Owasco lake sure doesn’t want to give up any of those silver bullets to me that’s for sure. I have spent a lot of time trolling Owasco over the last 5 years or so and do very well with the Lake Trout (I imagine everyone does well with these guys) but have only hooked 2 Rainbows. One dumped at the back of the boat and they other was about 15” long. My question for the experts though: the last few trips out we have seen incredible activity between 30-50 foot over 90-120 fow. I assume those are Rainbows traveling the thermocline. For some reason, we cannot get them to bite anything. Tried every spoon imaginable. Countless stick baits, varying speeds, directions, winds....you name it. I am just not sure what I am doing wrong. Last Sunday we ran dipseys deep for the Lakers and ran 2 riggers both with fixed cheaters. It must have looked like a Bass Pro Shops aisle down there and we couldn’t get anything to pop a rigger. Lakers were non stop but I just can’t figure out the Rainbows there. Anyone have any advise on a different approach that might work? The mighty google doesn’t have much information for trolling lake Rainbows. More about stocked ponds and streams than anything. Thanks All! Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Adding another line? Dipsy the way to go?
ryanrobb52 replied to Garyf's topic in Tackle and Techniques
If salmon and trout are your target then I highly recommend a couple wire line Dipsy divers. I know there are plenty of walleye fisherman who use them too but in my opinion they are a must have. Everyone has preferences on brands but I like my Okuma Cold Water reels. Seems to hold up well for us. Congratulations on the new boat and good luck on the water!! Launched at the state launch around 6:30!with overcast skies. My sons and I worked shallow on the north end with 5” KVD pumpkin worms on texas rigs. We landed quite a few smallmouth before the north wind picked up and started pushing us around. The 2 largest ones were 20” and 19” and were puking up huge crayfish as we pulled them in the boat. after picking up my wife and daughter we decided to putt around the west shore and threw out a flatline with a yellow and purple bay ray to see what we could find. Much to our surprise we hooked up with an 18” Walleye. I know they are in there but have never gotten one myself. All in all, a great day on the water!!

Personally I like jigging around 6pm then troll for the last hour or so of light. Seems to work for me. The only thing to really watch out for is the wind because it can go from comfortable to miserable in a hurry because its so shallow and big. Good luck!

Well we gave it hell last night and launched out of Deans. Guy pulling as we launched was giving plenty of tips and said the east shore was smoother and action packed. We zipped across and dropped riggers and dipseys and continued to wash lure after lure with no action. Marked plenty so we changed speeds, direction and color patterns until we finally landed a 20” LL. After nothing else we headed back west and trolled in front of the launch in 40-60 fow. An almost immediate rigger fire with no one home followed by a 5 lb laker for my son. One more fish that got unbuttoned quickly but that was it. Interesting that the east side had a lot more fish marked on the screen but the west side was LOADED with bait. Awesome lake for sure and when my new boat arrives this week I will start putting some time in trying to figure it out. Thank you all for the advice. I appreciate it. Good Morning All! Thinking of hitting Cayuga tonight with my Dad and my oldest son in my Dad’s boat. We typically fish Owasco but wanted to try some new scenery. My question, if we launch out of the state park on the north west side, do we have to travel a ways south to find good trout water? His boat is a shallow 17’ CC so I want to make sure we aren’t wasting our time launching there if it’s a far run to fishing waters. Thank you! Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Finally connected with a nice buck on the new homestead tonight. 30 yard shot with the Matthews and we got one in the freezer. My wife and I bought this land in 2017 and I have seen many good bucks here but haven’t been able to get one in range until now. Not a monster to all but sure is one to me. Hi Kevin. We were out Sunday with similar results. We hit some spots off the point near the Scriba launch and there were fish stacked in 20 fow. Sadly they had lock jaw so we passed after a handful of passes. The couple we did hit were in 8 fow in 42 degree water on bay rats off the boards. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United -
