  1. With deer season over I'm hoping to hit Cayuga when the weather cooperates from now through April but I've never fished it this time of year. Summer and Fall I've typically worked from 120 fow and deeper with spoons on downriggers and flasher/flies on dipseys or a copper down the chute. What adjustments should I make now? I do have some inline boards for shallow fishing but never used. Don't have stickbaits but Christmas is coming so should I have certain styles on my list? Thanks in advance for your input. Greg
  2. Thanks for the report. Looked like calm water out there today. Glad to hear you took advantage of it. I'm hoping to get out there again soon. Just need the weather like today when I've got the time.to get out there.
  3. Sorry to hear about your shoulder. Went through it 5 years ago. All I can say is if your surgeon did a good job you need to embrace the physical therapy with a passion and it will come back for you. Prior to my surgery I couldn't play catch with my kids never mind draw the bow. Been able to do both ever since but I still make time to do the exercises that keep the shoulder sling strong.....I'm not ready to give in to a crossbow anytime soon. 😉
  4. Is there a set date when they drop the water level? I've never paid close attention before but thinking might try to get out there on some nice days this Winter
  5. Previous post is to you Holy Diver!!
  6. Big beautiful buck. Hunting is like the lottery.....you can't win if you don't play. Glad your wife kicked you out of the house for the afternoon.... You owe her a nice night out on the town. 😉
  7. I only kept those 2. Female had dropped her eggs but the male was still loaded with fertilizer. 😉
  8. A busy weekend but finally had a chance to get out on the water this afternoon. Could not convince my daughter to come along so a solo trip. Didn't expect the North wind to create such a chop but it was a nuisance until I was heading back when of course, it died down. Found some Lake trout, (including the bookends in the picture) that were all over the white flasher/fly combo on the chute copper. Couldn't make anything happen with spoons and no active silvers, not even a Skippy. Ended up a nice couple hours on the lake.....way better than the alternative of watching the Giants lose again!!
  9. That's what it's all about, having a great time out there. With your son asleep I guess you had 50 perch to fillet. 😜
  10. Thanks. Hoping for a nice morning to get out this weekend
  11. Very nice group of fish. Hoping to get some lines wet next weekend. What were the fish after, spoons, flies or both?
  12. With the lake trout in prespawn mode now they tend to head to the South end of the lake. I followed that advice last weekend and found some big fish around the power plant. Good luck.
  13. Agreed. Half I dealt with were easy pickings for the gulls. It did make me wonder if the rigger was quiet since a little one or two would be riding along for some time before I would notice a little twitch on the rod tip and check it.
  14. Depending on what you like the smaller lake trout are nice grilled, (add your favorite seasoning), or look back to ERabbit post earlier this Summer where he cuts the fillets into boneless pieces, soaks in milk overnight, then coats in House-autry seafood coating and pan fries in oil. We just finished dinner tonight cooked that way with yesterday's catch along with salt potatoes.....and of course your favorite beverage. ðŸŧ If you have a smoker you have another option..... I've been lucky enough to have some of Chowder's smoked Cayuga lake trout and it's top shelf!!
  15. Put in early at Dean's Cove and enjoyed the sunrise while heading farther South than I've run all Summer. Set up on the West side near the Boy Scout Camp and started trolling North. Trying some new things, dypsy with a dodger and fly along with an inline board towing a stick bait. Third line was a rigger at 60 and added a cheater. Has there been a recent release of landlocks down there? Skippies were a nuisance hitting the rigger constantly for the first half of the 3 hour troll. Could not get anything else going so swapped out the dodger for a mountain dew flasher and a stout Laker grabbed it down about 85 over 120. Put the board away and ran 500 copper down the chute with a white flasher fly combo and could hardly keep it set before another Laker on it. Pretty consistent that as zig zag from 100-200 fow the action tended to be at 140. Kept 2 for an ERabbit style fish fry tomorrow night and let 3 more go, all were easily 7 pounds and up. Never could get anything bigger than a Skippy off the rigger. A beautiful morning on the water but it started to heat up by 10 so called it a day.
  16. That's just great. Every Fall I sit in my tree stand talking to myself and asking Mr Big Buckntoncome walking in to bow range. Now your telling me the key to fishing success is singing "Here fishy fishy"!!
  17. Just when I thought I was getting a little smarter about fishing Cayuga you tell me it's easy. Thanks for bursting my bubble bandrus1. ðŸĪŊ
  18. Ok, I have to open this can of worms... My rigger cables sing between 2.2 and 2.3 so are all cables created equal? ðŸĪŠ
  19. I'm not following about rigger angles.. ..you mean the blowback, so angle of the rigger cable to the water, or angle off the rigger rod's line to the water?
  20. My handicap is no probe so don't know the speed down there. This winter I need to get serious about upgrading the electronics as it's holding back the program a little bit
  21. Back on Cayuga today after having the thrill of my first trip on Ontario Saturday thanks to Chowder. He had been so helpful in getting me started with trolling on Cayuga a few years back and I was honored to be invited to the Big lake and learn a little bit about King fishing. It was memorable in more ways than one...... thanks again Andy!! Started early today to beat the heat and lines in with time to enjoy the sunrise. Ran the East side with the wind at my back from just below Long Point north to Aurora. Found fish on the screen from 130 fow out to over 200 but all quiet until 7:30 in 170 fow when the copper fired with a Laker hitting a Hammer Fly. Hardly reset and a rigger down 80 carrying a copper Mooselook spoon went off followed by the copper 30 seconds later. Both had Lakers attached, the rigger fish was full of fight and hit the scale at 8 lbs but recovered nicely to swim away. After that it slowed down. Tried to swing back through the pod where the double tripped but nothing doing. Picked up 2 more Lakers on the fly down 100 and another one on the spoon at 80. Above 80 showed plenty of fish on the screen but they weren't buying what I was selling today. The largest silver was a half inch longer than the lure it hit! A nice morning, packed it in at 10 as the sun was getting strong. I sure would love to know how some of you are triggering the big silvers to hit. The learning curve continues....
  22. 👍 Looks like you had a nice dinner ready to put on the grill. WTG
  23. You said it early in the post, it can always get worse! At least everyone lived including the boat. My suggestion to help wind down tonight is a nice glass of your favorite beverage. When I have a day like that my go to is a single malt Scotch. Cheers ðŸĨ‚
  24. 😂😂😂
  25. Lately I have put it out 500 and leave it for a while with the assumption that speed changes and turns will mix it up a little. It's been taking fish there so haven't moved it much. Where are you launching from?
