Pike are really great table fare. If u don't already know how (and it is easier than some would have u think), learn how to fillet out those bones and you have nice long sweet fleshed thick white fillets. John Kelly was spot on in his comments. I have eaten pike or pickerel as small as 8 inches and up to 9 lbs. Those sizes he says are just right. And they bake in the oven well, as any fish. Great with a little salt and Old Bay type seasoning, If you leave out the butter or olive oil and don't overcook them (unless u like it jerky-like), say 10-15min at 375 to 425, that should satisfy your dryness factor. And any fish taste good smoked. Consigliere's "smoked in butter bath" sounds awesome. I'll have to try it!

st clair angler kills nice fish

Even legally REQUIRED to kill esocidae if caught in some states (trout centric). Like the wolves will kill all my sheep..... Or tigers will kill all my sons. Wherever I have known esocidae live, they always seem to live in good harmony with multiple other species. I know of no place where they have eaten up all the other "favored species" in their home waters. Instead of reviling them people should learn from them how to live in harmony with all in "their waters"..... -

I think the fine was right. And it was more lenient than he was on the musky. I always wonder when I find out about anyone doing really dastardly things to others.....across any lines (human or otherwise). Especially when, as he says, he could have eaten it. His comments don't make a lot of sense when compared to his actions at "the scene". And I'm glad there was video evidence of it. Otherwise, as he so lamely tried to do in his apology, the whole affair would have passed unknown and unverifiable ("they are lying"....."it never happened"...whatever). What... the camera and audio and the scene they captured did not really exist? It's a setup? He could not get out of it. Hopefully he'll never try anything like that again.........And hopefully he is not too old to learn new lessons. With that "apology" I don't know.... -

Largest unofficial walleye ever caught in New York State?
panfisher replied to pro-fish-n-c's topic in Walleye
12lb. 7oz chain pickerel would be an IGFA all tackle worlds record......and the Chemung has plenty of 'eyes in it. Or it used to. Have not fished it since the 90's. They could be readily caught right in downtown Elmira. Interesting that in 75 the big king and other salmonid stuff had not yet gotten on it's feet. The fingers still ruled......10lb. smallies out of the Big O....are U kiddin' me!!!?? NNniiiiiiicce! I would not be surprised if some were still in there like that. And 36 (almost!) lb northern is awesome.... -

Fat 'eyes through the ice......Nice!

Orange belly.......Trolling over and through the ice is a neat trick....What....U have an icebreaker set up for trolling for 'eyes? ..........I guess I'm asking about where one might set up for the 'eyes through the ice in that region. Not specifics as far as a named location, but particulars on what to look for as good areas to target. Or, as I mentioned, are they just all over the place anywhere under the ice. Just roaming around loosely and feeding on bait they happen upon. Which would suggest where to start or target on the ice would be a crapshoot.....all based on pure luck.... .....Which would make your catch really special

Can't help here.....just an inspired comment.....Just looking at maps and sat shots of Canada just BLOWS MY MIND looking at the thousands of fishing opportunities there!!

Orange belly and FishingSkrip27.....Sweet fish from both of U. Are those 'eyes all around the eastern bays or in specific regions....are they roaming all around chasing bait or are they found in predictable areas or structural habitat? Don't have to give up YOUR spots, just some general things in what to look for......From a novice ice 'eye person......
