U by them whole and then they trim 'em and clean/fillet them for you. You don't buy salmonids for those high prices, and they are there for you to compare: and certainly not alive!

Old Town Canoes makes a small 12 ft canoe and U can get outrigger side floats so U can stand and cast. They are super light (pick it up with one hand and easily lift it over your head)....

Esox hunter- Whoa! A beautiful Muskie. Beginners luck! See how things are kinda balanced? Some folks might think (as did I) that that was good payback for hurting your back and then gettin out there. I know your feelin' a little better with that day's results. Good work and keep up the "out of the envelope" rehab program!!

You know, casting from shore from off East Lake rd on CANADICE LAKE has done very well for me before for bows and some browns....mostly rainbows. I've heard of a laker or two caught likewise. Little Cleo spoons and Rapalas have worked for me. In another few weeks the smallies will pick up in the same places as the trout move away from shore. Again, as an all-around bait I like Rapalas in silver or gold. The original floaters work but are hard to get distance from shore so Flatraps and Countdowns cast better. Be prepared to replace them in case you snag off as 6lb. test is the ticket.... I'd say sevens and nines or even fives work well. The free permits are no longer required here or at Hemlock as they are now state owned, but still Rochester water supply reservoirs.

Yeah, see these spawners like this every year this time of year there. And they usually are pretty tight lipped.
