Anyone use one? I hunt a large farm with 2 small wood lots that are separated by 2 large bean field crops. Wondering if placing a decoy in corner of bean field would help draw deer from.opposite end/wood lot in. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I am finding it harder every day to be "excited" to get up early and go. I continue to do so because the "what if" feeling is worse. I have seen more deer in the first half of the season vs now. It is making it harder to make long sits. I find myself being frustrated/let down if I don't see anything in a couple hours which is not like me at all. I have hunted nearly every morning and every afternoon and it is definitely taking its toll. I continue to tell myself my hard work and time invested will eventually pay off. Good luck to all for the rest of the season looking forward to more stories Sent from my SCH-I545 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Woke up and got dressed and loaded the truck. When I arrived at the the farm I hunt, I went into my pre-hunt ritual gearing up and spraying scent killer. The wind was just right and I ended up getting a face full of scent killer and covered my glasses. I opened the back door of my truck to get a tissue to wipe of my glasses and the alarm goes off. it took my about 20 seconds to get the keys out of my pocket and get it turned off. I finally get things under control and head to my stand. i get all settled in and take a look at my watch to see what time it is and realize I put my watch on upside down. i take off my gloves and reverse my watch and think "jesus what a morning". I hit the estrus can a few times and at 7:05 i see a deer come walking towrds me along the hedge row at 65 yards. I think to myself "after all the issues this morning and things will work out". It turns out to be a nice size doe. i decide im going to fill my tag and get one for the freezer. I stand up grab my bow and get positioned for the shot. She continues to walk SLOWLY my direction behind the trees and finally makes a 90 and is headed my way. I draw back as she is at 15 yards behind some trees about to walk into the open field, When the second Doe 40 yards behind her (i never saw) catches my movement and blows. Game over. I sat there for another 2 hours watching squirrels. One more thing...... after I got home and changed and was heading out I spilled my coffe in the truck. Going to stay home tonight and not push my luck.

Attaching Coated Cable to Cannon Manual
bout time replied to overthelimit's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
One trick I found over the years with the coated cable and cannons is after you strip off 40" or more of the cable is freespool the bare cable on nice and tight ensuring at least 3 or more wraps are in contact with the metal set screw. Then I add a piece of electrical tape or even duct tape over the wraps and set screws to ensure they remain in contact the whole time while spooling up the rest. Thanks for all the help. I talked to John and explained the scenario. He was great to talk to. After 24 hours and a restless night sleep the coyotes have won. It happens I know but still sucks. After following the blood trail today I was highly optimistic. That's the high and low of hunting. The story....it looks like things are heating up. last night I was watching 5 does in the field when out of the corner of my eye I spotted movement across the field. Upon glassing It was a decent size 8. I grunted a couple times to get his attention and he came in on a string. He covered 200 yards in no time. He entered the woods about 50 yards from me and circled behind me to get the wind. He kept coming and hung up behind some brush. I had time to range him and he was at 33 yards. He stomped for about 5 minutes and froze. I grunted softly and he walked my way to about 28 yards. He then winded me but still didn't move. He turned his head away and I drew. It seemed like forever but it was clear he was not coming any closer. And the rest is history. Not the ending I wanted but it's the truth none the less. It's always great calling in deer from long distance it really gets the blood pumping. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Attaching Coated Cable to Cannon Manual
bout time replied to overthelimit's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Stripping the cable to make contact with the set screw is only for autostop. When the opposite terminating end (rigger weight) breaks the surface it opens the circuit telling the auto up feature to turn off (autostop) Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -

One thing I noticed this year is licenses are being printed on different color paper. A friend of mine received his with a background of a hunter and a fisherman on camo paper. I received mine on the standard yellow that was used last year. Is it the stores and dec are using leftover paper that is available to them? It used to be all the same color which made it easy for the DEC to tell from a distance if you were good for that particular year Actually just found this online that explains the new paper doesnt work properly in all the printers: "Asked if the DEC has considered just scrapping new paper, Martens responded, "we haven't crossed that bridge." With last year's and this year's paper being used for licenses, hunters in the field will be sporting two different colors of licenses. Asked if that could present an enforcement issue for DEC environmental conservation officers out in the field, Martens responded: "Not as long as out conservation officers know about it, " he said. "They'll have to adjust to the fact that there's two different colors this year.

I run mags on inside no more than 1.5 setting and standard on outside set on 3 with copper off the boards. Make sure your boards are out quite a ways to avoid tangles. There is no way to avoid a tangle when a fish hits on a turn and you copper is across the spread except for luck Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Started the week fishing out deep. Set lines in 200 and worked out. 500-640 was best. All fish were deep. 110-150 riggers, wire divers out 320-390, 500 and 600 coppers all took fish. Usual paddles and flies in white/green combinations, hot setup was UV 2 face Echip w/chrome purple meat rig taking 70% of all fish. There was a strong NW blow midweek that helped move things in. Thursday I found myself fishing 130-200 range with temps coming up to 80-110 range. Riggers at 88-102, wire divers set at 230-280, coppers of 450 and 500 all taking hits. I ran mostly meat with golden boy cut bait and green double crush Echip whole bait setup being my top 2 producers. Friday was a transition day as things still moved in closer. Found fish in 100-160 this day same setups the day before. Saturday was a tough morning with strong SW blows and 2-4s in the 120-160 range. Struggle to get bites and the ones we did we lost. Sunday started at 9am after the storms rolled through. Worked waters just NE of channel in 120-180 range. Managed 8 bites and 3 of them came together on a 88 and 100 rigger and 600 copper. Landed two of the three All nice matures over 20. Nice steelheads and coho all mixed in. It was an all meat bite with whole bait cut bait and baited flies all working. Monday I had high hopes of copying Sundays bite. We struggled at first to get bit but finally the 450 copper takes off for canada and after a nice battle we netted a nice 24 lb king. Took another couple quick shots on dipsys but no one one. Worked 100-160 range most of the morning. Decided to head out and get out of boat traffic and when we hit 170-200 screen lit up and rods started to move. Took another nice 20 lb plus on 102 rigger pulling purple death board / fly dressed with meat. As we were picking up the 550 copper fires with a nice 9 lb steelhead on the golden boy meat rig. Fish are anywhere from 60-200 FOW plus right now. Hoping to get another good week or two in before I pull my boat. Most fish we caught were still silver telling me best is yet to come Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
