  1. I was just thinking about this the other day. Great recipie!! Gonna' whip some up soon, and Sunday this week sounds just about right. Makes my mouth water thinking about it.
  2. After witnessing first hand, how a 7 Rem Mag, absoluetly crumbles a large whitetail, I agree. No need to look for a blood trail whatsoever.
  3. Unique indeed.
  4. Doesn't look like you'll be eating "Deer Hair Stew" now. Good going!! Now break out the muzzlestuffer. We saw 'em hammering the beechnuts last night, out here. Too far, and too late to get close enough, before shooting hrs end. Might have to cheat outta' work, say Wednesday afternoon, when it steps back into the deep freeze again, and see if they are still in there. Again, nice deer!!
  5. Ray, Deer Hair Stew used to be a staple here, many moons ago, along with tag sandwiches. Both needed a ton of salt and pepper in order taste good at all.
  6. We shoot 150 grains of Pyrodex, behind a 270 grain Platinum CVA Powerbelt, in all our muzzleloaders. They do not get away, and most fall on the spot.
  7. Alcohol and firearms are NOT a mixture whatsoever. I don't care how much of a "man" someone thinks they are. That's only a damn fool. Wonder how many guys have missed great deer because of hangovers, or made it to the woods late, only to bump deer to someone else?? Or caused their hunting party to have a poor day of it, because of assnine shananigans the night before?? I've witnessed it's negative affects over the years. Booze and hunting?? Not for me.
  8. How well does it do, in 4 footers??
  9. What did the judge say??
  10. The farm we lease has a 0 tolerance for violators, and the perpertators have been dealt with quickly, and firmly. When he has found tree stands on his land, the chain saw is used to drop that tree so it destroys the stand, and is left right there, until it is ready to be cut into firewood. When a person is found, he is physically escorted off, and trust me, this farmer, is NOT someone that you want to fool with. We too have his permission to do the same, but don't have to, as his, and his fathers attitude, over the years is known far/wide, and folks give that property a wide berth.
  11. Saw a single doe pop up out of the alders/creek bottom about 7:10 this morning. Kept an eyeball on her but wasn't really focused on her, that much. Saw her look back, a couple of times, and only hoped that she had a boyfriend behind her. She did, aparantly, as about 10 min. later a buck came out on another trail close to her. The horns we VERY evident from the blind, and grabbed my trusty 'ol Shooters Ridge mono-pod, and leveled the Ruger 7 Rem Mag on him. Wound up the Nikon 'till he looked nice and close, and touched it off. As I was pulling the gun from my shoulder, he collapsed. Ranged it at 163 yds.(farthest shot I've ever taken) The whole encounter was about 5-7 seconds. Almost 5" bases, and the main beams carry the same mass almost all the way out. 4 1/2" brows, and the G2's/G3's hover at 6-7", with a 17"spread. Several friends stopped by to take a look, and general thoughts are about 125-130". Love taking deer on Thanksgiving Day, and this was THE largest buck I have ever taken, in the 38 years I have hunted. We had this guy on camera last year, 1 time(smaller), and then he vanished. Thought that he was dead. Saw a velvet pic of a this deer only a couple days ago, from a friends camera on adjacent property, and did not realize it was the same deer we had from the year ealier, until closer examination. Now I'll look at it on the wall, for the rest of my life!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Thanksgiving to all you guys here!!!!!!!!!!
  12. That's a dandy!!
  13. Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Mine came today. Charging them now.
  15. Great story, great deer!! Congrats!!!!!!!!!!
  16. You guys are not gonna' believe this, but he(my 17 yr old son) connected AGAIN, Saturday(10/30) on a nice 8 pt, chasing a doe, and her twins. We found blood, and the arrow, about 45 yds from that stand,(we have 9 stands on this farm) and then he left the open hardwoods, to stand(mucho blood) on a knoll in an alfalfa meadow, and then we lost blood. By then it was too dark, with our lights, so we backed out, and came back at first light Sunday morning, to work our search plan, we had laid out at the breakfast table. If we would've gone another 65 yds across the creek, we would have seen him the night before, but there he was. My son was hooting and hollering like crazy!!!!!!!!! Happy the coyotes didn't have a clue he was there. I had seen him twice in the past week, within 350 yds of where he was killed, and now the farmer has said the he has seen a BIG guy last week, adjacent landowner has a BIG one on camera,(says 130-140 class) and a friend of my son, sent a text to him this morning, saying that while driving by that farm today, he saw a BIG one standing in the open, on the main tractor road, close to where that stand is. I suspect he's come to visit those hot doe down in that bottom, and only hope we(ME) can get a crack at him. We'll keep our fingers crossed!!
  17. Sounds like a great deal!!!
  18. That is a neat product. No cameras in the tree, but that, and if it did get harmed, not the end of the world. I'm gonna' grab a couple of those!! Thanks for the link!!!!!! Scott
  19. Woody's in Port Ontario, has 'em on the wall. Scott
  20. That's him. Didn't know he had a web site, but it only stands to reason. Scott
  21. In case you folks did not know of this hidden treasure, they put up all types of sausage, kielbasa, hot sticks,(good with extra-sharp cheese/crackers) jerky, etc, etc. The retail area is loaded with awards from PA, Ohio, and NY state fairs, and even some international recogintion. They process between 550-750 plus, deer each year. Great guy(Joe Leonard) to do business with, and they process beef and hogs as well.
  22. Have monitored traditional/historical scrapes being freshened, and new occuring now. This has increased over the past 2 weeks, in our area, by quite a bit. Watched a nice 8, following, not bothering, but just folowing 5 doe, Wednesday(20th). Betcha' a decoy could have some worth now. Wish the temps would cool off some, and looks like this coming weekend may have that happen.
  23. If he steals my tags, I'm gonna' tie my socks in a tree upwind of that stand!!!!!
  24. My 17 year old son, killed a 6 pt(first deer with a bow) on Sunday afternoon,(12 yd shot, double lung) when we were hunting togather on a local farm, and then he killed a big dry doe on Monday(23 yds, lungs) as well. Buck was taken from a great stand we have, in between bed/feed in a stand of Beechnut on a runway intersection, doe was with 5 others, in a very secluded cut soybean field. Rage broadheads, from a Parker Wildfire XP, had the buck go only 45 yards or so, and that doe made it about 70 yds. Hope he leaves some in the woods for Dad!!
  25. How can I get more info on this?? Thanks!!
