You will be very happy with the upgrade. I pulled heavy gauge wire from my battery selector to a Blue Sea waterproof fuse panel (30 amp fuses) mounted within the transom then heavy gauge wire to the flush mount Cannon plug ins. There was another two fuses left in the panel for runs to my electric planer reels.
Make sure you go heavy enough on the wire gauge, proper voltage is key.
"Mr. Happy" had a very nice Tiara for sale here in your age range. I want it. No have his asking price, but awesome rig lying Wilson Harbor. Do a search.
My AmiSh Outfitters AZAK boards run low and pull hard due to the synthetic material's almost neutral buoyancy so weights are not necessary. If I ran wood I'd have to figure an equal division of weigh, on both boards in the middle of the center of gravity when under tow would provide good submergence. Maybe a bit more on the inside would create more drag?
Cisco electric reels off the hard top hand rails, reel controls at hand height, Big Jon rail clamp pulleys off the front of the hardtop, 500lb. Spectra, Amish Outfitters Azak synthetic boards, use cheap micro carabiners to attach releases.
I do well on chrome sharks fished in a tight spread, particularly in high sun fished deep. If it ain't working I put out the black stealth even deeper. Problem solved. Have both on hand and experiment with your style.
Global Warming? Sure. It's been happening for a long time. The glacial ice cores hold a wealth of information about the wacky weather in the last 40,000 years. We're still technically in an ice age.
I have two Okuma BD-TR-862MH -1 (15-30lb.) in like new condition if you are interested I would sell for a reasonable price. These are the full roller models., triangular fore grip.
The layout, glass thickness and hardtop on the late 80s-early 90s models (mine is a 2160) are hard to beat and prices are great even with a recent re-power. Take a look at 'em too. If you have any Trophy questions I've been upgrading my battle wagon for seven years now so know a thing or two about the hull.
I've ordered twice from the company, each order was slow to arrive but hey it's coming from Canada. I need to order a replacement fish from them better get my order in there maybe they'll get around to making a batch!
Awesome weight if you haven't fished 'em yet. Very happy with mine.
OK the "reel" rig is an '89 Trophy 2160 with new 350 ci block and Merc. 9.9 four stroke remote off the platform, 4 Cannon HS mag 10s, Cisco electric planer reels/B.J. Pulleys off the top, fish hawk x4/840 head, lowrance, garmin, double custom launchers holding 14 rods, Craig and Titelock rod holders.
