  1. Hello & a late Merry Christmas! We made our annual trip down this year with my son & buddy Tim, whom had never had a chance to experience sea ducks before. We left in the early morning Monday to heavy fog at the launch & being low tide we had to pick our way out the channel on the North side of the Cape for a short mile & a half ride out to an Island we would be setting up on. We set a string of a dozen & a half mix of Eiders & Scoters on one long line...& around the corner we set a dozen Brant as the capt said a fair amount of them had been around. The fog was pretty thick & kept the early morning flight pretty quiet. A few Old Squaw & Whistlers buzzed us...but not much else. About an hour after shooting light our first trio of " Eidahs" committed to the dekes & a hen & nice drake dropped in front of us. After a steady mix of white wing scoters & old Squaw kept the barrels warm but we found our leads on passing shots needed to be a bit more! As the morning wore on more Eiders steadily worked in including a nice pack of about 10 of them ..but having our limits of hens my son had to do some quick thinking to pick a nice Drake out of the group! We were getting ready to call it a morning about 10:30 as the fog had lifted a bit but had turned to a pretty steady rain. As we sat discussing our breakfast plan, we all were caught off guard as a fighter wing of Brant came in from our far left preparing to commit to our line of Dekes....well needless to say they def caught us off guard as my son & Tim emptied their guns ...to only see one bird out of about a dozen drop! Over all another great trip..& fun gunning. Any one looking to get a trip in should give Capt. Jack Renfrew of Coast Line Guide Service a shout! Great guide & a hoot to spend a day on the water with! Well...that wraps up our 2013 waterfowl season... good to those finishing off thiers on the west end! Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  7. Had a chance to get out with some buddies while in between our gun season & blackpowder season. Last week with the cold weather we had a really good push of greenheads & divers move down. My buddy hunted on Sunday in 15mph winds & shot a two man limit of mallards & whistlers. He said the could have done double...just tons of them around. Well wed wasn't quite as good...weather was almost too nice. Clear star lit morning with out a wisp of wind....about 28 degrees:-( we set the mix of dabblers & a long line of divers & waited to see what transpired. Well 10 min after legal light we had a couple pairs of red legs buzz us but no dice. To our surprise the first bird to lock in with landing gear down is none other then a shoveler! My turn to shot & get my first of this species!! As the morning moved on the dabblers slowed & the divers picked up. Not tons of them around but a steady pick of Goldeneyes & Buffies. We ended up with 9 divers & the shoveler....& of course the Honker season is closed & we had two pairs dump into the dekes & get a free pass.....go figure! Over all a beautiful morning. Hopefully a couple more hunts in before the end in a few weeks! Got some sea ducking to get in as well.... standby!! Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  10. Great story... even better outcome! We had a similar one in Ohio 3 yes ago. I was videoing a hunt for my brother, at 6:45 we had a 22" wide 8 point walk under our tree at 6yds( a buck we saw dogging a doe the day before) we were in a narrow hedge row seperating a cut bean field & alfalfa. The buck stopped two steps from the cut beans & my bro let fly! A complete pass through.. we could see the bloody shaft from the tree. The buck took 5 bounds & stopped 70 yds out ....we tensed as we expected him to tip over. 45 agonizing min later ( all on film) we watch him walk off into a brushy grown up pasture. As we get down & inspect the arrow we find flecks of liver... not so good. Being morning we walk out & wait till 2:00 pm to take up the trail. Very..very little blood???.... hhhmmm. We tracked him for approx 15 min ..& to our amazement we bust him out of his bed, we watch him make the slow.. stumbling run 300yds back across the bean field towards a 50 acre uncut corn field ( can you feel the heart sink here) We do the obvious... back out & wait till morning. I don't know who slept less..me or my bro. We wake to a frosty morning , & meet one of my buddies from out there to pick up the track. We marked a large hickory on the field edge where we last saw him...be gain there. We find a couple specks of blood & take up the trail( mind you there was less then half a cup in his bed the day before) My buddy steps a few yards ahead and says he can see a small pond on the edge of the uncut corn....I tell him " head for it!" Well....low & be hold there he lay..only his nose & one beam in the mud. Upon dressing him the body cavity is still warm! This buck lived till the wee hours of the morning! Glad we didn't push him. So the answer to every bodies question... where was the shot? It entered high just nicking the liver, punched through the diaphragm & exited just nicking the lower right lung. A very steep shot....that 2" forward would have doubled him. As said....they have an INCREDIBLE will to survive...& thankfully one that the yotes didn't get to first this time!!" 14. Def always an option...have done that with smaller duck boats. This boat will weigh fair amount... especially with 3-4 hunters. Have read some good about the jet drives & seeing more river boats with them. Just exploring the option Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. Hey guys.. Just bought a 20ft Sylvan center console deep v that's going to be the next waterfowl boat. It has a 90HP Johnson 2 stroke that is seized. Pretty much bought a hull & trailer. Thinking about looking for a good used 80-100 HP 4 stroke for it. I an thinking of buying a jet drive add on for the motor so I can use her in the shallow areas... Any body had any experience with these?? Food for thought.... Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  18. Good luck Rich! Did the deal work out on the new boat? Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. The Elite 7 is coming off her this week, getting winterized & going to storage. The first $13,000 takes it! The "New" Baha will be in the door yard wednesday!
  20. here is a few pics folks. A very solid & rugged boat..will not include the motor.
  21. I have a buddy who has a 21ft Duckwater up for sale. This boat is under 5yrs old, had a 225 hp outboard on it but the engine cooked this summer. He willing to sell the boat & trailer as he wants to down size this fall. Any body that knows Duckwaters know they all custom aluminum construction. This is a center console with a tandem axle aluminum trailer. Great boat for the avid waterfowler, but also make a great walleye boat or Niagara river boat. He is asking $14,000 for the boat & trailer. will post pics as soon as I get them....drop me a pm with any interest
  22. Hey guys, Going to be out quite a bit this fall hitting the tribs, thinking of packing the canoe & shot gun as well. Do the Sandy ponds area get pounded hard in early season??. I know most of our areas on Champlain get hit pretty hard during the early season. Ever any divers on North Sandy later in the season, or do you have to hunt main lake?? Thanks guys...not looking for detailed info...just wondering if its worth dragging the dekes and such along!

  24. Had a bunch of cohos around this morning that were keeping us busy but never really hitting very hard. The usual run in tight early on was dry for us with miss fires. Slid out to 130 for a couple hours ..picked up our first two kings...along with a couple of good rips on dipsie that came unbuttoned 500 ft from the boat. Slid out to 170 for the afternoon & found a pod of active fish..picked up a steelie on a sliding Cheater...down 50 over 100. Then did 4 more kings...two on dipsies & two on riggers off UV sea sickwaddler down 95. Over all ended up 8 for 20.. beautiful day on the water.
