  1. What depth did you work Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  2. You will get a lot of mixed answers. Most guys like 6-8 foot so you can net the fish. Some run longer and you have to "handline" the fish in the net. I personally prefer about 9-11just long enough to be able to net them. I've used longer with not much difference in catch ratio. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  3. Same here Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  4. I had hits on whole meat, cut bait, sushi flies ( wrap a small piece of meat under fly body with brass wire) and reg flies. I will say that I did have more hits with anything carrying meat. All the bigger fish were on meat rigs. My down speed was 2.1 - 2.3 on depth raider. 2.3 seemed to be the best Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  5. You are allowed 3 rods per person but after my fire drill I might rethink it next time - lol Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  6. Fished right out front by myself. Started in 300 and worked out to 450. Best screen was around 340 range. Temps were deep (60.2 down 150 over 300 FOW) ended up taking a rip on a 425 diver / 1 setting pulling double green crush paddle with whole bait - came unbuttoned. Next shot was on a 450 diver / 1.5 setting w/Gator spin Dr + big fin glow. 16lb King. worked that area for a couple more hours and took just one more short hit on a dipsy. Pointed toward port and screen lit up in 240 FOW. As soon as i saw the screen i said theres no way a rod isnt going to fire. I looked at the rods and rigger one fires pulling a green frog paddle green whole bait rig down 170, i grabbed the rod and rigger 2 fires pulling a UV 2 face echip / cut bait rig down 147, so i left one rod in the rod holder and was working both fish the best i could 45 seconds the wire dispy out 405 starts screaming. a triple and im by myself. Alot of Oh Sh#@s later and i was able to bring two to the net. Gotta love late summer/fall salmon fishing.
  7. Mike's Marina did this one. They are located in Mexico Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  8. Below is a pic of my setup. I had a aluminum bracket welded together and it bolts onto my swim platform. I use a EZ-Steer system to steer the kicker. I have all forward controls mounted up front in my cockpit so I can steer main motor or kicker from same place. (I use autopilot). My bracket is a solid bracket so my kicker is power tilt/trim Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  9. I'm hoping they know the fishing "talk" especially when someone says the "the 600 copper just fired" or "I just took a shot on ....." Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  10. i came across this today and thought id pass it along: Oswego County to participate in full-scale international security exercise Posted on August 12, 2014by Contributor BUFFALO, NY – An upcoming exercise on Lake Ontario, scheduled for Thursday and Friday will bring together federal, state, local and Canadian law enforcement partners in a multi-agency exercise designed to prepare for and prevent cross-border terrorist and criminal activity. There are no known threats against the area, but boaters may notice an increased presence of law enforcement assets on the water. The Monroe County Emergency Management Office organized and Department of Homeland Security sponsored the full-scale, multi-jurisdictional exercise. The exercise coordinates a response to a possible waterborne threat in Lake Ontario and will include activities in Buffalo, Niagara, Oswego, and Rochester. “This exercise exemplifies the relationships that have been cultivated among our local, State, Federal, and international partners in an effort to identify and mitigate threats to Monroe County, New York, and our Nation,†said Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks. “It serves as a reminder of the dedication of our law enforcement and first responders to providing a safe environment for our community and to our commitment to ensuring the security of our borders.†This scenario calls for a multi-agency response based on intelligence gathered from U.S. and Canadian officials. “The Great Lakes are a shared bi-national treasure and threats on either side of the border impact both countries,†said Rear Adm. Fred Midgette, commander of the Coast Guard 9th District. “U.S. and Canadian forces work seamlessly to protect life and the environment on the Great Lakes, so bi-national security is an important collaboration, too. The objective of the exercise is to protect the region in collaboration with our Canadian partners, and learn invaluable lessons about defense and how to leverage each other’s efforts for the benefit of all.†A variety of security challenges require collaboration and partnership among the participating governing agencies on both sides of the border. “Not only does this exercise give us an opportunity to collaborate with our state and local partners, it also is a useful opportunity to work alongside the agencies in the Department of Homeland Security,†said Dan Ebert, Deputy of Customs and Border Protection, Sector Buffalo. “The U.S. and Canada are significant trading partners and it’s critical that we can ensure an unimpeded flow of legal goods and commerce across our shared secure border.†Participating agencies include: National Exercise Division, Domestic Nuclear Detection Office DHS, Radiological Assistance Program, Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Coast Guard & CG Auxiliary, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Air and Marine, Office of Border Patrol, Marine Security Operation Centres (Canada), Maritime Security Enforcement Team, 2nd Civil Support Team NY, New York Naval Militia, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Police, New York State Intelligence Center, New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, New York State Police, New York State Park Police, Monroe County, Oswego County Emergency Management Office and Fire Coordinator’s Office, Erie County Public Safety, Niagara County, and NYS Department of Health http://oswegocountytoday.com/oswego-county-to-participate-in-full-scale-international-security-exercise/
  11. I have 4 mounted. I normally will run 3 with extra dispies and coppers out but like Glen said when it's a rigger bite have to have them. Also gives my more choices when fishing is tough and I want to switch from kings to browns to steelies. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  12. I prefer the cannons for coated cables as they have a pulley and the pulley takes most the wear out of the coated cable. The other brands work but actually slide against the cable eventually wearing it down Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  13. ive used gimbal mounts for cannon mag 10's and Trilple rod holders before pulling dipsies. no problems at all. what you want to be sure of is what type of "gimble pin" is in the bottome your flush mount rod holder. Plastic will not hold up

  15. Nick/Theresa Just wanted to say what an absolutely wonderful job you both did again this year. Everything was great and the event ran smooth. As you know this event holds a special place in my heart with my dad being a vet and watching him exchange stories and just hanging with the other vets. Fishing regardless how good or bad it was did not matter everyone I talked to had a great time and can't wait to do it next year. Thanks again for everything you both have done and please know from the bottom of my heart and many more it was truly appreciated Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  17. Here's a pic of dads 10.2 lb steelie from today. We didn't bring it to weigh in but a beautiful fish. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  18. You can also use a standard (blue) 18 gauge wire crimp. I've used terminal ring crimps before and just cut off the ring. The coated outside insulator also acts as a bushing against the blacks release Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  19. Nice to see you back. Glad you guys were able to move some rods. it was an overall tough weekend for most
  20. Fishing was tough for me. You did far better than us. Good job on putting fish in the box Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  21. My boat already had lights under the gunnel and in the cockpit. They were wired to a rocker switch on the dash. They were just the standard light and worked but didn't put off nearly much light as these. So for me I just spliced into the existing wiring that was already there Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  22. Had the opportunity to pick a couple LED light bars relatively cheap. Mounted one under each gunnel and 2 in my cockpit area. The lights are amazing. I wish I did this sooner Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  23. Fished Saturday 530-11am. Started in 120 and worked way out to 300. Nothing to show for it. Came back in to 200 and marked a few hooks but that was it. Ran a mix of spoons / flasher fly / meat. Riggers, dipsys, and 450 copper. SKUNK for the day 7/27 - left the dock at 7 after the storms had passed. Worked my way west from 100 - 250 FOW. Similar program as yesterday spoons, flys, 450, 600 copper and 5 color lead down the chute. Best screen was out front of port bay in 160 FOW. 450 took a shot with no one home. Started to pull the lines one by one with SKUNK number 2 looming for me when the mag dipsy pulling a Carmel dolphin / crazy bi$&ch fly fired. Landed a decent steelhead in 120 FOW. Made a couple more passes and threw the towel in. Some reports of guys doing ok and some having a tough day. That's fishing. Very humbling for me this weekend but there's always next weekend Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
