Never hurts to try a couple different set ups to determine which works best for your needs Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

how much lead core? for short cores Mono is good as you still have plenty of spool capacity. For me mono is also more user friendly/forgiving in setting certain releases. with a good drag 15# mono can handle any king just fine. as the core gets longer reel capacity matters and the drag and weight of the core itself comes into play and Braid becomes the better choice and with a heavier braid you can tighten the drag a touch and get the fish in quicker within reason. if your only chasing walleye than its a different question and its a matter of what holds up to any board release the best at that point brightly colored line is nice as its easier to see for tangles especially if you have different colors on different rods.

I know browns can get finicky about action I don’t spend much time in waters that have both that close to gather but I know when on Seneca when I used to pike fish it I never had a trout or salmon by catch (used small diameter black non coated steel) I don’t winter fish the boat though so by the time I’m out there now the pattern is marginally different and these days it’s lake O which the pike and browns are even less likely to be on the same troll Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I do a lot of similar things the difference I like my leaders for rigger rods to stay around 10 feet that is because I sometimes run spoons tight to the weights especially if running deeper down in the summer on calm days that way boat movement will translate to more action and trigger some bites Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

If I’m only using one dip set a side and I’m going deeper than 50 I like to change the setting to a 2 or even a 1 that way I get a better depth curve and it enough line out that it still gets out away from the boat that way you don’t need the kit until you go real deep Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Temp is nice to pinpoint a break but far and away speed at the ball is the biggest factor the lures have to be running right I've had days where 2 tenths at the ball difference is critical does not take much current to change that the fingers have typically less current and more consistent direction than Ontario but still enough I would rather have a probe and only 10 spoons than hundreds of lures and no probe and that's after fishing many years without one on the first boat Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I use a pair of diawa wilderness for inside dipseys heavy action they work very well and not to clunky they are shorter but I am happy with them Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Looking for kicker steering options
ifishy replied to prayingmantis's topic in Tackle and Techniques
I have the kicker right on my transom as well the panther is the ideal option if you don’t have budget for auto pilot I had to cut mine but that’s it. On the package it tells you to bend if needed and the main motor end clamps to the steering arm so it is highly adjustable to fit as needed it takes about a second to connect and disconnect from inside the boat without having to lean out Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

For the 200 steel it felt great but I see what your saying for something longer would be a lot of stress on the wrist and forearm I don't run anything more than 300 and even that only in derbys after the Seagate for a season I'm trying to upgrade dipseys to saltist first one should show up next week Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

What Lake Ontario fisheries topics do you want to hear about?
ifishy replied to schreckstoff's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Would love to see numbers on natural reproduction if any for browns and bow overall and by area Walleye migration routes Small mouth population structures Any bloaters in the trawls Northern pike status especially as we get seasons in with plan 2014 and all the braddoks bay work Given time I'm sure there is more I'd take the time to read about or if available listen to a lecture or presentation on Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

I like the style with the consoles pushed forward to open up the Bak end for trolling bench seat seem like more storage but budget will be a driving factor for me as well the authority seems similar but has the rear livewell up high seems like a potential Goodwill way to revive fish for release without killing the back in the end price will dictate but I can't find enough reviews so it's always good to here one how is it getting in the boat when it's on the trailer I find that is an often ignored trait Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I used to launch with no docks in the 14 footer but I'm older fatter and stiffer with a 19 footer I'm just not up for it these days nice thing with NY though there are other options just gotta pick one someday I wanna cross big muskie off the bucket list will the launch at waneta handle a 19 foot sea nymph and more importantly will salmon gear work? I have a chance to hit up a store tomarrow so I can get cutters leaders and 1 or 2 lures my brother and I are willing to take a day a year to try even if we end up with no fish we have been talking for years I just don't like to kill that type of fish due to inadequate equipment pike are fun but my personal best is under 40 inches so Just not the same Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
